Before Gen Y came along

July 17 2015

Hi it's Leon here. Been living in sydney for a while and have seen the demise of our beloved clubbing life for poky speak easies and low lit whiskey bars. A few years back, my self and Samantha would go clubbing to places like DCM or temple of dance, the club before it became "the gaff" on oxford street etc which have all shut down. but I've heard from older people I know of clubs called black market and hell fire. This was before my time and I'm curious to know if anyone had been to these clubs or if you reminisce about clubbing venues since gone.

Blackmarket the recovery day club? Oh boy. Vaguely recall a Sunday or two there. Few other regular old haunts; Sublime (Pitt Street), Plastic, Club77, Ice. Gosh that was a while ago.

hellfire which was held at the BlackMarket club still exists. It is a fetish & BDSM nightclub held every third Friday of the month. Have a look at Sydney Hellfire on Facebook for all the details and pictures.

Was amazing back in the day Leon. We had some of the best clubbing anywhere, and that includes New York, Barcelona, Berlin etc. Blackmarket, Ziggurat, Tunnell, Kinsela's, Home, Byblos, Cauldron, Lunacy, RAT parties and DOME at the Hordern, DCM, The Underground, Sublime, Club 77, The Rooftop, Skygarden, Site/Soho, Moulin Rouge, Jamieson Street, Metro, Goodbar, NV, Palladium, Sugareef.........and all the monthly parties like House of Decadence, Sabotage, Stateside. I was a mad clubber through the 90's until the mid 2000's and and the scene was incredible. Awesome DJ's, international DJ's touring all the time and amazing sense of community among clubbers. DCM was at its best between 1994-1998........they were regarded as the golden years of DCM and it was an amazing place.....the music, the vibe, the people. spent thousands of hours in that place.

Hellfire @ Black Market, and the other dance parties there, Sublime, Hard Candy (or something like that in Kings Cross), rave parties at random places like Alexandria, Minto, Sutherland then finally homebush when Olympic Stadium was built. What do they say, if you can remember it really well you didn't really enjoy it properly?

There was Gen X (66-76). And we bemoan those boomers who preceded us....

I liked Y U (I think it was called) in Kings Cross, wasn't on the main drag, just off where it branches to the left at the first pedestrian crossing after the coke sign.
