50 shades of??????

November 11 2013

The question - has 50 shades had an effect on you? Positive or negative? Within certain forums it is looked unfavorably upon due to it not being hardcore enough, yet others say it is too hardcore. It has been dubbed "mummy porn" by some, others have commented "if the book enhances women's real-life sex lives and intimacy, so be it". My opinion is if it frees the mind and liberates sexuality to allow more people to think more widely then it is a good thing, even if horribly written in a way not to my liking. This came up from a discussion between a few of the members from here from the weekend. This is only aimed at the personal effects it has had and not an attack on the book.

All the book seem to do is open the minds of some vanilla housewives who were bored in their say at home 1950's housewife role. The book became topic of conversation at Playgroup morning teas. *YAWNS*I think it made some men wonder why, all of a sudden their wives put a request for the bedroom to be painted red.FOXY

was one of the books chosen in my book club this year. I thought it was OK - not particularly well written and certainly pretty tame. However, it still turned me on.     More interestingly I enjoyed the reactions of the other women in my bookclub who I suspect are all Vanilla and range in age from 20ish through to mid 60's (including my daughter in law and mother) I loved hearing about their surprise and shock that people "do those things!" LMAO......my mum was silent on that....hmmmmm she also kept comparing my dad to Christian Grey and saying he must have had a difficult childhood like my dad   Anything that gets the average woman thinking about and talking about sex has my vote - no matter how poorly written it is!

WHOOOO HOOO I think too it became topic of conversation as some men seemed to be getting a little bit more at home...if you know what I mean. You know "happy wife, happy worker" sort of thing.I think it just boosted a few egos in that department...lolFOXY

My mum passed on the trilogy to me after the Bookclub at the retirement village she is in decided it was no literary masterpiece.(these ladies are in the 70's & 80's)Yes, if the book has opened up men & womens minds to something more than missionary its been a good thing.Personally- growing tired of messages from men thinking they are Christian Grey.

Was so so tame and very poorly written but if it opens up people's mind to other possibilities then that is a good thing. Even better if its a starting point into getting a couple to talk open lye and honesty about what they might want to try. - Posted from rhpmobile

I read it at the beginning of my RHP adventure. I was one of those boring housewives. It pushed enough buttons in me to stop judging myself because I wanted more in the bedroom and my ex was not prepared/able to give it. I got to the point that I couldn't even talk about sex it confused me so much. Now when I get the chance I'll explore most things. And I talk about it a lot. Yeah yeah, it's mummy porn but if it makes people happy, who cares?

I read it. Really struggled with the beginning because I thought it poorly written. Blah! So I skipped a bit and read selectively. Being vanilla and new to all this it was pretty exciting reading for me in some places. x Me

A good friends wife is a deeply religious person and until recently held quite strong feelings on the whole 'sex' thing... think "Every sperm is sacred" from The Meaning of Life. One of her fellow "mums in the school ground" gave her a copy of "50 Shades of..." and my friends wife read it... and all subsequent books. She now has a collection of semi-erotic and insanely-erotic books and even a small collection of adults only magazines. So yes, 50 Shades of whatever did a lot for her and my friend loves it.Personally, I made it about half way through the first book and decided to go back to the somewhat more varied, explicit or imaginative writings from the literotica site.So no, 50 Shades of yawn did not do much for me as I was probably spoilt as a child and it takes a lot more to get my imagination excited now days.SG

Just heard too many negatives about it to bother reading it. I guess I should read it to make up my own mind but it isn't a priority. Ive read some pretty way out there stories that would never ever get into the mainstream so I don't think Im missing much by not reading it.

Quoting 'Amicus75' "Every sperm is sacred" from The Meaning of Life.SG I'm going to be humming that all afternoon now!! I agree, Literotica has some great stuff. I think everyone could probably find something in there to satisfy them (or build a need to seek satisfaction at any rate).

I think 50 Shades could quite possibly beat Twilight for most overrated piece of crap passed off as a book from recent times. I feel sorry for the trees that were destroyed to print copies of that drivel.

Thank you. 50 Shades was my eye opener for I too was one of those boring housewives. Had a year of marriage counselling before I said to hubby I WANT MORE!, thankfully he listened. Started simple, visiting the adult store, buying the goodies ummmmm how do we use them? Reading up online from sites (RHP big help). Now, swinging, playing, having a brilliant time. Hubby getting over his 'issues', me getting flogged. Oh the thoughts are endless and having fun finding more. So thank you 50 shades!

The femme fatale's wishy washiness however really could have been edited completely out and reduced the series to a tidy-ish duo. Did love the scenes from the Red Room though. I much preferred The Original Sinners Series, the characters were more believable and the plots were good. (Fanning self, gimme a Soren anyday!!). Have these books impacted on my outlook to kink, yes definately; more curious now than ever before. And I'm always looking for new additions to the "toolkit" or scenarios I can play out.....- Posted from rhpmobile

50 shades was as boring as....... For very vanilla n easily entertained women. But Mr Grey also portrait that it is ok to belittle women n make them bruised, battered n frightened! There were a few good sex scenes, but nothing exciting...
