my first thought was she looks like a potato - the pose and relation to the camera angle just turns her into a bit of a lump IMO. I'm not a fan of Schumer so I don't get all the hype about her, and I've seen photos of her that I liked much more - I didn't find this photo either flattering or interesting. The only thing interesting about it is all the writeups gushing over it. I didn't like the picture of Serena Williams either, she has such a powerful and interesting physique, but her pic just looks dull. I know that Leibovitz said she didn't want the subjects to look like they tried - but images captured without the subjects 'trying' to do anything can still have plenty of interest. The only interest to the calendar is that it is different to its predecessors, but as a standalone thing I don't see anything that would interest me in having it. Based on the photos I've seen, I'd bin the Pirelli calendar pretty quick. I wouldn't put the 'normal' calendar up on a workshop wall as I don't really care for nudies plastered all over the place, and this one just doesn't even have the saving grace of interesting photos. It is nice that they did things differently, and I understand their being the positive comment about that aspect - but the resultant photos were nothing special IMO.

Such an amazing role model for women, showing them they can embrace their "tires" (used American spelling intentionally for those grammar nazis out there). I have a few spare tires like she does and I don't know if I'd have the balls to put them out there for the world to see. I've had at least one male on my facebook feed commenting about how "ugly" she looks and "yuck put it away", which to me says more about them than it does about her body. So refreshing to see more and more atypical body shapes being displayed with pride in public forums, I couldn't be prouder of Amy and Annie's work.

Like Kool, I have no idea who Amy is and agree with totally with what SOTL said about how the shoot was done and the end product. I was interested to have a squiz at the calendar as I do like a lot of Annie Leibovitz's work but was quite disappointed in what I saw. That said they are definitely a bunch of inspirational and beautiful women.

Amy Shumer's a hottie - loved the fact that she's in it, particularly after that Star Wars shoot she did in Vanity Fair (her in bed with Artoo and Threepio? Hawt! ) And I totally dug the pic of Serena Williams, too. Powerful and sexy.

I_touch_myself, that's a pretty judgemental thing to say. She's incredibly beautiful, and very sexy. One of the things I love about her is the way that she refuses to except the stereotypical views of what beauty is. A flat stomach does not make you beautiful IMHO. "refuses to accept the stereotypical views of what beauty is" right, and that's what Norm from the "Life Be In It" ads was doing, he was the unfairly vilified representative of a massive growth in people challenging conventional masculine beauty, Norm's TV tray dinner balanced upon his sizeable gut represented a giant F-You to those who would seek to devalue his beauty. But he stood firm (or at least breathing heavily and sweating) in the face of govt campaigns who failed to recognise he had feelings, inner beauty, and an unconventional outer beauty. Is she really taking this bold stance, or is it just that she doesn't look a certain way and without radical diet and surgery she won't look like "Hollywood Starlet 34" so she isn't losing sleep over it (in public, I don't know about in private). If you've seen Schumer photos when dressed up to go out, it looks pretty conventional to me - like any other dolled up normal 34 year old you'd see going out after working at a regular job, just not like the aforementioned miniscule starlet (e.g. Jessica Alba, Rachel Bilson)

The calendar looks pretty ordinary to me. None of the pictures are particularly pleasing or interesting. Just boring. I think Amy looks a little stunned... As am I, with how everyone is trying to out do each other about how much they "like it". I don't get it.

Why is it judgemental? It's a forum and my opinion, or is it only okay to comment here if I agree? I'm only saying what a lot of other people are thinking but won't say it on the forum the way I do. I don't find rolls of fat attractive, if you do, that's fine. And to add to that, society influencing perceived body shape is a crock of shit. I don't lust after muscled bodies because I look at a calendar and think ooh they'd be good to have sex with. It's because I know what turns me on or off the second the clothes come off, can't change that and for the record, heaps of guys who claim to be into larger women or say they don't care about body shape, guess what, what I hear from them is very different, they can't be bothered taking you women on, don't blame them for that, but what people like in the flesh isn't going to change, calendar or no calendar, my opinion pfft - Posted from rhpmobile

Agree with I_touch_myself2 She is pretty, from what I seen of her she comes across like she has an attractive personality, but I think when a person is not on top of there weight it shows lack of commitment/laziness I mean she is a one away from the perfect 3 things a woman can have going for her pretty/great personality/ sexy tight body... like hmmm let's say I_touch_myself2 has ;-p Browny points??

Of course it isn't open forum, and you are allowed to express what you think. It also means, though, that I am allowed to take offence at what you post when I disagree with that. And saying that she needs to hit the gym is certainly judgemental – you are applying your judgements about what is attractive to someone else, and stating that they should change. If you don't find her image attractive that's one thing. But my problem comes when people start to say that people need to change their appearance or behaviours because it doesn't fit in with what other people think or value. I don't find super muscle Lee body is attractive, but I certainly wouldn't be telling them to lay off the dumbbells and steroids, nor would I tell someone who is stick thin that they needed to eat a burger. As for the idea that perceptions of beauty and influence by what we see in the media, that is not a crock of shit, it's supported by numerous exhaustive studies which research the impact of photo shop and idealised images representing beauty in the media. You are entitled to your opinion, but I'm also entitled to call you on it when it's just flat out wrong. - Posted from rhpmobile

