Book club anyone

January 09 2013

I can't believe it has taken me this long to start my first thread... lolI thought Saskia had a great suggestion today from Freya's "Things my daughter needs to know" of starting a book club thread for any RHP peeps who are closet bookworms. If you are currently reading or recently read a book to help inform yourself in sex, sexuality or relationships feel free to share with the peeps 1) what you are reading and 2) maybe what its about and what you are getting out of it/enjoying abut it. So starting off.1) Currently - "Screw the roses, send me the thorns" a suggestion from a fellow RHP'er - (you know who you are :) xox )2) Is all about BDSM for very beginners as was asked by my new partner that she is a bit submissive and is something we both want to explore. Goes into a lots of detail in simple terms (that even I can understand) starting at the very basics and then working up from there into a lot more detail. All about communication, respecting partner, safe play and establishing boundaries mixed in with some practical skills like knot tying and plenty of ideas to consider.

Hey Araps Thanks for the Topic. :) Actually the book I found most Informative and enjoyable was the "Karma Sutra" for it's originality and the step by step calendar of various Sexual Positions that accompanied it at the time. Very handy I used it for years.. But I wouldn't encourage My Lover to lick the sweat off the balls of a stallion so he can have the same stamina ..For 2 reasons 1.He probably would be trampled or get Kinky with horses hence no fun for me .. 2 a waste of time as Stallions only last about 7 secs he!he!.. A Fun 1 is call ABC of Sex for Dummies worth a read jusrt for a giggle :) Enjoy Cheers Lu :)

Surprisingly for someone as sexual as me, I find it really difficult to read erotica. It either sounds completely lame (like half of the long winded messages I get on here) or it just makes me nervous and fidgety!Birdsong was like that. I found the sex scenes in the beginning of the book hard to read.....I think it may have been because the lovers could have been discovered by the husband/children at any timme so there was that nervous anticipation I suppose.I've yet to read anything that's really 'turned me on'. But if you can suggest anything that a reasonably intelligent woman would enjoy (and I'm not talking 50 Shades of Grey here), let me know. Preferably with a military setting :)

for everyones replies so far Cheeky asses - I'm certainly no expert but from what I can see on-line her book has been savaged and curious if you feel the same or disagree? Thanks Cavey :)Lu - PMSL and will give it a look but will stay clear of the stallions. lolSaskia - look forward to hearing sometime soon what you are reading.LRE - Only read a couple of Terry Pratchett novels a very long time ago but was very funny. So much to read but RL keeps having other ideas.Ella - Don't mind the occasional military history nerdy book so birdsong sounds interesting. If you after something a bit more low brow ... and a bit of pot luck at times but can maybe try literotica.com or storiesonline.net as well

Awesome selection of titles available free online, most recent one one I read called "The last song" was pretty awesome, followed the moral degradation of a young man as he was taken through all the mortal sins leading to damnation. Plenty of sex and the spin of Satan as an advertising exec with a nymphette depraved daughter was pretty entertaining

As an adult I'd not read Pratchett’s books in order. There are some trilogies that sort of make sense to read in order. But actually It's not that important.I'd start with Mort (book 5 I think). A story about how DEATH takes on an apprentice. The thought of DEATH retiring in the first place is funny. My favourites Feet of Clay. A story about slavery and freedom How people actually tend to want to be subservient. Also Small Gods. About how the church can become bigger than the Gods they represent. The tenant being, Gods become small if people stop believing in them. It also stars Brother Numrod. Who constantly needs to go and ly down by him self.

The last book I read was Taming the Beast by Australian author Emily Maguire. A very good, if very confronting read. I did a post about it last night but apparently the rhp gods thought the content of the book is too controversial to describe. So I won't do that again, just say that it is definitely worth a read but is definitely not 'light' reading. For actual erotica, I recently read Quiver by Tobsha Learner, which certainly did get me going I have so many other books sitting here to be read....I think first up will be a re-read of the Hitch Hiker's Guide series by Douglas Adams...and then maybe the first book of Game of Thrones....

