I just went... And was recommended a restaurant - Chin Chin. Don't miss it. What a great place; superb Thai meal in a cool venue. There's a queue 6 nights a week, but they own the bar downstairs which is also a cool spot. 'Cookie' is another nice bar, and directly above it is a Japanese cocktail bar... Both worth checking out. I'll be going to all of them when the tennis is on in January. Happy travels.

There is a saints and sinners ball on new years eve. Bennetts Jazz Club. 25 Bennetts Lane is a nice little place...not sure if it's what your into or not though.

Agree with Chin Chin for for. Very, very good. Also, very very hard to get in to as they don't take bookings. Annoying. Places you have to try:Madame Brussels - On a rooftop, great view and great Pimms. Think Alice in Wonderland meets lawn tennis, and you're kinda there. Americano - Absolutely amazing cocktails. Liquor license for only 15. No seats. You're there because it's amazing cool and the drinks are incredible. For cocktails, also 1806 and Seamtress (it's a bar/restaurant, with the cocktail bar upstairs).Ponyfish Island - It's a bar in the middle of the Yarra, under a bridge. Bit grungier, but pretty good on a summers day. Similarly, Riverland (next to fed square) and The Boatbuilders Yard (near the exhibition centre), both outdoors.Dancing - Not a huge fan of most of the Melbourne clubs, however Baroq is ok in the city, but my favourite is Boutique in Prahran. That's been amazing for many many years. I'd love to show you around, but I'll be interstate when you're down here :(Enjoy!

Hey, well yes Melbourne is full of great lane-ways and cafes/bars, there are so many cafes in the morning to chose from and bars at night in these lane-ways that you will walk past without realising. If we can organise a time before hand i may be able to show you around for a little while as I have a very busy schedule planned over the new year. P.s you most definitely need a tour guide as there is plenty too chose from and so little time ;)

My choice would be Izakaya Den - a fairly cool Japanese restaurant. Give it a search, need to look at photos to do it justice :) For a bar - Cookie/Toff would be a good bet I'd say.

If you want a real eye opener check out revolver. Was there weekend just gone. A mate took me there. Left scratching my head and thinking to myself that you don't see that every day. Easier for girls to get in than guys. Don't judge me. Still cracking up - Posted from rhpmobile
