Gay and lesbian mardi gras

February 24 2010

The parade is on this Friday night and it's usually a lot of fun seeing if I can recognize anyone I know. Hehe. I usually wear glasses to help with myopia but glasses under a motorbike helmet are uncomfortable so I rarely wear them out of the house. Today Im having lazer correction surgery to one eye. If the surgery is succesful, I'm wondering if the parade will lose it's appeal? to participate in mardi GRAS, I'm doing the nude thing on the opera house steps on march 01 for that photographer dude who "paints" landmarks with hundreds or thousands of nude bodies. That's my contribution to Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras is a gay and lesbian "out" celebration but it's not exclusive of heteros. The events are now spread over two weeks. Are you getting involved in anything?Getting in early! Happy new year! Hope you're having a wonderful night. Mum and Dad xxxx

Hey Guys   The above date is rather significant. I suggest that you do a bit of research online into the origins of the Mardi Gras and how violently the first one ended. I suspect Earl wont be so quick to make jokes then.

Yes Earl you'd make a great bikie's bitch. You can be mine. It is all cool now. The mardi Gras celebration is safe and entertaining and inclusive these days. A huge crowd thats there to enjoy and or participate, and a real hoot! Joke all you want Earl. You're not really being offensive.... insensitive yes, politically incorrect yes. ignorant? Yes.... malicious? No. Damn the Princesses, I say!! Hugs Gazza

I am no princess!! I know more about crankshafts and camshafts than I do about face creams.   I know several people that were there that day in 78 and they take it seriously.   Sorry stalky but the mardi gras is not as inclusive as you might think. The float that I was supposed to be on was turned down for not being exclusively gay. Strange but true.   Yes Earl, all is cool. Not sure about the Harley. Can we make it a Triumph?

One for the Sheriff me thinks!! Being a Lennonist I believe "all you need is love", all should be welcome especially us tri sexuals who always get over looked or discriminated against, isnt it about exeptance rather than partition now? In any ways what's your plan stalky me old china ? Any suggestions for the boys and girls who don't believe in labels?.

hehe Jeezus DominaT you must hang out with the wrong crowd... lolz.. but I can't fault your choice of Motorbike. :p   If that's the case DominaT then there are still far too many Princesses on the parade committee imho. You have to say though, that the parade and celebration has changed dramatically since the militant early 80's. There's no way I could be involved then even though I was designing gay clubs on the Oxford St strip and my lover was designing costumes all year for the parade. Last year I was invited to be on a float and I'm sure I could hitch a ride this year if I asked... I'm modelling nude for Spencer Tunick on Monday in front of the Opera House steps as part of the "New Mardi Gras" and nobody from there has asked how I identify my sexuality. That for me, is inclusive.   The fact that parents take their kids to watch it tells me that there is so much more acceptance by the community these days. Sure there are may be no Fred Nile floats shit stirring the conservatives but there's still a fairly entertaining flavour of contempt which is entertaining for the whole family!!!   HUgs Gazza

Apologies if I came across too strong Stalky. Just get a bit defensive about things that I care about.   I got invited to two floats this year but opted out after the first was rejected. I would like to teach my children that it is perfectly natural to love someone of the same sex and if I had them this weekend I would take them down to watch the fun.   The Triumph was wishful thinking. I still have my old Kawasaki in the garage.   Have a ball (or two) this weekend!   T. xx