and I am currently reading Canadian writer Alice Monroe.I have just finished ''Hateship,courtship,loveship,marriage''....she is just a briliant observer of human foibles ,exploring the past through recollections of failed relationships with often a sense of underlying regret. I am now reading ''Too Much Happiness'' which won the 2009 Man Booker prize. If you are interested in erotica then Anais Nin is in my opinion the master. She wrote her two collections of stories for a collector of erotica in the 1940s.''The Delta of Venus'' and ''Little Birds''...her diaries are also worth a read....she is a fascinating woman,a close friend and lover of Henry Miller whose writing I do not find in the least bit erotic. ''Sex At Dawn ..the prehistory of modern sexuality ''by Ryan and Jetha should be on everyone's reading list.Basically it gives very good reasons why the concepts of marriage ,monogamy and the nuclear family are fatally flawed and lead to our high divorce rates and so much unhappiness.

try the books by Phillipa Gregory...The Other Boleyn Girl...about the sister of Anne Boleyn... an older writer now out of fashion is Norah Lofts.Mary Renault wrote terrific books set in Ancient Greece and Rome...if you want to try non fiction, try ''The Memoirs of the Duke de Saint Simon,''an insiders account of life at Versaiile in the 18th century.''The Diary of Samuel Pepys'' He was the architect of the British navy. When I was a girl, sometime last century I adored the works of Georgette Heyer. They were romantic it's true but were filled with great detail about life in Regency England. I hope you find something to your taste here Meeka, happy reading.

Yes that was a bit broad. I do like reading about English history, ancient Egypt, Middle East, I was obsessed about WWII. I loved all the Leon Uris books maybe it's time to reread them. Love Russian history pre-communism days. I did read a Phillip Gregory novel recently, but I felt she didn't develop all the characters that well. Do you find that Freya? Also love fantasy books like Harry Potter. Sorry aarap I know they are not sexual books. If I could have one super power it would be to travel back in time.

I thought Phillipa was ok,a friend of mine loves her.Did you see the Throne of Crowns series,a cross between the Tudors and Lord of the Rings. The novels are classed as fantasy I think.I picked up the first one but got bored.Loved the dvds though. Sebastion Faulks is an excellent writer...''Birdsong '' is set during ww1. Ernest Hemingway 's '' For Whom the Bell Tolls '' is a classic ww11 novel.

Awesome topic. The 2 best books that I have ready in the last year would have to be the "Kingkiller" series by Patrick Rothfuss. They are called "The name of the wind & Wise man's Fear" In general Erotica doesn’t do much form me besides give me ideas about fun new things to do with my lovely wife. A good friend sent me funny saying a while ago in regards to the grey series "Women are too classy to watch porn, but they will sure read the fuck out of it" I guess that's why greys did so well considering it's basically mills and boon with bondage. There is much better examples of erotica out there by much better authors: - Indigo Bloome’s “Destined” series, - Sylvia Day's novels are good, particularly the Crossfire novels, - Megan Hart’s novels - Juniper Bell’s “Receptionist” series - Anne Rice's Beauty series is basically sex with bondage from cover to cover but is very well written. - If you are into supernatural the: Laurel K. Hamilton’s “Anita Blake” series are really good and have great sex scenes from about book 10 onwards. Her Meredith Gentry series are basically full on sex with a Sidhe theme. Also Keri Arthur is a good Australian author of supernatural themed books Most of the other fangbanger books are absolute drivel. @ ellabeella10 If you like military themes in books there are several good sci-fi Authors/series that I would recommend: - Lois McMaster Bujold’s “Miles Vorkosigan” series is very well written, - David Weber’s “Honor Harrington” is a great space opera. - John Ringo’s Posleen series are about the earth being invaded and are good as well. @ OP. Probably the best series of action books aimed at men are “The Destroyer” series by Warren Murphy. They all basically take the piss out of the men’s novel genre and American society and are up to about 140 books in the series. I always get a laugh out of Terry Pratchett’s “Disk World” series. As a voracious reader I have tried to move mostly to ebook’s. I’m still one of the local bookshops favourite people but I just can’t afford all those books anymore. The best ebook management program is called Calibre and it’s free. PS. If anyone wants is after a particular book that they can’t find, I probably have it as an ebook. You never know if you don’t ask. Mark and Vixen

This book by Allan & Barbara Pease was really entertaining, simple to read and insightful. Every woman should read it! It was another door opening in my mind and another layer of traditional thinking thrown out. For the better. Sometimes a bloke is not that into you and there is no "one" person for you, have fun enjoy life and sex and stop taking it all so seriously. :)) Gave it to a very straight girlfriend of mine who believes there is the "one" person out there for her and if a guy doesn't want to explore a long term relationship after a few dates she stops seeing him. I am trying my hardest to open her mind to other possibilities and ways of viewing men. :)
