Game of Thones - books or tv series

July 16 2017

Which is the best way to experience the whole Game of Thrones? The books or the HBO tv series? It's a bit of a problem that the tv series has overtaken the books in terms of story progression...at least from a book fan's point of view. So what's your view? ;)

I watched the first season then read all the books available at that time. The first tv season followed the book to a tee....so watching the next few seasons was kinda disappointing but intriguing to notice the differences. I have no clue what to expect today which is equally exciting and frustrating!! Ms U x - Posted from rhpmobile

The TV series is an adapted and abridged version of the books. I started the books before Game of Thrones began, so the first 4-5 seasons it was fun watching my non-book reading wife's reaction to big scenes. Since the show passed the books (and started diverging before then - ugghh on what the show did to Stannis), I just sit back and enjoy the show. And hope GRRM finishes the books before he keels over from a heart attack (Having gone through an author passing away near the end of an epic fantasy series with Robert Jordan and The Wheel of Time, I don't want another many year investment in a series left to another author to finish in an inferior fashion). When both are done it'll be the books that I'll remain as thinking as the 'real' story, despite enjoying both. - Posted from rhpmobile

I tried to read the books first, but found I couldn't follow the character names. So watched the first couple of seasons, than read all the books. Books are amazing, and thr show is totally engrossing. I did WTF a few times over the differences, but figured they must be tying up loose ends in the book that they know won't impact the developing story lines. I'm not going to watch it until I can totally binge on the whole next season - wish me luck keeping my head in the sand for months.

Have read all the books and also hope nothing happens to George before he finishes. I love the books attention to detail both in regards to storyline and chacter development. The show is different but still totally addictive. I think they have done a great job with their choice of actors for most of the characters. Will be interesting how the storyline of the show progresses now it's caught up. Bit of a mystery now. Hopefully it will still hold true to the spirit of the authors vision. Uber keen to watch tonight. - Posted from rhpmobile

But just couldn't get through it...probably just wasn't in the right frame of mind. I kept thinking I know the story, I'm just reading it now instead of watching it, and there's extra detail, but I don't really think I'm missing out. The show is that good I think it stands on it's own two feet. How good was last nights episode???
