After life

March 13 2014

My Grandmother passed away yesterday. And while I am experiencing the emotions dealing with loss & grief, I have been putting a lot of thought into the after life. I was raised in a very strict Christian home and have tended to steer clear of those teachings in my adult life (Bible bashed - you could say and far too much hypocrisy for my liking). I don't really know what I believe in. I would hope there is something after this life (better even). My thoughts have wondered from the cloud heaven with people floating around in robes to the more spiritual side where your loved ones can observe you, your actions and scarily enough your thoughts (I apologise if this is the case Grandma). Would like to know what those in the RHP community consider their after life might entail. S x

That's such sad news honey, I hope you are ok. My nana died last year... I'm not sure what I believe... But she was who I was closest to in my family. Now whenever I am in town j visit her grave and sit and tell her everything- just like she's there... I don't know if she does hear it all but I still feel the connection. Xx

But I do believe that people we have lost still live in our hearts and in our minds. My condolences to you and your family.

My mother has a lot to answer for seriously...I was going to say I dont believe in any aftelifer....but I thought about it and I believe there must be some type of energy left....it may disapate with time I dont know if it goes anywhere special maybe in goes into nature? I just do feel that from things I have seen heard and felt that there seems to be a slight connection after people pass. Sorry for your loss.

Hi RHP101 A sad time for you; I was devastated when my Grandmother died a few years ago and I think of her often. I'm sure yours will have her own special place in your heart and memories also. I'm an atheist and don't believe in an after life (though the idea is attractive). To answer your question, if there was a such a thing as an after life, I'd like mine to be a place of harmony, free of 'isms' and where its inhabitants were open minded and welcoming. Oh, and strong hot tea and wine would be good too . Kisses,J(Mrs)

But I have to say I am a big believer in reincarnation.I believe we live more than one life. People that suffer depression and other forms of mental illness are what I call "old souls" they have lived many lives and are tired and near the end and then there are the people that are calm , serene and happy most of the time , I call them "new souls" they have many lives left to live.Don't ask me why I think this , I just enjoy watching people and learning and its something I often think about....maybe its wishful thinking that we get more than one chance....

Sorry to hear of your loss, S. My answer is I don't know. It's a journey we'll all have to take one day, all we can hope for is that we're ready when the moment comes.

I believe that religion is merely a mechanism for control of the masses. Once somebody managed to reach the peak of Mount Olympus and found no Gods there, a more sophisticated construct had to be developed but to my mind, making something impossible to disprove falls a long way short of making it factual. Please be patient with me, I know I'm not being very comforting so far.I do believe that certain clichés have some actual credibility. I believe that if a person's life had real meaning, they shall live on in the memories of those who remain. If you honour the memory of the departed they are never truly gone.On many occasions, I have been asleep and dreaming and one of my own Grandparents will make an appearance. Now I guess I'm kind of lucky in that I've reached the age of fifty and the only people close to me that I've lost is my Grandparents. Anyway, whenever one of them appear, I reached out to them and embrace them. They always ask, 'What's wrong?' and I tell them, 'I'll wake up soon and you'll be gone'. They hug me in return and I feel comforted. When I wake I am sad, even now after all these years, as I miss them but at they same time, I know that the love we had for each other was real. I remember them fondly and my spirits are lifted. While I have no spiritual beliefs, I have thoughts that border upon being theories. Science tells us that matter is never lost. Matter transforms through a circulatory process. I'm left to wonder whether or not life force does the same thing. Perhaps, rather than being lost, life moves on becoming the force that animates something (or someone) else. I am truly sorry for your loss but please believe me, once you have been through your grieving process, you will be grateful simply for the time and love you had and for the memories you keep.

I believe souls continue on and that only the body really dies. Souls live forever, they have no concept of time. I also believe when a body dies, the soul from that body finds another and so a new born is born with that persons soul. That's why sometimes, when we meet people we may say..."WOW! I feel like I have know you all my life??" Maybe that's one way of two souls meeting from former bodies. Strange thinking I know...but I do believe souls do live forever. Well we do look for soul mates, don't we?? Foxy

Sorry for your loss. I think it depends on each individual. Those who have a strong spirit will live on. Those that don't will fade. How we live our life plays a big part. Who we are, how we have lived our lives all contribute to our being. It is that which feeds our spirit.

Our thoughts are with you RHP101,I thought I would share an experience of mine that you might find interesting! When my father died (I was going through one of the worst times of my life) I decided to attend a Psychic fair in town (spur of the moment thing). I don't usually attend such things. After looking around I decided to have my aura photo taken - which came with a Psychic reading. So I received a photograph of myself with a colourful aura which appeared to surround me and took it over to the Psychic. Now I had never met this woman (promise) and there was nobody else in there that knew me or knew about my Dad's passing. Upon viewing the aura she informed me that it revealed the type of person I was - eg. driven, caring .. that sort of thing. But then she said something that made me take notice!!She pointed to a bright white light that sat above my left shoulder amongst the colour. She asked .. has someone close to you passed away recently ... before I could respond she said .. Ohh I have just had a shiver go down my spine (and at that same time so did I). I told her that my Dad had died recently and she went on to explain that loved ones often stay around for a while to watch over you .. this is particularly the case if you are in need as I was at the time. Just an experience of mine and I hope it helps!!By the way I am quite a sceptical person as a rule but this experience made me think. Take Care, Mr Custard

There are different forms and levels/planes/realms of existence. Dying is simply the process of leaving this (our human form) and our soul/spirit goes on to another level/form of existence. I don't think it is merely a coincidence that we continue to feel the presence of certain people that have died. My belief is that we have twin souls, soul mates, soul companions and soul groups that are connected through time and space irrespective of form - including animals. I strongly believe that people and animals come into our lives for a reason (along the lines of lessons to be learnt). I feel that both the nature of and the strength of the soul connection (or lack thereof as the case may be) is directly linked to the impact their life & death has on us should we cross paths in this life. I think that feeling of having already known a perfect stranger is a form of recognition, as is the recognition of an old soul - but the recognition of an old soul is not necessarily linked to our 'soul group' connection. People and animals have the ability to continue to communicate after death ... which confirms ... to me at least ... different levels and or forms of existence.

do we reincarnate from lifetime to lifetime?...... I personally think yes...and no.....we are energy,we are matter...I think that our consciousness continues, how it continues I am not quite sure......I heard a person ask a Tibetan as once if he could tell her who she had been in a past life....he smiled at her and said.....Who are you in this life, are you a good person,a happy person?......because that is who you were in your past life.....RHP,your Grandmother will be with you always, she will live in the hearts and minds of all those who loved her:-) xx Q

I appreciate your opinions on the matter too.My Grandma was a feisty little thing so I'd assume if there's a way she can stick around and be a part of our lives she'd be giving it her all to be there for us. My reference to the dark side is the whole religious debate. Not that RHP101 was leaning the discussion that way, however I'm sure some are swayed by it and I was stating my case. Possibly the delivery, and not the receipt. Generally not into long winded discussions at the keyboard, keep it short and sweet, or maybe short and sour
