Free camping!..

October 11 2013

Anyway to the point mrs Byronfuncpl and myself have been talking on what to do next time I am home on the weekend of the 19th, it was suggested that we go free camping (naked camping) but not sure of any place secluded enough around the area? Any suggestions or people done or willing to give this ago??

If you have a 4wd I'd just head up the nearest beaten track to the middle of nowhere and pick a nice looking patch of grass! - Posted from rhpmobile

Sounds liberating indeed! I have no idea where, but would love to hear from other people too. Somewhere with a lake, lagoon, stream, waterfall would be ideal. Good luck byronfuncpl

If you have a boat and mobile camping gear then there are a few spots up the Brunz river that would accomodate a bit of "freedom". "Baileys Eddy" has a large grassy bank under a tree (on the right hand side of the river going up) that is quite nice with a great little sand spit in front for swimming. Mozzies and sand flies could be a problem though and you may have to put up with the odd boat or two driving past from time to time.   Failing that, if you got to know some people up Wilsons Creek (up over the range behind Mullum) there are some excellent spots that are totally secluded (and no sand flies). Great sub tropical rainforest environment with rocky creeks and waterfalls.   Also, a really good spot for a "free camping" week end (but this would involve a bit of travel) is right up the top of the Clarence River (above Coppenhurst in NSW). Fantastic camping for a 4WD and trailer right on the river bank in a place called "The Clarence Gorge" . Lots of little secluded individual camping spots and great swimming in fresh water. There are big waterfalls at the top end of the Gorge that you can walk to (better to take a canoe or surfski though) Have to book in with the old homestead though (as camping numbers are limited) so look it up on the web if you want to have a look. Most people go upriver at the Gorge, so if you want a bit of "freedom" I would suggest asking for a spot down the bottom end for privacy. It's getting harder to find secluded spots (particularly if you dont have a boat) but I hope these suggestions help.   Obi1
