How do you like it in bed??

July 03 2013

Nope, not sex....I'm talking about sleep!!! Another one of my favourite occupations starting with 's', we spend much of our lives sleeping and good sleep is of utmost importance to our health and well-being. And like all other human occupations, we each have our specific preferences and habits when it comes to how we like to do our sleeping. Being single I sleep alone in my queen size bed...and I love it. Unlike some singles who still stick to one side, I lie right in the middle and spread out as much or as little as I like. Ok ok, I admit it, I'm not completely alone. I share the bed with a couple of stuffed animals - a seal named Sammy and a large Babe (as in the pig from the movie). Plus I always have a heap of clothes piled on the bottom of the bed that I can't fit into any wardrobe / drawers (that's really not as bad as it sounds, I don't have a great deal of wardrobe and drawer space at the moment). I'm so used to sleeping alone now that I find it very difficult to sleep with someone else in the bed, one reason that I rarely do sleepovers these days (of course there probably wouldn't be that much sleeping anyway, but it's just one reason). Also, I'm quite fussy about pillows, mine is just right for me and I hate ones that are too thin, too soft so your whole face ends up sinking into it and you can't breathe, or too hard so that your head doesn't make a dent at all. So, what are your preferences and habits when it comes to sleep?? If you're single, do you sleep in the middle or on one side of the bed? Or even horizontally across it like someone I know? And how do you go when there's someone else there? Couples - what are your sleeping arrangements and how much - if any - compromise is involved? Are you a heavy or light sleeper? What sort of pillow / mattress / sheets do you like? Whatever it is, if it's about sleeping, feel free to share!!

Actually Lucky I just had the same conversation with someone just recently about sleeping in other peoples beds.My bed is the safest place for me on this planet!! It's my comfort zone, my serenity, my haven, my temple. In my bed (queen) I snuggle down 1/2 way down the middle of bed and my feet have to touch the bottom edge of mattress. I make my bed every day - put my pillows up nice and neat and make sure there is not creases in the doona.I just can't sleep with creased sheets either or flenno sheets! always cotton for me and mainly white. I love white linen/bedding.I find it difficult when sleeping in another bed with someone as I am a talker, BIG TIME and find it really uncomfortable sometimes as it's not my bed, my pillows etc - but over all snuggles make up for that! Oh and I expect clean sheets when I visit - nothing worst going to another bed with slept in sheets. Foxy

I sleep with a feather doona all year round - even in summer. I feel safe with covering over me, unsure why just do.FOXY

Latex mattress and pillows, wherever I close my eyes in it, it's bliss. Plenty of room for 2, and more .I make it every morning as soon as I get out, and am very particular about it actually. I find it amusing people can spend $50, 60, 70, 80K + on a car they are seldom in, yet sleep in a bed I wouldn't give to my dog. You can pick up a decent one for under $10K.Good topic btw...

I for some reason still sleep on one side of the bed even on the nights when its just me without Ms Araps. I don't have to have everything just right and have no troubles in sleeping in whatever or wherever I am. Sleeping out bush a fair bit does that.

.... alone in the middle of my queen size in a large bedroom and I love the physical space as that's what I've become accustomed to. I only like to sleep in my own bed where the emphasis for me is on comfort and warmth with only cotton bedlinen. The mattress is unbelievably comfortable (so getting just 5 hours on it is equivalent to about 8 or 9 on a crap mattress). I'm a stomach sleeper. I have the company of two house cats, a male Siamese and a female Moggy. They are not mine but they've adopted me anyway and sleep at the bottom of the bed. Just outside the door sleeps, 'Nutter', my Doberman X.

I have the most gorgeous queen sized (totally fake) mahogany bed. I always sleep on "my" side, even when alone, and like Foxy I always need to be covered by a doona or I feel uncomfortable. For the last few years of my relationship my ex and I slept in different beds, and I was surprised at how well I sleep with someone in my bed. Spooning is soooo nice! I'm not great at sleeping in other people's beds though, as I tend to get very sore hips if the mattress isn't right.

I sleep right in the middle, and I have been single for so long now that with all the turning etc... of the mattress there is a ditch in the middle :P andddd it's weird (I didn't know when I got it) I sleep with a maternity pillow, one that is the whole length of the bed. And yes clean cotton sheets every week and electric blanky in winter... BLISS

I have a super comfy queen size latex bed and pillow, and I like to sleep in the middle. My bedroom is my haven, all muted colours, satin and velvet, books on the bedside table and candles ( for when a friend has a sleepover!). I have been single for about 18 months now, my ex and I had separate bedrooms for the last few years, I got the crappy spare room, so now I'm happily reclaiming the main bedroom and gorgeous bedroom suite. I don't have many friends that sleepover, I like cuddling up, but find that now I'm an extremely light sleeper, and sleep much better alone.I prefer a dark room to sleep in too, block out curtains, my girl cave!!!!

