Boredom...do you do everything possible to avoid it?

April 14 2014

Do you fill every moment with texting,Facebook, twitter, instagram,Candy Crush, even RHP.Do you have sex because you are bored?:-) .....Digital technologies have enabled us to be constantly engaged.but there is a theory that boredom can be a good thing. It can be a catylst for creativity,....staring at the wall might actually allow our minds to process information.....So do you hate the idea of being bored,or do you just wish you had the opportunity in your busy life to experience boredom?......When you are bored, what do you do to alleviate it,do you embrace it or feel the need to fill the empty space?....xx Q

I don't get bored often. I have an active inner life and am also pretty good at just chilling out (these days!). I spend a LOT of time alone and occasionally I get bored with myself. I recently joined a Meet Up group and we've bush-walked, had brunch, been to an event etc. It's nice to be making new friends in my new place of abode, but it's also nice to just enjoy some solitude. - Posted from rhpmobile

I must say I never get bored, and not because I'm that busy. I like staring at a wall and practising some mindfulness. If I miss a train and the next one is 30 minutes away, I listen to my music and daydream. My problem is prioritising. There are so many things much more useful than being on RHP.

Time alone for me is a time to reflect, dream and quite often than not, let my mind just imagine things. I like to go to the beach and find a quiet spot to sit and relax and really take notice of my breathing. All I am concentrating on is my breathing and I feel the thoughts and clutter that has built up from work, family etc just exit my mind. It's a great feeling to just let go of the world and find yourself in your own place. I guess this stems from my childhood. Every holidays my sister and I would just go build cubby houses, traps for the robbers to get stuck, war games and yeh all the things that require imagination. I try to carry that to my everyday life as I find that with work I do need to think outside the box quite often and the pressures of my role is demanding too...so that time where I can just stop, listen and let go is very important to me. I love watching people go by, nature, the sky...well anything really. So yeh I don't see it as being bored because my mind is always finding ways to keep me occupied and happy :)

I often feel there aren't enough hours in the day to do what I need to do and what I want to do. That doesn't mean I never just sit and relax with a cup of tea at night. I haven't been bored since before my kids were born and now my youngest is 17 I feel like I'm reclaiming my life back again and managing to get some "me" time in again as well as get away for a break more often. I love that right now.

there is no such thing as boredom or being bored...So I learnt to make my own fun and entertainment. Living by myself it's great, as I get to know my self a little more by pushing myself to do things to stimulate my brain. Sometimes I will listen to music, read, watch tv, potter around the house, clean or just sit and listen at the back to the neighbors screaming child, walk the dog, go to work, visit friends.....the list is endless. Sometimes I need that "boredom" quiet time to recharge to gather peace and serenity. When my daughter was living with me she would say "I'm bored"...drove me nuts! I would always say "There's no such thing" LOL Foxy

is a state of mind. I can be alone in solitude and not be bored and I can be flat out but be bored. I don't bore myself, I have lots of stupid thoughts that keep me questioning everything so my mind is active, I can be really busy doing something mundane and then I will be bored but unfortunately some of those boring things need doing.

I live in a truck(literally). I work as a one man band. I eat alone, and whenever I go to the movies or the pub, I'm alone. The only time I'm not, is when I have my kids, or if I've been able to attend a greet and meat. Bored?? No. Lonely?? Sometimes. - Posted from rhpmobile

I've read heaps of your forum posts and i imagine you can always find enjoyment in something. I can always find something to do too. If i can't find something i like already i use the internet to learn something new. And of course I'm a gamer so there's always something i haven't played yet. Also i'm creative so i write short stories or poems or short screenplays to amuse myself. I can draw too so i guess i have tons of outlets to alleviate boredom. I spend time on RHP cos I'm opinionated and love to tell people what i think. Sad but true .

Quoting 'lilmiss_fussy' Surely you need to organise an RHP movie night, then :P - Posted from rhpmobile We could hang a screen off the truck and have a drive in movie night. At least you have a truck, to live in Stir. We are moving on to a rock next week, it's a nice one, folks lived on it for fifty thousand years, so it's quite cosy.

I never get bored because I have a lousy memory. I start a project and along the way run into one I've left unfinished and get distracted by it. Can you visualise a trail of unfinished projects all just waiting for a burst of creative input? Yeah. Who's got time to get bored? Hugs Gazpacho

I spend a great deal of time by myself. I can be fully occupied by self indulgent activities all day and half the night. But on reflection when I think I am bored, it is usually loneliness, so I seek the company of friends and it passes.
