Allergic to condoms??

March 11 2012

Just read a couples profile where they state they are "allergic to condoms" so you had to be prepared to play without them. How odd. Hadn't heard of a condom allergy before. Is this common? Or maybe an excuse?

Yes there is such a thing as a latex alergy and in fact the alergy is not exclusive to condoms it is anything made of latex so, gloves, balloons, even babies dummies. Reactions vary from mild irritation to full on anaphelactic reaction BUT there are such things as latex free condoms for this reason and they are readily available at the supermaket no special searching required and they are no more expensive than the regular kind so in my opinion it is merley thier preference not to use condoms and they are defending it with the "alergic to condoms" excuse

I have come across another man that is unable to use condoms. He spent a long time trying out all of the different types, latex and nonlatex and yet he still came out in a major rash and was almost unable to walk for days afterwards. I don't think he ever worked out what it is in condoms that he is allergic to. It may be the latex, or the lube, I don't know but it is possible.

I have a mild latex allergy so I use the latex-free condoms. If the could can't be bothered going to their local and finding the latex-free then I'd wonder about their intentions...Cheers,MS

They make condoms as latex free, rubber and latex free and lubricant free. Latex free are easy to obtain, rubber and latex and lube free can sometimes be found at the local pharmacy or online. For those women who suffer burning or irritation when using condoms, it may not be a latex allergy. It could be a mild thrush infection causing the problem.

I'm not allergic to latex and I wouldn't even say I'm allergic to condoms...but I do get a bit of soreness and irritation after a good ole play date (and who would forego the play date because of a little post-fun irritation eh?) But I am allergic to a preservative called thiomersal that causes the same symptoms elsewhere...hmmm, wonder if that is in condoms...?? Regardless, I'd continue to suck it up....not worth taking the risk with my sexual health!Might have to do some research

There are many reasons why one could be allergic to condoms, latex allergy, chemical allergy to the lubricant or spermicide used. I would always take it with a grain of salt if someone told me they were allergic and ask for specific details as to what they are allergic to and what their reaction to it is. If their reaction was only mild, say a slight tingling sensation or a minor rash afterwards then I would still insist on using them. If they had a major reaction that put their health or lives at risk (say anaphylatic shock) then I would only consider playing if they were able to provide a full STI screen showing they were completely safe. I would then decide if the risk was worth it or not but they'd want to be either Miranda Kerr or Orlando Bloom (even better both at once) for me to be persuaded.