But I do have an expensive mattress and heavenly bedding. I sleep on my side and have been pleasantly surprised by how relaxed I have been by new RHP friends sleeping over. Never thought I could relax so quickly. And I'm a light sleeper. You guys rock xxx

Right on the edge, feet out the side, face down. Years of this have done nothing for my wrinkles - I have a mushed up face and I just cannot seem to stop it. I turn around and around like I'm on a rotisserie, trying NOT to sleep on tummy. Sometimes when I really can't sleep I just know in my bones that I have to sleep upside down in the bed eg head at the foot end. All this in a huge king bed! I can't share my bed with women - Mum, a girlfriend etc. If I'm overnighting with a woman we have to have separate beds, ideally separate rooms. I can share my bed with men, even if its a platonic friend staying the night. If I wake up and there's someone in my bed with me, I have to wake them up before I can get back to sleep. If they do the same to me I get super grumpy. I think I'm probably a pain in the arse in bed :)

and I spread. Some times I wake up at the other end, sometimes I wake up when I am about too fall off. I do start off on one side but, the other side calls me over and apparently I go with out with our too much thought. I also sleep naked and have my feet hanging out from under the covers. If I have some one over or go there it depends. Usually spoon all night. mmmmmm and then awake bright and early for sex than a nap before going off. I do love my bed and my bed loves me lol

I think sleep is very much underrated in today's day and age. Sleeping in this new truck, there is no middle as its a single bed cut to fit in and around the seats. So it's narrower at either end. However, if I'm in a queen bed or bigger on my own, I'm like you luck, smack, bang in the middle.....after all it's there to be enjoyed right?? - Posted from rhpmobile

I have a king single..ridiculously firm mattress that my friends all marvel over when they visit, but I'm used to it and it's good for my posture. Firm pillow too. I can only fall asleep on my side, more often my left. Always have to have the weight of the doona on me, even in the peak of summer, but at the moment I have a duck down doona which is lovely :) nothing beats the smell and feel of fresh, crisp bed linen!

At my house and in my bed! I always go to a hotel or serviced apartment for an overnight date, because my bed will only welcome someone I call boyfriend or husband:-) I sleep in a queen size bed too, and I do sleep in the middle of it, but always on my sides, comfy and good for my back. I am a light sleeper, but have no problem with someone sleeping next to me. In fact, I love having a man sleeping next to me so I can reach out for some body warmth in the middle of the night, because hotel room is always cold lol- Posted from rhpmobile

Solid chunky bed, can take a beating unlike the one that fell apart during some fun the other day. I love love love fresh linen you can smell the sunshine on when you snuggle down into the sheets. I can't sleep in a messy bed. I too enjoy the weight of a doona, but I nearly always end up with one foot out from under the covers, kinda like regulating my temperature since I seem to burn hot alot. (Shrugs, especially my feet) um sleep on my left side, preferably facing the doorway or window, i like the open air in my face. Medium pillow that I can bunch, wrap my arms around and lay on top of. If I'm not alone I like to spoon and be spooned, usually with my hand resting lightly on your hip and my breasts pushed into your back or cupping a buttock in my hand. If I'm being spooned I like it when cup my breast in one of yours. Summer it's too hot for spooning but I do like to twine my feet with yours just for the human contact. (Shrugs) let yhe snoring begin :-D I LOVE MY BED!!

with metal frame which is always good for being tied up ;-)   I tend to sleep on 'my' side even though I've been single for some time. Sleeping naked even in the middle of winter, it's really that cold I'm in Queensland after all. During winter I have my down doona but often have at least one foot out to stop over heating. I often sleep on my side, for ease of spooning. I recently had a sleep over and had no trouble adjusting to have someone beside me but found we slept face to face.....a little disconcerting to wake up looking into someone's face after being single for this long.

I've been sick the last few days so I've spent a bit of time in there. I don't like having people sleep over. I did when I began dating again but have decided not to anymore. It was too weird. Like sweet gem I travel. I always sleep curled up on my side on the left hand side of the bed, I love my feather doona and feather pillows, even in summer I have to be covered. I'm a heavy sleeper, nothing wakes me and I talk in my sleep, sometimes loudly, so I'm probably not great to sleep with though I've not had any complaints. When I sleep with someone I like to spoon and snuggle.

Actually my whole bedroom is. Muted tones and light and airy with ocean views. Queen size bed, Very comfy pillow top mattress, 1000 count white bed linen, 4 full feather pillows, 2 european pillows and 4 cushions, feather doona and a soft cashmere throw, candles, bedside lamps and subdued lighting. I sleep naked on the left side. The bed must be made every morning. I have sleep overs rarely and now don't sleep at all well with company. Actually I rarely sleep more than 5 or 6 hours so I guess this might all seem like overkill for an insomniac! - Posted from rhpmobile

We have a queen bed, we both have our own sides but we take turns chasing each other from one side of the bed to the other ... Snuggles for all !! But after sleeping together for 15 years it can be hard to fall to sleep if someone is missing.

is an old cottage, surrounded by tall shady trees that cool the house in Summer. My room is painted starry, starry, night blue. On one wall is a beautiful Medicine Buddha Tangka On the other a pastel sketch of an old Balinese woman. My bed is Queen, the linens change with the seasons. Today they are pale turquoise and grey, shimmering over my down filled doona... The cushions are turquoise and green....there are pieces of cane, painted white. A hutch a table,a wardrobe, and a darkly gleaming tallboy....such a strange name. Books and photos and pieces of deco pink and aqua glass,a solitary abode. Just my Queen and me.

My bed is my haven, queen size, clean and white (or light coloured) sheets, with all of my pillows. Tend to sleep on the middle of the bed on my side with one leg over a pillow with an embroidered pillow case so I can rub my leg on it. Hmmm... Now I want to go back to bed.

I love my bed. A double chiropractic, it is firm and comfortable. Never had a complaint about it from any one yet. I have firm latex pillows. Love nice sheets and linen. I sleep naked, have done since I was about 15. Nearly always sleep with an eye mask on as I hate being woken early by light. Also helps when on night shift. My cat, a big Tonkinese, sleeps with me most nights and wakes me up frequently. Find it hard to share my bed with anyone now as I have been on my own for so long. Hate snorers, and will take half a sleeping pill if someone stays overnight. Usually discourage it, as I like to go to sleep late, and sleep even later.
