First album you bought and first concert/gig you went to

February 07 2015

Whats the first album/cd you ever bought, with your own money when you were a kid. And the first live gig or concert you went to? I will start ( because I can) First album i bought was Madonna Immaculate Collection. Live concert was Slim Dusty ( dont judge me) when i was 7 yrs old, living in Mt Isa.

And such great memories! My first album (CD from Sanity) that I still have and always play loud and proud is Alanis Morissette's classic 90's debut 'Jagged Little Pill'. Bought it with my pocket money in '95, when I was just five years old (young hippy parents were a sound musical influence) - it's to this day one of my prized possessions. As for a concert, that didn't happen until I was about 16. I saw a little known punk outfit 'Mindless Self Indulgence' and was pretty horrified when the lead singer Johnny Urine lived up to his name sake and gave the nosebleed section a golden shower. And you wonder why I turned out this way. It's that darn rock and roll! :P -KK x - Posted from rhpmobile

My first album was on tape and it was Moving Pictures album called Days of Innocence. To this day I still love the song What About Me. First concert was an outdoor concert when I was about 14 I think, so around 1984 ish. I don't remember all the acts but they were all Aussie bands like I Am Talking, Do Re Mi and Mental as Anything, etc. It was also where I had my first pash! Ooh la la.

Ive seen them since a few times with dave gleeson as front man, gee hes a trippa, but he rocks it well as their new lead. The only other band that has ever pulled off having a new front man is acdc. And that first album with brian will always be a classic.would have been awesome hearing it in the hg shaggin wagon

Wow , this is opening some doors in the old brain that haven't been opened in a while , I can't remember buying any albums , but i loved my parents copy of Bob Seger - stranger in town , the one with hollywood nights on it . It used to put me to sleep as a toddler apparently and they gave it to me when i was 6 yrs old . First tape i bought was the Ozzy osbourne / randy rhoads tribute when i was 8 with birthday money . First cd i received as a present was delicate sound of thunder / pink floyd live , first cd i bought was pearl jam /ten . First concert i attended was billy idol at the sydney ent cent in 85 ( parents were big fans ) , first concert i wanted to see was pink floyd / delicate sound of thunder in 88 or 89 at the ent cent and was lucky enough to see with some family. As far as the best concert i have seen , I cant decide between , Pink floyd , henry rollins at the metro in sydney and TOOL at the newcastle uni on the aenema tour . I have been playing the drums since i was 8 and to be 10ft away from danny carey (drummer in tool ) was very special .

I saw Joe Satriani last november, had to do the meet and greet just so I could touch his hands haha, that was a highlight for me, And... I got picked to go on stage for the encore.Amazing!! But back to drummers, I also reckon Rob Hirst is the best drummer in Aus. Cant take your eyes off him when hes playing.Actually Im a bit of a groupie and try and see him as often as I can in his 2 groups, The Break and The Backsliders. Love him!!

Always great to hear from a woman who likes music and drummers particularly , no arguments here about your choices , luzier is pretty good , chickenfoot are a great band( heaps better than RHCP) , rob is a showman and a good drummer , i've played his kit at a clinic , I too have had the pleasure of meeting satch , are you referring to the g3 tour with him steve vai and lukather where they did a meet and greet /clinic before the show ? i also have been playing the guitar since i was 12 so to have some lessons from those 3 was a highlight i will never forget . Terry bozzio is somebody you should check out if you haven't heard of him , he was in the frank zappa band for a little while ,but mainly does clinics and instructional stuff these days . Have you ever heard the piece of music "for the love of god " by steve vai , it will bring tears to your eyes , especially a live version if you can find one . It will bring about a state called "musically evoked frisson " if you are a person that gets the goosebumps when certain passages or chords are played then this is the song for you . Women are more likely to experience this than men , i'm a lucky male that also experiences this phenomenon and why i love music and especially live concerts , and am able to play instruments at a high level

Best gigs:1993-95 was a golden age - Tool, Beastie Boys, NiN, Smashing Pumpkins all at their peak; but Pearl Jam at the Myer Music Bowl where 1000's of fans broke down the fences and joined the mosh was probably the best. An earlier highlight was Ratcat (remember them?). As a bunch of 19yr old wannabe promoters, we made a fortune after locking in a price before they went an old fashioned version of viral. Planning a gig for 500 and having to scale up to 5000 was a learning curve! And before that in the front few rows for ACDC as a 17yr old would be one to remember, if it wasn't also the first time I got drunk enough to throw up. More recently and more sedated, Roger Waters reimagining The Wall was spectacular. And in-between a whole lot of electronic and dance including some huge raves. Seems quite a few of us went to the same gigs or tours, back in the good ol' days. Bit of a live music lover here though, and still get out to gigs as often as I can.
