I had a Peter Pan and Wendy book that I read to death. But my favorites when I was about 10 was The Cronicles of Narnia by C S Lewis, a set of 6 books that I loved so much and would hide myself in the world of Narnia, over and over for yrs. i still have them.

With the holes through the cardboard pages. A couple of months back a few mates and I were at an op shop looking for costumes for a charity golf day (yes really) and there it was. Didn't bring it home but read the whole thing in the store. And Clifford, the big red dog. Brilliant stuff. - Posted from rhpmobile

Always been a favourite for kids and now all the merchandising that goes with it. It is actually one thing in children's literature that bugs me a little, all that merchandising. Ah but that be the way the world is moving. A couple of honourable mentions to a couple of books recently bought for my niece and nephew for those with children in mind are "Grandpa Green' and 'Mr Pusskins a Love Story'

Enid Blyton is quite renown for her supposed controversial writing, whether it is true or not, who knows, so was Beatrix Potter and if I was looking hard enough I would place May Gibbs there as well. It is interesting seeing peoples kids books and how they correlate to our age groups. I think most of us over forty would have grown up with the three Authors I just mentioned. My Fav. Enid Blyton character was Mr Meddle, loved the gumnuts and as an animal boy read Beatrix Potter. So many pleasurable hours between pages

The Little Golden books always had quite interesting subjects - one in particular (can't remember the exact title) was about the stars and planets. At that time of course there wasn't the comprehensive knowledge we have today, it was more in the realm of fantasy, but always an interesting read. One of my sisters had a book called 'Pookie and the Swallows" - real kids storybook, but quite liked the storyline in it. And for a curve-ball, during my latter primary school years, I actually used to read a dictionary we had at home. Would keep me happy for hours ! Actually didn't really like the books we got for English at High School - the only one I really enjoyed (and fully read) was Day of the Triffids. Tall

Great book. Our kids love reading and audio books too. We have "The Magic Faraway Tree" on CD read by Kate Winslet. Good way to relive those old memories. Also anything by Roald Dahl ("Danny, champion of the world" is my favourite), and some Dr Seuss. Him - Posted from rhpmobile

My love of myths and legends came from reading a book of myths when I was eight..There was a shelf of books outside my year three classroom and a poem about Boadicea in my school reader....I was fortunate to be reading and encouraged to read at an early age..Give your children books, read to them everyday,xxFreya

Blinky Bill, Snugglepot & Cuddlepie and anything by Enid Blyton were my favourites. I was a prolific reader from a young age and was called the Hermit by my family as I would be away in my room reading. There was a series a friend brought some of for my eldest son that came out of WA called the Kangaroo Creek Gang. They had beaut messages about the environment and looking after our native fauna. One of the ones I loved reading to my kids was "The Neatos and the Litterbugs in the Mystery of the Missing Ticket". It go so I could recite out I read it so often. The other book I loved reading to my sons was "Just Me and my Dad" by Mercer Mayer. Growing up in an age where dads weren't expected to be involved in child-rearing I loved reading a book that promoted the relationship between a child and its father. A delightful topic Tis
