Would be Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Salvador Dali, Jim Carrey, George Best ( brilliant soccer player) and Jason Statham for eye candy. Eclectic mix but the conversation would be interesting to say the least.

My guests would include Boudicea (Queen of the Iceni tribe), Hildegard Von Bingen (Abbess, mystic, visionary, musician) Starhawk (Activist, author, community engagement specialist, witch), Tom Robbins (Author of Even Cowgirls Get the Blues etc), Rodriguez (Singer/songwriter), Augusto Boal (Theatre of the Oppressed). I'm with Freya on finding it hard to choose only 6. Maybe a dinner party a week with different guests

A good mix for me. Chief justice retired Mike Kirby, Ernest Hemingway, Gandhi ( he won't eat much), merryl Streep, Errol Flynn and Hugh Jackman. I wouldn't know what to serve for dinner but there shall be copious amount of wine to loosen up theur tongue and tell us about their life stories.

Julia Gillard, Sir Robert Menzies, Kevin 07, Tony Abbott, Benjamin Disraelli, Charles de Gaule. I think the antics of Julia and Keve will pale into insignificance and the others pull Tony apart!

I use 6 because I think it keeps everyone in the conversation I personally change the the 6 quite a bit but I always think Stephen fry , billy Connelly , Einstein, Natalie wood, Marilyn Monroe and Robert Downey jr I think we can all agree getting that core group together that interact is hard. I do find it interesting who others choose.

Quoting 'Luck_Dragon' Rachel Carson I thought about Rachel Carson for mine, too, but decided for this dinner party I wanted to keep it more light-hearted. As I was doing this thought experiment, though I started thinking about how you could do this as a regular, say, Sunday night dinner series - I started thinking through theme nights: Film, Deep Thought, Music. I don't think limiting the conversation to just 6 participants is enough, even for a mental exercise.

I'm not going to lie I love some of these list and have thought I wish I had some of these people, some of the people like Hypathia I have gone to look up. I am curious we seem to all have funny people, smart people and normally one eye candy of our preferred gender. Does this mean we rank funny and intelligent over looks? Or do we just assume looks will make you boring ?

I haven't read through the other responses yet, so apologies if I've double up on any of the last four. Top of my list would be my parents and my son. My Mom & Dad passed away before my son was born, so it would be wonderful for the three of them to meet. Other guests would be Nelson Mandela, Professor Brian Cox and Herodotus. Six guests plus myself makes seven. Can't have a dinner party with an odd number of guests, so I'm going to invite a seventh person: Rosie Batty.

Quoting 'tylannister'I don't think limiting the conversation to just 6 participants is enough, even for a mental exercise. There's lots of others that would be on my list as well. Dylan Moran, Amy Schumer, Eddie Vedder, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Laura Prepon (as long as she has black hair like she does on Orange is the New Black ), etc. etc....

flawed hero's like Lance Armstrong and Diego Maradonna. These are guys who at the height of their popularity were more influential than most world leaders and bigger than any movie star or pop icon ever........they were virtually untouchable. Their stories are both remarkable and yet deeply troubling, particularly Armstrong. A real study of the human condition

Gaius Julius CaesarJames Earl JonesQueen VictoriaSir Christopher LeeLady Margaret ThatcherMoses The subject of politics would likely be raised early, but it'd be feisty and heated I'm sure. Not dull. And the booming voices! Between Lord Vader, Saruman and the Iron Lady...I'd be quietly sipping my Chardonnaywhilst they bellow it out.And as expected, Victoria wouldn't be amused.

I choose six because I thought it was the most you could have with out sub groups starting and odd so there was no pairing up but I guess 7 so you can have two groups of 4 for pictionary or charades later on.

Bono and his wife Ali Hewson Robert Downey Jr- actor Rosa Parkes- activist for equal rights in the U.S. in the 60s Jane Goodall- primatologist Roger Patterson- apparently filmed 'bigfoot' For those that want Billy Conolly there, you couldn't meet a nicer guy. Nearly got to the end before someone chose my fav and No1 guest. 1-Sir David Attenborough 2-The Queen 3-Dick Smith 4-Alice Cooper 5-Sir Winston Churchill 6-WWII spy, can't recall her name but she and her trusty German shepherd (that barked at the nazis if they came near her car)snuggled something like 700kids out of the concentration camps in the tool box of her car during the war. An amazing achievement!!! For a twist, It would be a seven course meal with each person providing one course each from their era. :) Enjoy :) - Posted from rhpmobile

Jesus Christ, I just want to see if he turns up. Noah, I would love to hear about building that boat, if he turns up. Julian the Martyr, often called "the Apostate": 4th Century Roman emperor who attempted to restore Paganism as the dominant religious faith of the empire. He is actually written into the history books. Sir Ahmed Salman Rushdie, the guy is still reaping the benefits of that little play on religion probably still under protection. Joseph "Joe" Dolce, someone needs to be umpire.

I've read this thread all the way and wondered who I'd invite, thanks to Meander's post in A & E I now know I'd make it a serious attempt at retrospective intervention as determined by the terms and conditions specified in the OP.Yes I'm talking about the taboo and stigmatised subject of suicide...Firstly I'd invite my father who I only knew as a toddler.Secondly his brother who was killed in 1943 during WW2.Thirdly Curt Cobain.Fourthly his daughter Frances Bean.Fifthly Rachel. Finally Rachel's Mum.The conversation would be many things, boring would not be one of them... "Three months ago, a 14-year-old girl wrote to NSW government, weeks after the suicide death of her mother, and asked them to "educate children about domestic violence and how to seek help".
