Geelong

October 16 2015

So I'm heading to Geelong on Monday (19th) and to VIC for the first time (never been further south than Sydney) and wondered of any Geelong locals can give me information on where are the best places are to eat (dinner only) and where are the best bars on week days. I will be in town Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday but and as my days are already full (horse stud tours & Geelong Cup Raceday) I am looking for things to do on a weeknight that might keep me entertained as travelling solo does have its disadvantages. Ideas? Taby x

The races are on. Take it as it comes. Make it what you want it to be. I'm into racy women, as opposed to the races - and preferably mares .

Try Black Bull Tapas bar in rhe cbd for a wicked dinner, a lil pricy but worth it, Down the Alley is my favorite and the cutest cafe on the waterfront, amazing food great service and good coffee..box office in the cbd has amazing coffee, same as freckleduck...I'm a chef who lives in geelong so i got the info here lol! Stay away from Mexican Graffiti at all costs!!! Have an awesome holiday! xxx mrs. - Posted from rhpmobile

Hiya Miss Taby :) I'm in Geelong this weekend. I come here most weekends to get away from the Melbourne clutter. There is always lots to do around the place, it just depends on your tastes. There's everything from simple fish and chips on the beach and watching the sun set, to fine dining on the waterfront, or pubs/clubs/brothels/etc. What sort of activities are you looking for? I may be in the area next week as well if my current work project falls through (which is likely haha).

If you would like a chaperone for your stay, I'd be happy to do so :) Strictly professional though, as I don't have the... umm... " plumbing"... to match your desired criteria :P

Ive being doing some research and it seems to be the only nice looking 'bar' open weeknights early in the week. Do you know of any other classy/modern bars (not pubs) open weeknight's (earlier in the week say mon, tue, wed)? Taby x

There is a place I've wanted to try called Ripples on the Bay. I just had a quick look and it seems to be closed Monday and Tuesday :( It looks quite nice though, so perhaps an option for you if you are still around on the Wednesday. Le Parisien is another place down near the waterfront. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's black-tie classy, but it's a nice atmosphere and the view of the bay is great on a nice night. I've not been to Edge myself, but have heard from several locals that it's a great place. I think it can get quite packed on weekends and public holidays, but I imagine it would be a nice place on weeknights too. Again, this is on the waterfront, so there are great views. Depending on what you have planned for your days, Torquay is only a short time away and offers some nice casual places to eat/drink. Sunsets in Torquay are also a must see on a slightly cloudy night :) Other options for dining include Oakdene Vinyards out towards Ocean Grove, Rheigold Cellar Restaurant in Geelong (I've heard mixed reviews, but I've been once and had a fun night), or perhaps Whytes On The Esplanade in Torquay. The Little Creatures Brewery is a nice casual place too. It may not be open for dinners during the week, but surely it would be for lunches. It often draws a fair crowd on weekends and public holidays too. As with many things, dining options are very much a personal preference. Some people swear by the Ryrie Street Maccas :P
