You are not shallow at all! You are one of the brightest sparks I know! I kinda wish you had been my English teacher because I would've learnt so much more! I had to abandon my much-loved wardrobe during my migration to Australia. You can't pack an entire life into a suitcase not exceeding 10 kgs in weight. My entire collection of costume jewellery is somehow "lost", my parents have either re-packed or discarded or given away a few pieces of my much-loved clothes (passive expression of anger at my migration, perhaps) and for the first few years in Australia, I was so busy working that I hardly had friends nor a social life here and only bought items on sale. I know I'm getting my mojo back because I'm becoming my vain ol' self again! I love to admire fashion trends and love certain styles and labels but I can only admire them from afar for now. I actually love love love the corporate look! I loved my silk softly-draped V-neck navy blue top from Marks and Spencer, the fitted above-knee tweed skirts again from Marks and Spencer, my chiffon skirts, my fitted dresses, my jackets... All missing / gone. The Japanese-inspired kimono-like top, the Made in France chiffon black flowy above the knee skirt with bold red roses, the plunging neckline satin top that my girlfriends said caused nosebleeds in men (LOL!!!), and the lovely red bareback dress with the high slit from Top Shop that I never dared to wear out of the house... all missing / gone. I'm starting from scratch albeit with restrictive budgetary constraints. If the corporate look becomes out of place at work, there's no choice but to temporarily abandon it and hope that it's just a passing fad. I might assimilate in a parallel manner and sneak in the odd trendy / quirky / eclectic styles or accent pieces / accessories. It depends on the culture of the workplace though. I remember an American Multi-National Corporation I worked in where the CEO's and Directors were usually jacket-free and tie-free and on Fridays, it was jeans and polo shirts super casual day so I followed suit. I have heard snide remarks from female colleagues about other female colleagues re. the way they dress. I think unless it's inappropriate and too revealing or unkempt and sloppy and hence affect the corporate image, there shouldn't be any restrictions. A lot of those comments were probably arising from jealousy because you can see the envy dripping from their eyes. I used to compliment people on dressing well... until I realised that some people would actually take offence to that! So now, I hold my compliments and praises until I suss the person out and am convinced that they will not bite me for paying them a compliment. Strange world we live in. I think if you are trying to get a job in the fashion / creative industries, it might bode one well to dress trendy and dressing conservatively might affect one's job prospects. Dressing appropriately is important too for that interview - never make your interviewers feel under-dressed compared to you so yeah, definitely do not over-dress! LOL!!! I think if you dress in a way that stands out from your potential team, it might affect your chances too. It's getting too competitive and too hard to land that elusive job! Haha! However, nothing is worse than turning up unkempt and sloppy. I think the unfortunate thought association amongst employers would be, if the candidate doesn't even take pride in his/her personal appearance and grooming, what is the likelihood of him/her taking pride in his/her job? Q, my jaw dropped when I saw two young adults turn up for their citizenship ceremony in their jeans and old T-shirts! My guests and I discussed it later and we were appalled that they had shown absolutely no respect towards a country that had been gracious and generous towards them! OK, I'd better log off and focus on my deadlines!

I'd agree with that. Lots of women are wearing dresses to work that could easily be labeled as evening wear. I like to keep work and going out clothes separate. I don't feel sexy if I am in something that I wear most weeks at work - even if others may view me that way.

Sadly I tend to wear jeans/casual clothes to work... I'd love to wear my sexy evening wear but everyone would think I'd totally lost it lol Xx Miss L. Ed

You are definitely not shallow, Quefenta! You are bright, pleasant, non judgemental and beautiful inside and out. We wear uniforms at work where there are a couple of different styles and we can choose from the list to suit our individual body types and shapes. I like that I don't have to think about what I'm going to wear to work, apart from which shoes I'll wear (do I wear heels or flats today?).

I love my dresses, wear them most of the time. I have to wear blokey stuff for work, jeans and tough boots. so I appreciate them all the more now. Id still love to wear dresses to work and Ive asked... to no avail. But I do love reading all the fashion mags, even though I could never afford any of the stuff in them.

I do have a passion for the fashion that suits my style, body shape and personality 😛 which means that I don't follow the fashion trend much and just wear clothes that I feel comfortable in, or clothes that enhances my looks and increases my confidence 😊 All my former jobs did not require uniform wearing, but they were all corporate wear and I hated it, especially wearing shirts and suits lol I am more of a stretchy clothes person and casual to smart casual attire is my style :) To answer your questions Q, I would give away my suits and corporate wear without hesitation if I could go there, and it would not affect my job prospects at all as I could still look professional in my preferred attire :) - Posted from rhpmobile

I'd like my going out clothes to make me feel like I'm going out and not to work. Besides.....somehow I don't think thigh high boots, fishnets and corsets would be appropriate office attire 😉 - Posted from rhpmobile

Vogue over the years have had some of the most classy women ever in their front covers. I'm a dress freak! At one stage I had over 75 dresses in my wardrobe. Ranging from ever day to corporate to sexy evening little numbers. I wear corporate (fully lined) to work. For me, I feel well presented, well groomed and professional. It also makes me feel feminine. As long as I feel comfortable, does not matter to me, what others think. Yes, I have given some of my dress and corporate dresses away. In fact one time my best friend visited, she left with 22 dresses. I'm not a pants kinda woman, so don't think I'll be changing my ways soon. Ms Foxy

In my day to day wear! I've been voted best dressed by students a number of years in a row because apparently I look classy and dress well! Classic business wear during the day, or if hubby has his way, I'll 'power suit' up for him ;) However, when I go out, I love vamping it up! Short skirts or dresses, low cut blouses, backless dresses, anything that shows of flesh. Anything that might set others imagination going :) I've been told I dress well, so I'm going with this for now. Like foxy, I've discovered dresses big time! I own more now than I ever have :) Mary xx

I have already started looking for "THE" dress for Adelaide. Memories of our dress parade just before the Perth M and G! xx

That was fun! I'm sure you'll find something. :) I really love some of the classic numbers Audry Hepburn wears on some of the covers of Vouge/Vanity Fair magazine's. Ms Foxy

A sweet disorder in the dressKindles in clothes a wantonness:A lawn about the shoulders thrownInto a fine distraction:An erring lace, which here and thereEnthrals the crimson stomacher:A cuff neglectful, and therebyRibbands to flow confusedly:A winning wave, deserving note,In the tempestuous petticoat:A careless shoestring, in whose tieI see wild civility:Do more bewitch me than when artIs too precise in every part.
