Balding/baldness in men

September 25 2015

A query: As someone who is perhaps more than gradually balding/thinning on top, (and going down the line of my father and older brothers), I was wondering how much do men these days value their head of hair? Lately I have been noticing the various billboards around Melbourne promoting hair regrowth centres etc, as well as use-at-home remedies. Have any men used these kind of services or products? My (anecdotal only) information is that anti-hair loss treatments (while they may work) are quite expensive and the process of balding will gradually return at some point after the treatment is stopped, meaning that you will have to keep spending up over time to keep your hair. I assume many men are happy to let nature take it's course, but obviously some men do care or the above businesses/products wouldn't have a market. And if you have tried hair regrowth, was your motivation for yourself or for the opposite sex, or perhaps general peer expectations? Of course having hair isn't essential to sexiness :) Even coming from a man, there are certainly some well-loved famous actors and musicians etc who are known for being bald (naturally or perhaps constantly shaven). What are your thoughts (men and women)?

I miss my mind the most! Hair loss, mid 20's here. Not an issue really. It's difficult to swim against the current. Your fighting a battle that cannot be won, go with the flow.

There will always be someone out there to make the most out of peoples insecurities. I was absolutely devastated around 30 when it was becoming obvious, mind you I had stunning curls and more hair than most women I knew and I would have swapped the loss of my knackers to have had it back. I seriously thought about regrowth when I was cashed before buying my house but I was over my devastation by then. I found it really hard especially considering in most things I generally don't give a rats arse. Show how attached to my glorious head of hair I was . Incidentally before I came to grips with it and realised, yes I am not famous and long hair with the monks top isn't a great look my friends used to stir me and call me Manny from 'black books' I actually liked that one as my personality was scarily a lot like his

For me ..... Simple..... Bald equals sexy as fuck! I'm not opposed to grabbing a head of hair and giving some direction, my preference is definitely bald though Imo if it's thinning it's inevitable, may as well embrace it , shave it n rock it!! Mmm now I'm imaging slick smooth oiled bodies rubbing all over me, Ultimate fantasy 3 bald sexy men, ..... Yum!!

I LOVE bald guys........but just a thought........if baldness was as common in women, there would be a hell of a bigger more push for regrowth methods/products/treatments. I feel for the guys, I would hate to start losing my hair. But in saying that, it doesnt make a difference to me whether a guy has hair, some hair or none at all xx

I see it like this. Sure, there are always visual elements that will catch someones eye in a positive or negative way. However..... Women tell is that sexiness is a state of mind... an attitude. They also tell us that personality often overrides having a "type" And we know from our own experiences fellas, that being an interesting, charismatic charming motherfuckker goes a lot further than just a glossy head of hair. Indeed.... if you have thick locks.... and act like a total cocksnag...... the hair becomes irrelevant.Completely. "I wish he wasn't such a douchebag.... he has such lovely hair"...... said no woman..... ever. So, keep yourself tidy, own who you are, define your own look..... and if you don't make an issue out of something, such as thinning hair, then others won't either. Now go forth and be that interesting, charming charismatic sone of a bitch!

but a good head of hair (long and tied back or short), number 1 hair cut or smooth and bald are all sexy. Ultimately what attracts my attention is a mans confidence, attitude, personality and behaviour. I would never discourage anyone from seeking hair regrowth treatment if it increases their confidence and self esteem. After all, women wear make up and undergo breast implant surgery and all sorts of other cosmetic procedures to boost their self confidence. I don't see why men shouldn't do the same if they think it will enhance their life. At the end of the day other people will love you for being you. LG

and by 30 id shaven it. I knew it was coming and it didn't worry me one bit. Sometimes I do miss it because it was nice to be able to chop and change the style a little bit at times. I do think I would be perhaps more attractive with hair but meh... But overall theres no way id spend decent money on keeping it or getting it back. To me its a case of 'why worry about something you cannot change'

Bald can look great on men, but please shave the lot. Worked for Bruce Willis, he's far sexier now than in his Moonlighting days I think. (and Jason Statham is mine. Mine!)

Due to having Had chemotherapy @ 42 I lost my hair. I had short hair at that time, and as soon as it started to happen I had it clippered. To be really honest I didn't mind having no hair, I couldn't go down the wig path. So used to wear gorgeous scarves. When I'd go out, friends would ask what I looked like with no hair so I'd show them, then I'd stay bald no use covering up again. And I never covered my bald noggin at home. I was lucky to have a nice shaped head, lol. Plus I always knew it would come back. Been short ever since. Sexiness is an attitude - and comes from within - and I'm more into eyes and smiles than hair Gypsy. - Posted from rhpmobile

Its like most things. Some men suit being bald some men don't. I have seen some very sexy bald men in the street. Wow! I would have some of him if I could!!! wipe up the drool as I pass.........And some that look awful. But the same applies to every other look-tattoos, long hair on guys, piercings. Its always a personal preference. However Monk tops and comb overs are never a good look. Comb overs remind me of Rab C Nesbitt and the comb over ad for Hamlet cigar!!! Google it.

Quoting 'SuperFoxxxy' I see you are bald and hung............Next to a tube of toothpaste. 😎😇 Ms Foxy Now.... I am using Macleans toothpaste at the moment, and out of pure curiosity, I just measured the tube at exactly 20cm from tip to tip.20cm is 7.86 inches. Bigboi claims to be 7-8 inches. Now, the tube in that photo is shortened by curling it over, while using it as a guide to "verify" a claim of size of 7-8 inches. So..... ladies and gentlemen..... the one clear thing here is...... Colgate is clearly better value for money!!! LOL

I personally prefer McLeans because it has a balder flavour (see what I did there?), but for all we know Bigboi got himself a maxi size Colgate tube at Costco. I like the idea of bald and hung.

I hated losing my hair, it really affected my confidence but the hair loss treatments are too expensive so I just had to accept it. I shaved it all off and it doesn't look to bad, I get a lot of compliments saying it suits me. The one thing I always think when I see guys trying to cling onto their last bit of hair is "FFS just shave it off" Going by the other replies most women prefer men to just shave it off than to try and hold on to it. - Posted from rhpmobile

I started losing my hair at 50 and have been using a German product but sad tosay it not working anymore and hair is failing to regrow plus it costs 100 amonth t use.I shaved bald when I was 50 and what I hated is that I looked older sothat is my issue with baldness.

I'm receding up top and in my experience and from others advice I'm led to believe that the saving in energy of your body growing a mop up top is compensated by using that energy to focus on other body parts...Could this be an urban myth, well as previously stated I'm in the balding category and I have the body of a Greek adonis and endowed like a small arm holding an apple so I'm a believer...I may also be a bull#%it artist also, but hey, bald guys can laugh at themselves too...BIG LOL.

When talking shaved are we talking with a blade or 0 on the clippers , until rhp and my wife taking a pic from behind , I had no idea of how far back my hair had marched, with a number 1 clip , now I'm shaving it off with a blade , great until the stubble grows the next day and things like tshirts and caps won't let go ,lol, - Posted from rhpmobile

If you're ears don't stick out. For me, if I did the bald look I would look like a combination of Shrek and Boris Karloff during his Dracula movies. I was going bald in my mid twenties, so went with a hairpiece 12 years ago now and wear them to this day. I said to myself I don't have to be bald if I want to, then I said I don't want to be bald.
