Anyone had their profile pic 'pinned'?

March 03 2014

There's a pretty big social networking site called Pinterest. Some of you have no doubt heard of it. They recently released a new feature where their little 'Pin it' badge appears on photos you're looking at on the internet, and you can click it then add the photos to your Pinterest profile in an instant. Not sure what I think of this. Our profile pics can easily be copied anyway, I guess. If all else fails people can screen shot them and create their own images. Still, the idea that someone might be collecting and pinning profile pics from here into such a public place with such a huge world wide following kind of weirds me out. Paranoia much? Any thoughts anyone?

There is probably any number of ways to "leach", steal or otherwise horde (and display) profile pics... like tumblr and now pinterest. If it's on the internet, it's on the internet... in fact, anything digital is probably on the internet even if you didn't know it (those NSA guys must have one hellova spank bank...). I guess I'm lucky I've got a head like a beaten favourite...

I don't do social media. Ok, if you want to include RHP I won't disagree. The only reason I'm on FB is it keeps me in touch with family living overseas. I don't care who sees me but I'm fortunate that it doesn't effect my life

As soon as someone posts a pic of themselves on the Internet , it's there for ever ... So think twice before you post those cock pics & pics of yourself having sex . Your great , great grandchildren could see them , in the year 2060 . GG♒️ - Posted from rhpmobile

If someone really wants to find out anything or everything about you, they can, no matter how one tries to hide their privacy annnnnnnnnd It's not just with photos... I've seen a couple of posts lately in the forums, where several people's privacy has been invaded. As a single woman, paranoid much?? YEP you betch ya!! I have a right to.......... Foxy

It is definitely happening. Your pictures are pinched and profiles created. I think this is why they do the verification system on here but i think that is flawed too. Paint is a great tool but like everythg else it can be used to add detail to a picture that previously wasn't there. It's a case of buyer beware.... The internet has many traps. Hard to know the fakes from the gems. - Posted from rhpmobile

That's why I don't have my body and face in the same photo. Every now and then I will do a reverse image search on my own pics though, just to see if they are on the net somewhere. ;-)

I have found pics that I have seen on profiles and photo sets appear on Tublr. Very easily done as much as I like a good pic.....sharing on a public forum without the persons consent is stealing among other things. - Posted from rhpmobile

Can pics other than your public profile pic be seen in full size when you aren't logged in? I know RHP like it for click bait, but I generally think that for sites like this, it is reasonable to gave profile images only available if logged in - or at the most, only allow a public main profile pic to be viewable in some lower quality/size form when you aren't logged in or when there host referral header isn't from RHP. (If the above were done, you could star/pin photos, but they wouldn't work for non-RHP members)

Quoting 'Drahnee'I have found pics that I have seen on profiles and photo sets appear on Tublr. I have done quite a few searches on pics that looked too professional and have found at least a dozen on Pinterest and Tumblr (as well as many different modelling sites.) Chicken or egg?

Here's food for thaught. A guy told me he'd find out everything about me just from my first name. I laughed, dared him to. (I'd only ever chatted online to him) To my surprise, from my first name and general location: He Facebook friend requested me, sent me a text to my mobile, left me a message on my land line and sent me a pic of my address from google earth. Choking yet on your food or drinks yet ? lmfao. There are plenty of pirate programs out there that invade your privacy from key stroke programs to rip your pics an profiles. The technology of today makes anything possibe. If you beep your car open in the car park, there's a possibility that someone has a copy program to duplicate your "special" code to unlock your car. Hope they take mine, I need a new one.....google it :P

To the photographer, even your program to stop people ripping their pic's off your site is easily done. :(

That can happen easily happen with pics taken on mobiles. Right-click on your pic and select details or properties. It will give you the Google coordinates of where the pic was taken. Blindman wrote a good topic on it. And please don't use the email address you used for Facebook on here, you'll be so easy to find. Let me find that forum.

Quoting 'Macha' To the photographer, even your program to stop people ripping their pic's off your site is easily done. :( Yes, it's just how it goes. I've found my pics used on sites without my permission. The cost and time in chasing that up sometimes isn't worth it. Only thing that helps a little is a watermark but even that can be cropped out
