Press Release! April 10th 2013It is with regret that Bryan and Leesa must notify all our wonderful patrons that CI will cease trade as of 25th of June, 2013.Following is the reason why.A complaint was forwarded to Brisbane City Council about our venue not complying with the requirements for disabled access.After a visit from Council officers we were notified that a building approval is required for all work with regard to providing disabled access to the venue.Among other things, this means that a lift will have to be installed for disabled access to the front and rear mezzanines, ramps front and rear, and all doorways widened to suit and a disabled toilet. There is also some doubt about the grade from the street footpath thus requiring a level vestibule outside the front door.All this we considered possibly doable, with a large injection of funds, but then our Building Certifier pointed out that the main difficulty in gaining approval lies with the fact that the ceiling heights below the mezzanines and in the upper floors are below the minimum requirement of 2.40m. ( so therefore without a building permit we cannot operate out of this building.)A building approval is not possible without major alterations to the building, something that the landlord is not willing to support. Please do not try and convince us otherwise, we have spent time and money considering the options.Council has issued CI with an enforcement notice to gain approvals by the 25th of June or be fined $182,000.We are placed in a position where our only real option is to close our doors.It saddens us greatly to have to lose our business but there is nothing we can do as we will not operate outside the law.There is a problem with all of this and that is that we have another 3.5 years on our newly signed lease, and our landlord is not willing to release us from this.Unless a release can be negotiated we could, from the date of closing, be forced to pay rent for a building that we cannot use at all.We are planning an annual weekend gig in the “swingstock” manner and all memberships will be honoured and stay current for those parties, so please don't feel you have paid for a membership and not get the full benefit of it.There will also be functions for CI club members only and we will notify you all of dates throughredhotpie.com.auWe are saddened and upset that our business will be lost but we choose not to reopen our own venue again as we are not prepared (or able) to finance this as the 2 venues that we have lost to date have cost us way too much already.Everyone is welcome to come along and party every night we are open till June 25th. There will be no couples only parties, every party will be open to all our members and patrons as we want everyone to enjoy CI for at least one last time.All club member single guys are welcome any Saturday night till we close, all non member single guys can attend any Thursday or Friday, and all couples and single ladies are welcome every night we are open.We will hold a closing party last sat of June so keep that date free to party one last time for the end of an era...CI , 10 years and now closing.Couples international would like to thanks it's patrons and club members for many years of enjoyment and would like to thank redhotpie.com.au for all their support over the last 10 years.We ask that you please support us till we close for all the hard work we have put in over the last 10 years for the lifestyle.Lets all go out in style.Our closing date could be sooner but we will keep you all informed on our websitewww.couplesinternational.com.au and Facebook page.We have had a few tell us not to tell you all the facts and to just say we are moving on, but we are not like that and we wanted to share with you all the truth about our closing so there is no confusion or gossip in the lifestyle.We feel the need to release this statement on redhotpie to stop the gossip and untruth about why Couples International is closing.     Sad news : ) for the Brissy swinging community xxx   I am not sure how many others can say this but two generations in my family have been lucky enough to experience the CI atmosphere and enjoy many a night here.... alas it was not at the same time!   Thank you for all the fun and you will be sure to see us a few more times before June.   Leesa & Scott (big hugs from Paula too)

    I enjoy going to ci every now and then there are no egos there everyones friendly and its a good night I don't go out very often but when I do I normally go to ci for that reason a good night with good patrons and friendly staff too I cant forget that

    CI was my 1st club... seems all the clubs have been visited by council...and given things to fix..   Must be another government way to get rid of minorities   Luckily there is still Mikes Places at slacks creek and Diversions at Springwood. both great swing clubs   Good luck Lisa and Brian

    Nothing to do with council why we have to shut, if you read the statement it is because of the ceiling heights in this venue.. And as leesa said there are no other clubs in Brisbane which is sad. The others are in Logan. Bryan

    a big thank you to leesa bryan and john for all the wonderful times we have had at ci for over 3years . we have meet a lot of great people and made a lot of great friends there. we appreciate all the hard work you guys have put into the club and thanks to your fantastic staff aswell. you will all be sorely missed but in the mean time we look forward to many more great nightsall the best in your future endeavours tracie and scott xoxoxox

    So sad to read you will be closing your club down as i am sure so many like minded friends & others have enjoyed many a fun night at this venue,sadly i have not had the opprotuniy to come along to this paticular venue but have heard about it & even saw a feature on the club on a current affair show once but as i have been in WA for some months & am about to head back i have missed the chance to meet & play with some awesome fun sexy people,couples,groups. I do wish you both well for the future & will keep an eye on your page for any events you have in the future as i would love to meet you boht & your friends when i am able. Take care Bryan & Leesa have a great weekend & hope your last days at the club are filled with many happy cum filled moments for all to enjoyxoxoxo.

    Please read the statement, we cannot get a building permit......the ceilings are too low they are not 2400 high..it is the part in red. ! Leesa

    We have met some fantastic people at CI and although not regulars (bit hard when you are this far North) we always met fun people who were real. They enjoyed playing, chatting, dancing and just enjoying relaxing in a no pressure club. Good luck for the rest of your time open.

    CI was the first swinger club we went to. We had no idea about a swinger club but Leesa made us feel welcome and made it so much relaxing for us. We been then a few times and love it each time we went. It such a shame it is closing down :( Best luck in the future and hope to be up there for the last night and we can't wait

    Who the hell put in that original complaint... how stupid of them, end result is they cant attend your establishment.I dont suppose them withdrawing it would make a licking spit of difference either now the authoritys are on to it.Such a shame.. feel for you guys. XXXOOO
