Asking for it

August 25 2014

Adrienne Truscott is a thinking persons comedian. Check her out. I can't put a link but google her. I saw her show last night at the Darwin Festival and I was totally overjoyed by her approach. How to have fun while making a pertinent statement about an important social issue. That's what I got from seeing her.

Adrienne Truscott's Asking for It. A One-Lady Rape About Comedy Starring Her Pussy and Little Else! . Daring to be blonde, sexy, and wearing nothing from the waist down... in the expectation she will make it to the end of the performance... without being raped. Challenging. and. Confronting. And set to your favourite popular music. Maybe an approach that will spread an important message. (no pun intended). . I found a short skit called "The Wild Ones" when I first started googling Ms Wild lol. I do love my coincidences in names The Mr commented that Adrienne reminded him of Lady Gaga somewhat. . Maybe someone cleverer than me can say if they find a clip of the performance. Not likely while it's still being performed live I suppose...

always open to be educated on new things specially if they are interesting. Will look this up. The hook there was 'thinking person's comedian'. Haha. Will try to find that thinking person to translate the humor for me. Lol. Thanks for sharing. and hope you are well.

Im not sure how I feel about this. Art is art and performance is performance. But controversial can often simply be window dressing for sales. I had a very unpleasant experience when I was a teenager that I still struggle to forget at times. I know the show is probably intended to be empowering, but is it as empowering if the audience is lured because of the controversial element of her nudity?

Because she is challenging the belief that women "ask for it" because of the way they dress. I have worked in women's health and domestic violence services and I do not hesitate to give this show the thumbs up. I think what she does is really clever. I think it is empowering because her words are so powerful, not her semi-nudity. I realise its just my opinion. I would love to hear from others who saw her. I know people I sat with all thought she was brilliant and there were 2 other women and 2 guys. I also spoke to someone else I knew after the show and he was impressed as well even though she'd had a go at one of his favourite comedians.

I've read about her show. Unfortunately acts like that do not come to my town though.

I just watched her in Youtube. Wow. I ownder whether she will be here for the Melb comedy festival. so many comedy acts over 3 weeks! sometime dont know who to watch. I will keep an eye on her. thanks. It is very confronting and very intelligent the way she weaves irony in her set. The semi-nudity is not an issue but more the power of the messages she has put across about women asking for it. Yes, it is empowering and also highlights that just because we dress a certain way that we wish, that it may give some morons the signal for us to be abused and raped. I can see how women who were abused can feel uncomfortable with this as it is powerful. It may also play on the victims' search for a reason why they were raped. I can see why some victims who have not sought help, may blame themselves for bringing it on the rape. But it is never their fault, it is the perpetrator. Always. Highly intelligent and funny comedian. Thinking person's comedian indeed. A trip that lane worth travelling. Thanks.

I believe the comedy show was filmed in Melbourne. It was an SBS feature. A must watch clip. Cheers.

I just found her website as well and have joined her mailing list. I would go and see her again if she was ever in a city where I was.
