Eat less. Exercise is fine but sometimes it takes so much effort and time to move only a little. Controlling food portions and the type of food is far easier. Or... Find a couple that loves food as much as you. Maybe you could involve food with your sex. Hmmmm. Which hole do I put this cake into - that sort of thing.

Quoting 'harps' We've been trying out the apple and water diet with light exercise. Losing each about 1kg per day. may appeal as quick fixes and because of marketing spin about 'detoxing' and other rubbish, but they do not work in the long term.

Spot on. Portion control is the most effective way of losing weight, along with cutting out sugar as mentioned by Cavey. And it's sustainable too, unlike fad or crash diets. Exercise is great... but for fitness and not weight loss. Guess what my NY resolution is lol?

Your certainly right about it not being a sustainable diet and shouldn't be stretched past about a week, we at-least find its a easy way to lose a few kg without constantly feeling hungry and giving up after day 3 like with traditional calorie controlled diets. After that we switch back to eating a balanced diet in reasonable proportions to maintain. Biggest thing is cutting down carbohydrates (avoid breads, beer, pasta, potato's, rice, sugar) and eat more proteins like beef, fish, chicken, mushrooms, eggs with a salad....even wines and straight spirits. This alone will make a huge difference. Plenty of different types of diets out there, just don't think of all of them as depressing fun ending curses. The battle is just as taxing mental as it is physical, hardest part is starting.

Agree; High protein low carb is definitely the way to go for long term sustainable weight control.

The idea of making certain foods / food groups the 'enemy', and using the term 'diet', is what leads to problems for a lot of people in sticking to healthier eating. For the majority of people who don't have actual allergies / intolerances or other health issues which involve a strict diet (e.g. the keto diet which is sometimes used in severe cases of epilepsy and obesity that haven't responded to other treatments), then there isn't any need to make healthier eating so complicated with so many rules. All of the fads that exist around food these days - low carb, clean eating, paleo, etc. are marketing spin that are being exploited by some people who are making lots of $ out of them and often feeding people (pun intended) a whole lot of misinformation. The issues with sugar / simple carbs are the fact that the foods that contain them are generally highly palatable to us and less filling, so we end up eating a lot more of them than we should. It's ok to eat them, just make sure it is in moderation. There's really no need to label that as a 'low carb diet', it's just using common sense. The complex carbs are actually very good for us, are one of if not the most important energy source, and are also good for satiety (i.e. feeling fuller quicker), so most people shouldn't be avoiding those. Again just don't eat huge amounts. Protein is generally the most filling so yes it is good when you're trying to control your calorie intake, and for a healthier diet in general, but again there's really no need to call it something special. If people are after evidence-based, no nonsense information on healthier eating and exercise I would recommend having a read of some of James Fell's stuff.

... for me this Christmas. ๐Ÿ˜› Sat at a table full of yummies but I ate slowly and stopped when I felt full. Gave the Christmas cake a miss too. My weight loss didn't come easy, and I value my health. I did binge on other sweet stuff before the party and because my sweet quota had been reached, no Christmas cake. ๐Ÿ˜› I also didn't want to have to deal with a wardrobe full of new smaller- sized clothes I could no longer fit into. ๐Ÿคฃ I can't go purchasing clothes again, and I can't walk around looking like I'm going to burst out of my clothes so... practicality ruled the day. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ Here's a tip... wear a figure-hugging dress to parties. You wouldn't be able to binge eat even if you wanted to. Not unless you want to stand around the entire night because sitting down would rip the seams! ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ It's not losing weight that matters - it's about modifying eating habits for a healthier lifestyle. Love your body and you'll stop force-feeding yourself. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I disagree about exercise not aiding weight loss. I eat like a horse and burn it off, it not only burns off excess intake (speeds up metabolism), but tightens muscle, reducing fatty foods or binge days yes, but a combination of the two is crucial for me. I never diet though anymore. The daily crazy stuff I do means I can pretty much eat whatever I want. Exercise is key to maintaining it IMO and my experience

Agree that exercise is good for maintaining weight loss, but exercise alone is ineffective as a weight loss mechanism. I have friends who do serious time in the gym - weights and cardio - but always complain that the weight is not coming off. Then I look at what they eat, and how much, and it's no wonder they're not losing anything and nor is their body shape changing. I stacked on weight a few months ago, and then got back into an exercise routine. The weight gain has stopped, but I'm still 5kgs heavier than I want to be. And the only way I'm going to shift those 5kgs is if I stop stuffing cakes, lollies and sweet things into my mouth. Simple as that for me.

