Disease free - regularly tested

February 24 2014

How comforting is this statement? I am a regular blood donor, every two weeks (plasma) so I could claim that I am regularly tested, which I am. But if I have unprotected sex tomorrow then how good is the claim. Are others worried or does it not matter as we age? A friend died yesterday which I suppose drives the question. If we can be gone tomorrow why worry?

There are tests and then there are tests. Not all blood tests will test for all sexually transmitted diseases. And one can pick up something just like that, after just one unprotected session. And yes one can die tomorrow or one can not . One never knows. But it would be irresponsible to go out and do risky things and by so doing put others at risk of picking up ones infection / disease. It like someone who had terminal AIDS going out there and deliberately infecting others . That would be criminal in my opinion. Just my 2 cents worth. Leslie - Posted from rhpmobile

And on the rise. And HIV could mutate, or something-else come up like AIDS did to be a death sentence for those infected. We don't live in fear but we sure as hell minimise our risks through safe play.

It is interesting how as we get older the more we are aware of our mortality. The obvious point to make is yes, it is your life however there is the person you are having sex with to consider. Also future partners. The person you are with at the time may be happy with no safe sex as they have the same thoughts as you. What if you did catch something, it will affect you with future sexual meetings. Nearly all sexual diseases that we can catch do not affect our mortality thanks to modern science, they can however affect our health & quality of life. It also can affect how we feel about ourselves. Remember this goes for our sexual partners as well as ourselves. I can see were you are coming from but as you may have a sex life for a few years yet I wouldn't be doing things that could limit it.

You're absolutely correct. But if everyone actually was regularly tested and then managed responsibly, most of the STD would be removed from the scene. Wouldn't that be cool? Hugs Gazpacho

The specter of death seems to make its self ever more plain as the years tick inexorably by and are made more poignant as we start to lose more and more friends and family. We start to count the time we have, and contemplating the woefully inadequate allotment given it is very easy to take a devil may care attitude. We all must balance risk against enjoyment and not let fear dictate, for fear is seldom proportional to the dangers. STI are very low risk, there are many infectious agents that lurk all around us and we seem to be totally indifferent to the dangers they pose. It is whimsical that the general apathy towards high risk dangers is such a contrast to the popular consternation towards STI's. Understanding risk is the first step in being safe. Quoting Rustler: "But if I have unprotected sex tomorrow then how good is the claim." There is no such thing as safe sex, having any form of intimate human contact negates any claim to be clean. Depending on the STI condoms offer next to no protection all the way to very goods protection. Anyone that feels safe behind a tiny bit of latex that covers just your dick is living in a fools paradise. Enjoy your self and don't be a victim of the foolish fear mongering associated with sex. You are doing the right thing in getting regular testing (Everyone should). A StI is not an individual's problem, it is a community and social problem, and as such we must fight together. The only way to do that is via regular testing. BTW. Condolences for your loss.

If you ARE a regular blood/plasma/platlets donor!!! It doesn't matter and I would not be worried if you ARE NOT!!! It doesn't matter how old or young one is, he/she must make sure that they are clean to donate blood/plasma/platlets, if they are or want to be a regular donor!!! It would be cruel to pass on one's disease to the already-ill person or people, who are meant to be saved instead of killed or made suffering even more!!! I am a regular RC donor too, so I do care as I can't imagine what kind of hell it would be like for the blood recipient to receive the infected blood!!! 😡 - Posted from rhpmobile

Sure you may get tested for HIV and hepatitis, but you're blood won't get tested for chlamydia or gono. I think everyone should have a full STI on a regular basis. It's so easy, why wouldn't you? :)

Quoting 'Kisskiss80' Sure you may get tested for HIV and hepatitis, but you're blood won't get tested for chlamydia or gono. Same goes for syphilis, herpes and genital warts.

Testing for me ensures that I am personally disease free, and if not I take whatever medicine is required. So testing is for my lover and my personal health. Otherwise when I was in the scene I always used condoms for sex penetration. Cock and fist and toys. It's about minimising the risk as you can't totally eliminate it. Unfortunately.
