...and left of centre dope smoking well-aged hippies. Hard to tell the difference, I know! I think I wait and make a run for the border...then down to Mexico!

and I'll be heading back for Christmas. It's been ages since I visited the War Memorial, it's quite amazing. If you're into it the mountain biking is about as good as you'll get in Australia...Mt Stromlo in particular. A walk around the lake near the Captain Cook fountain is beautiful, and the Kingston foreshore has really exploded with cafes bars and restaurants, plus the bus depot markets nearby. - Posted from rhpmobile

a really cool second hand bookshop. Can't remember where it was now, but one of those delicious bookshops with bookshelves right up to the ceiling, books randomly stacked here and there, you could spend all day in there. I found some nice rares. Going back a few years now, don't even know if it's still there. Love Canberra. Our visits were always short, passing through on the way to Perisher, but somehow always felt at home there

... This is interesting ... was listening to talk back radio yesterday the subject being religion and decency etc.. A fair bit and back and forward opinions on religion , when the host drops a pearler and states ' that recently there was a weekend seminar held in Canberra for hundreds of certain church groups from all around the nation. He then went on to say that the red light area ( Fyshwich ) also reported the best business for weekend ever .. ? Coincidence ? Lol....

Quoting 'jayme2' that recently there was a weekend seminar held in Canberra for hundreds of certain church groups from all around the nation. He then went on to say that the red light area ( Fyshwich ) also reported the best business for weekend ever .. ? Coincidence ? Lol.... no doubt he meant the cafes and refreshment vendors, because they were all there doing such hard work counseling the godless deviants to repent and save their souls.

Run by hubby and wife and their lovingly named book-monkeys :-)

It's always the case of the 2nd busiest time of the year being when Summernats is on....and the busiest is when parliament is in session!

Always amuses me how Canberra has the most relaxed laws like porn and fireworks etc when the rest of the country has restrictions. One rule for us different rules for the rest.

Being that I don't Canberra very well, I just bought up a map to refresh my memory re what part of Canberra we stayed. Bingo, we stayed at the Pavilion on Northbourne and I recall the bookshop being not too far from there, certainly in that part of the city. I'll do a few searches and see if I can find it 👍

I think, and I stress think being it was 5+ yrs ago, that it was Book Lore in Lyneham. Looking at pictures inside, the shelves don't go to the ceiling, that was just how I remembered it, but the building has high ceilings. Pretty sure this is the one. I found some rare old 1940's Little Golden Books for $1 each, unbelievable. I'm sure you would have been to Impact Comics in the city? Lashed out and bought a few old Western Comics, Sgt Fury and his howling commandos and an awesome Rawhide one. Love the old cover art 👍 At that time, they had outdoor iceskating right near there. Canberra is like a big country town. We drove into the city centre for breakfast, parked on the side of the road, carspaces free everywhere lol what other city can you do that in with ease? The only thing it's missing is the ocean, otherwise beautiful 😃

Canberra is so straight because the bulk of its residents are public servings. Public servants tend to all operate with very strict guidelines that cover every aspect of their work activities and their interactions with each other. They work an extra 8 minutes per day (maybe a few minutes out here) and this accrues to them being able to have all the “work days” between public holidays from Xmas to New Year’s Day off. Not bad !! In private enterprise employees work hours extra every day just to keep their jobs lol So all in all this over regulation makes for a very boring rigid population. Believe me I know all of this to be true from first hand experience. My thoughts - don’t bother unless you like a challenge....😂😂😂 - Posted from rhpmobile