Helps me stay focused and my head clear though. Mind/Meals/Movement the three go together for me. Eating real food and moving every day keeps me in a good headspace. Not being able to exercise because of operation for the last month I have only gained a couple of kilos but lost motivation. It sucks and just hurt my injury again starting back. Feeling blah canโ€™t wait to exercise again and feel better. Definatley have lost tone and strength that the exercise brought to the table. ๐Ÿ™ - Posted from rhpmobile

Yeah definitely both but diet alone is a neverending cycle of loss and regaining the weight. I spent my whole life doing that and it was always a battle I lost, or wasn't winning. I now eat what I want, all kinds of crap lol lollies and chocolate I eat every day usually, I do otherwise eat reasonably healthy, canned fish and salad/vegetables, I don't eat stodgy white bread, wholemeal only. What I found beneficial was increasing physical activity, finding things I love doing so it's never a chore, and doing it every single day. It has increased my metabolism hugely and tightens muscle/butt/legs etc important at my age fighting against gravity lol but you would be shocked if you knew what I consumed some nights. I just get up and hit the exercise and maybe skip a meal the following day. We're taught to eat 3 meals a day and to eat them morning noon and night. I threw that out the window. I eat at strange times whenever I feel like it, and so does my son. Not uncommon for us to be cooking a meal at 2 am ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ meet in the kitchen and say 'are you hungry?' ๐Ÿ˜€ I guess I don't usually eat much during the day, banana and chocolate for breakfast every single day with coffee, then don't usually eat again until dinner with a heap of physical exercise through the day. Dieting the traditional will never work long term IMO but I know what you mean, what they are putting into their bodies is more energy than they are burning off

and as much as portion control is good ,itโ€™s what you shove in your mouth that counts ,since gyming for a year now ,myself and mrs b have never been so hungry and stuffed in as much food as we do now,you donโ€™t want to be ship wrecked with us ,lol ,but we try to stick to good old meat or chicken and three vegetables ,and slow cooked meals with home made sauces ,without all the sugars and salt , for a helpful loosing weight tip i learned long ago ,get rid of those stupid fancy giant plates and sub in old style normal or smaller plates ,doesnโ€™t take as much to fill one up and make your mind think itโ€™s had enough ,but put the same amount of food on a giant plate and it looks empty ,causing the mind to think that was stuff all ,i need seconds or thirds mr b - Posted from rhpmobile

I have definitely indulged this Christmas season and have a Christmas belly๐Ÿ’ƒbut I'm still ravishing and fun ๐Ÿ˜œ. I'm not too worried. Those who know me here will see I have put on 5 kgs over 3 months (since Melbourne spring carnival). I know I'll be losing this soon but do love to indulge this time of the year. Why not? so many fun social dinners, work parties and family and friends catch up. I'll be starting back up in the gym next week so no stress. I can easily lose 5 kgs in 2 weeks with my regular exercise and back to healthy eating. I have recently partnered in the restaurant business 2 months ago so frequent trips (after my day job)to the site to oversee turnover of business means I also get to taste their fare everyday and as much beautiful strong soy latte as I want. ๐Ÿ˜‰ harsh life I know. ๐Ÿ˜œ Now I just need to crank up that treadmill... ๐Ÿ˜ž But watch out 2018. I'll be my svelte hot self in 2-3 weeks. for now, I'm enjoying rubbing my little belly. It may bring good luck like Buddha๐Ÿ˜„