I think she looks great, but its each to their own. I have learned that true beauty is inner beauty. I have rolls of fat around my tummy but it doesnt make any difference to how my friends feel about me. The outer body is just a shell, its whats inside that counts. A larger shell with a big heart and kind spirit is more attractive than a small shell with a nasty interior as far as Im concerned xx

I find the body image thing quite interesting. We all have our opinions on what is and is not appealing to us and for me I prefer a plus size model any day. I spend quite a bit of time people watching as I am out and about, now I don't know if it is just my town but the young people seem to be quite relaxed, confident and happy in how they are. I am not a parent so it is just my observation, I'd be interested to hear the opinions of those with young children. I feel the media is much bigger into body image than the average human, I long for the day I see a junk food (fast food) eg: Mcdonalds, Hungry Jacks and KFC advert on tv that represents the norm I see in those places. We have been bombarded with imagery for so long now in so many varying formats that Possibly the kids of today have seen through that bullshit. On the shoot itself, as I have said I do not know Amy but looked her up and it seems to me she doesn't mind taking the piss. When I saw her photo I thought it was a very awkward and unflattering pose and if you wanted to show any so called flaws it is not a bad way to sit. So perhaps she was making a statement as the strong and confident woman she is. As for Annie taking the shoot, perhaps perelli going a different way with their calendar chose to use the stardom of Annie's portfolio to add a little boost to it.

I think you may have gotten that response because imo your post suggested her body needs changing, by adding "she could hit the gym". This woman rocks! We recently watched her Trainwreck movie & loved her character in that movie. Beauty comes in all shapes & sizes,we'd take a pretty face & personality over a greyhound body any day. Another actress we like is Rebel Wilson, they may not be slim but they are just happy, bubbly people & its what this society lacks these days! As for the photo a true reflection of the natural person she is no falseness there, superb!

Oh dear all that fuss over what?, I don't know who she is or what she does nor do I care, and I know that if offered the same cash to do that I would jump at the chance even on my worst personal body image day. I also know is that this is a marketing campaign of a very well to do company. In recent years there has been a shift away from men towards women when it comes to the purchasing of cars and related consumables. I would say 10 out of 10 to Perrelli's marketing, not only do they win the hearts of their carefully targeted market, they also get all that free media time, because clearly looks matter. Just depends on what side ot the fence you sit. In reality if looks did not matter then it would not matter, would not be talked about, would not be an issue, or a marketing tool, but it does matter and I can guarantee that every pixel on that calendar has been vetted and approved by many experts with the express purpose to garner the approval of those its targeted at. I find it ironic that people who harp on about airbrushed perfection pandering to desires some in order to sell as being wrong, should lap up an equally choreographed airbrushed normality pandering directly to their desires in order to sell. To me selling via beauty or selling via normality are both as ruthlessly cold and calculated as each other and reflect nothing but the desire to make money.

You're entitled to not find the image attractive, but let's try and avoid gross generalisations shall we? I'm far "curvier" than Amy appears in this photo, and am far from "on top of my weight". For me, and for many people I know, it's not a question of lack of commitment or laziness, but commitment to a different set of ideals than others hold. I enjoy my life. Anyone who has tried to catch up with me for a coffee will know I'm far from lazy, as my life is constantly busy. I'm committed to enjoying my life, spending time with the people I love, and having another piece of cake when I want it. Amy is committed to living her life the way she wants, and I doubt that anyone with her schedule of commitments could be considered lazy. Be attracted to her or not, I couldn't care less - but please, let's not go slamming people as lazy because their body doesn't fit YOUR idea of what is beautiful. Just like I won't slam people with Greek god like bodies as vain, self obsessed meat heads, just because it's not something I personally find attractive. - Posted from rhpmobile

Possibly a bad choice of words - I wasn't referring to her opinion about whether or not the image is attractive, but more about her belief that society's views of beauty aren't influenced by anything. I concede the point that I badly phrased my sentence, however sometimes opinions are incorrect when they are based on facts that are clearly wrong. I do agree that people are entitled to their own opinions - and I'm pretty sure I've been pretty clear about that in many of my posts!

Busy minds are very attractive. To answer the OP....Amy, along with all the other women, are shown as they are. No bells and whistles, just honest pictures - for a change. I fail to see why having a small tum is seen as a sign of inactivity. Have you ever seen a picture of Serena Williams from the front or side? Pretty sure there is a tum hiding there as well. I dare anyone to say she needs to go do some exercise!

Its a bit of a worry that women without being airbrushed and wearing clothes is so groundbreaking and controversial.It is real women showing their real bodies... Airbrushing is so far from reality and we are so accustomed to it that we expect it. Apparently it was Amy Schumers choice to be mostly naked... her own unique dry sense of humor and satire.

She is gorgeous and I wish there were more like her, because she is comfortable in her own skin, and that is a confidence aspect that real and extremely attractive. I don't like her humour, I personally think she pushes too hard to be funny and it misses the mark. But that photo is stunning. I love women being women. Hitting the gym doesn't make them a better person or lover. Too many people have the priorities f***ed up. Go Amy!

Amy is not about physical sex appeal. Lets face it, shes no stereotypical 'supermodel'. But her mind is so far outside of box that i find myself fantasizing about her regularly. That's her big sex appeal. She is such a strong women that i find her to be almost scary as a man, for want of a better descriptor. Scary is ok though. Getting out of the comfort zone is good for everyone now and then. I find strong women with strong views to be so intriguing. They are like a mirror for the soul of humanity.
