Cologne, which is best?

May 28 2014

So I've run out of cologne, or what used to (I think) be called aftershave). Sucks to be me, I know. The last one I had, according to a friend, smelled really good but tasted like crap when she was nuzzling my neck/cheek. I think it was one of the Hugo Boss ones. But I digress - are there any male fragrances out there (aside from sweat!) that really make you go weak at the knees? An enquiring mind wants to know! - Posted from rhpmobile

I like Bulgari and am often complimented on it, and me, smelling nice. But I know others who it doesn't suit just as other scents don't match with me. So wearing something just because others like isn't always going to suit you as your own scent tones and notes may clash with a fragrance or merge to become unpleasant to the women you're asking here. 2c

by Sean John I think it is. I had a little card that it was sprayed on and kept it in my purse and I used to just sniff it every now and then, it lasted for ages. I hear a lot of good things about Joop from other women and I have asked guys at work what they were wearing as it was nice and there have been a few tell me it is Joop.

I was in a meeting when a colleague walked in and the woman sitting next to me had an allergic reaction to the cologne he was wearing.....her eyes started to water and turn red,I have no idea what the brand was but as DG said,it depends on how the chemicals in the cologne combine with the chemical you..take a woman friend with you when trying different scents.Personally I love the woody ones, sandalwood and cedar bases xx Q

That's very sexy for a man to know about notes and tones ;) Personally I don't like any strong artificial smells, especially on guys that seem to bathe in it, but don't mind just a hint of aftershave that's fresh and natural smelling (woody bases, yes), or just the smell from his bodywash mixed with his scent. I do love inhaling in the scent of a freshly showered man - as he would have noticed last night ;) @Mado - FYI, WD40 works on ants too LOL - Posted from rhpmobile

There is nothing better than a man that smells Divine, that smell when a man walks past and you immediately have turn around and see who it is...... Armani, Ed Hardy, Jean Paul Gaultier, cool water, are some of my favourites, you need to find one that suits you, smells good on you, that one that's going to turn a woman's head.....💋

It is true that the chemistry is right for the sweetest smelling scents, my all time favourite is called Tara, straight from a sacred fountain, not unlike a thousand rose petals it takes to make a single drop, fresh as the morning flower, I'd bottle the stuff if I could. But it makes me smell like a girl, guess I am in touch with my feminine side.

I have been using Davidoff Cool Water for about five years now. That's my work and everyday after shave. For going out I use L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme by Issey Miyake. Much more woody profile plus citric almost. Anyway both these bottles are almost finished so looking for a new one too! My friend uses an Ed Hardy one and every girl I know who goes near him falls in love with the smell. So I'm leaning towards getting a bottle. - Posted from rhpmobile

Although the question is posed for women but even then it is impossible to say which is the best. Depends on the person, the age, the season .... I prefer Leather and Wood as the heart with citrus in the base node of the fragrance any time to of the year. Spices with wood is also a great combination and for Cirtus goes well for summer. Some of my favourite (just to name a few) which women have also complimented on are: Isey Miyake (the blue bottle one)Black Euphoria FahrenheitDrakkar (all time favourite)AdventureSafariBVL Bulgari Armand BassiPaco Rabane (original)XS (original)and the list goes on I am into colognes...... 25 plus sitting in the Drawer oh and not everyone's cup of tea but Oil based fragrances are also awesome..... Oudh (type of wood) with Spices is strong (yukky in the beginning) but great after 15 mins of application.

i love the scent of a man who just sweated a bit, then showered and smelling of soap. I love the scent of a man who has just splashed a bit of his cologne, not drowning not overpowering. Just enough to give me hint of his spiciness, enough to lure me to move in closer... evoke curiousity, stroke my libido of how beautiful and sexy it would be to get closer and bury my face in the manly neck so I can fully appreciate the freshness of his sweet cologne and the taste the saltiness on his skin.... Ahhhhhh... Brands... hmmm depends on the occasion but I do like Tom Ford for Men, Bulgari, Hugo Boss and Narciso Rodrigues for men. some of the colognes that come to mind... some of these scents smell different in some men, depending on the acidity of their skin... but that is another topic altogether... I just love to smell my clean men.

My previous scent of preference was Safari..... then I discovered Bulgari which works well on me. and PS... OP, they all taste like crap.... so spray them in areas where someone is less likely to taste you.... on your wrists and hands works well as hands move, spreading scent particles..... don't spray on your clothes or hair as most scents contain alcohols which dry out and can discolour.

Also love Cool Water by Davidoff, and Boss Elements. For the ladies anything by John Paul Gaulitier is hmmmmm... and of course Roberto Cavalli. Body chemistry is obviously crucial - your own odour, how much you sweat, how dry your skin is, what deo you use with it, what you do on a daily basis while wearing it, they all must impact how 'well' you wear a cologne. Personally I dislike floral tones, even though quite a significant number of men's fragrances have them in spades. Personal favourites that I both love and seem to suit me, in that order (although I really haven't spent enough time sifting through them all): Boss (by Hugo Boss)Le Male (by Jean Paul Gaultier)Emporio Armani 'He' (by Giorgio Armani)Cool Water (by Davidoff) Dabbled in XY by Hugo Boss & Eternity for Men by CK. I tend to like to wear the Boss deodorant when I'm wearing the cologne out on the town or a date or such, completes the package better! It's a tad expensive and lost on work colleagues to use as an everyday deo though. I did love the Le Male shower gel when I had it; great smell on and throughout the room after using it. Love Candy by Prada, 'Blue' by Ralph Lauren and Gaultier '2/squared' on ladies but, again, that may be impacted by the lady behind the perfume.
