All men are...

March 21 2013

I read a lot of comments like: "All men are.." followed by a derisive comment. Could I ask politely for this to happen less often? It's offensive because:* I like to think of myself as an individual. While I may engage in some behaviour that annoys some people, I don't fit into "All men are" because I do try to show respect at least some of the time. All men are not "All men".* If I was to make a derisive comment about women (for example), I would expect to be labelled as a sexist. Rightly so!I realise that at some time you have to make a general statement about a group of people. But it doesn't take much of an effort to consider what I have proposed. I do it. Many thanks.

I think, if you're going about saying "all men are..." that maybe you should go out and look for different men!

Ok, just for you I will change my statements to - MOST men! lolSeriously, I agree with you, it is wrong to catagorise a certain part of the population into a very open ended and derogatary statement. But Sometimes, when words fail at the stupidity of some people, ( not just males ) it does get said.P.S. excuse spelling cos spell check not working

I can't think of any examples, but then again, I generally overlook that sort of stuff.

... the "all or nothing"; the "black or white". There are so many variables in between. And for me personally, it makes life more intetesting :-)

I would say all men do not understand all women all the time while some men understand some women some of the time. Apologies to Abraham Lincoln for mauling that famous quote. Shinas, I breathed a sigh of relief when they failed to fertilise an egg without sperm years ago. Men are still needed for something after all.

We all know the "all men" arguments are a blanket statement. So if YOU know you're different/better/whatever.... why fall into the bullshit trap of complaining about being labelled?!!! You just become part of the labelled mob. So don't complain.... ....LIVE well!!! DG

Best comment i read on here ever. So true. There is always room to learn and think about why such comments are made. But they can never be applied all over. Yes it sucks to hear that cliche....Especially when you are making an effort not to draw such labelling... Good on ya !!!!!

Sunshine..... You missed the point..... Perhaps your ego took it as a personal challenge and made you defensive. It was not, and should not have. The real point was.... Live your life as you choose.... and what others say is of little relevance.... especially when those saying it don't know you. ;-) DG

Quoting 'neptune_drift'   Who actually says that? I can't remember the last time I saw an "All men..." statement on here either. I don't make sweeping statements, but I can say all men are human. Like all women, really.

Actually, I wasn't referring to forum posts specifically and I wouldn't point any examples (even if there were) out as it would just annoy people.
