Hottest 100

January 20 2017

That day is just around the corner. As someone who does still listen to the Triple J, I'm always pretty excited about the countdown, and have already entered my Top 10. So, I'm wondering if anyone else will be listening, or have picked their top tunes. What were your big picks for this year? I'll add mine in the following next post.

I totally agree, I get excited about the countdown too and am so happy when my songs pop up in the countdown! It's like betting on a winning horse Here's my top 10: Amy Shark - AdoreCatfish and the Bottlemen - 7Childish Gambino - RedboneConfidence Man - Boyfriend (Repeat)Flume - Say It (Ft. Tove Lo)George Maple - Sticks and Horse (Ft Goldlink)Illy - Papercuts (Ft Vera Blue) Maggie Rogers - Alaska Mike Snow - Genghis KhanNicole Millar - Tremble I reckon i'll get at least 2 in the top 10 (maybe Flume, Illy or Mike Snow). Very different top 10 to last year, my list then was more rock/metal which is usually more my style. My top track was Maggie Rogers. Miss Little xx

Miss Little - Now that I have reacquainted myself with the tunes, I think you nailed the list. I think they'd all make it in the Top 100. Nicole Millar - Tremble, is a superb track. And Illy's (so cute) song, reminds me of Urthboys Long Hard Hours, which is one of my favourite songs. Patch - I think Flume might just top it. He is the darling of Australian music at the moment. Love so much of his stuff.

And mine was listed in order, so I'm betting on Flume, but would love a female artist to top it. Amy's song I ... well I adore it :)

My money is on Flume for the top spot, and I wanted to vote for 'Never Be Like You' as well but it didn't make the cut from my short list to final 10. Same with K Flay, Phantogram and Nick Murphy And yes, I smashed Tremble when it first came out, such a great tune. Was sooo hard this year to narrow it down, my shortlist was 27 tracks and sooo much great Aussie music too!

Vee - yup, awesome list. Even more snaps, and others I was toying with as well. Miss Little - yes, definitely had to pick and choose with more difficulty than usual. I could have substituted a few songs along the way. I think I'll enjoy this Hottest 100 a lot

We live in the country so can't get the "groovy" stations...yes that was reflecting my age with intent lol. So I just listen to my 14yr daughters hits, actually have no choice when in the car lol. It just amazes me how these girls can know every word to every song but can't remember their school work hahahaha I love all music and just happy that rap is incorporated into actual music now and not like it was.

It's supposed to be the "youth station" But I must admit to an odd sneaky listen myself. And I will definitely be listening to the hottest 100 even though I haven't bothered voting.

LD - Hell yeah. Solid list. I'd only side-step Kayne in that one. And I love your mix of genres. Flume has so many wicked tracks, he'll be all over the countdown. I didn't even begin to start with Like a Version ones, they're always good and always make an appearance, but then I'd never been able to get it to 10. Love Ngairre. horneycouplewa - Aww - It's not an age thing, if you don't listen to Triple J or other avenues for hearing releases of new non-commercial music. So I completely understand how someone can look at these lists, or listen to the Hottest 100 with a WTF thing going on. But, you can always stream Triple J through the net :)

Yup - awesome list. Could have added all of them at some point - well even though I don't personally like Violent Soho music they tend to always do well.

Need to keep up with the times, right? By times I mean, I need to seem hip when I'm picking up those guys under 30. Wait - I didn't just admit that did I ;)

Quoting 'lovman8' It's supposed to be the "youth station" But I must admit to an odd sneaky listen myself. And I will definitely be listening to the hottest 100 even though I haven't bothered voting. I think it's largely because I've been listening to Triple J since my late teens, so it's been a formative part of my life in a way. I still like a lot of the music they play and it's where I find most of the new music I end up downloading. I'm not into most of the top 40 crap that's around these days, and listening to the commercial stations makes my ears bleed (even though there is much more overlap between so-called 'alternative' and the mainstream than there used to be). Yeah I find some of the presenters annoying these days but again not as annoying as some of the absolute twats on the commercial stations.

All my friends listened to JJJ as well. Nothing better than being at the beach or pool on Australia Day, cracking some drinks and arguing over what comes next, what should have made the list etc etc But they are mostly into commercial radio which is too much same/same in my opinion. Also shit when the bands you love tour and all of your 40 something friends have no clue and won't go to gigs with you. I also grew up with JJJ and remember the excitement of it coming to Wollongong around 1990 and FINALLY being able to listen to music that I loved on the radio. So exciting. My heart will always belong to the J's. I'll probably be listening to it when I'm 90. Also I feel it is my duty as a parent to educate my kids what good music is :) Loving everyones lists and should have put Amy Shark on mine too and Mike Snow..and Hilltop Hoods...they need a bigger list...... and Illuminate what a top song <3

I won't go into details about what I like about all those tunes because it will be like an epic novel ... but each has amazing composition and development through the song with surprising twists that just work (even though completely different genres) and some of those production levels are absolutely beautiful. And "Ra" that kids that young can be producing such dirty bass music that actually is so well composed with those amazing drops just inspires me and makes me have to get up and dance. This is the best thing about Australia Day is that it is also a celebration of the music/arts day to me. Xx Miss L.Ed.

Not long now, and I love this tease from yesterday: "The Hottest 100 of 2016 has been confirmed as the most Aussie Hottest 100 ever, with a whopping 66 songs by Australian acts featuring in tomorrow’s countdown of 100 tracks. That’s the most Aussie songs ever seen in a Hottest 100." And this: "Ahead of tomorrow’s countdown, current frontrunners Flume and Amy Shark have talked each other up before their two hit singles ‘Never Be Like You’ and ‘Adore’ go head-to-head for first place." I think it will be Flume, but I'm hoping it's Amy

Love Safia and Gretta Ray but really hope the Jezabels made the top 10....any song of theirs. Loved Synthia - have been listening all year to that album and it will always remind me of a very pivotal time in my life. Hope everyone is having a lovely day and enjoying the countdown.
