How far are you from your roots?

April 17 2014

I'm reading A.N.Z.A.C postings and thinking to myself how, in so many ways, I do feel lucky to have been born and live in this country. Then I'm thinking how much I love that I have always lived within an hours drive from where I was born. When I go for drives, even longer ones, I pass so many places of significance to me. The roads are familiar with short cuts still existing that I used as a teen. But that's me and it seems people are on the move these days, the family home as a base becoming a thing of the past... . I wondered how far others were from their roots, home, old stamping grounds, whatever you want to call it. And how your journey has gone as you went? . Peachy

Is with Tara and kids, always no matter where we are. Tara is a long way from her people, the land of the long white cloud, though she is with us. So our home here in this land is up North, the Yankunytjatjara people, though we are in the Darug, peoples place, for now. Not many around though, maybe they are all up north visiting us. he he.

It's interesting, as rarely do I think about my early ground roots. I do get fuzzie wuzzies, when ever I hear others who talk about their stamping grounds. :) I will never EVER go back to the house nor town where I first grew up beyond the age of 12, as I choose not to. If I could I would light a match and burn the bloody house down - I would. I have such terrible, violent memories of my mum being beaten and awful physical abuse there. At 12 that is where my mum met my step-dad, the man I call my dad. The day we walked out of that house and town was the day of new beginnings, new life. So as far as I am concerned home and my roots to me, is wherever they live...it's full of love, happiness and I feel safe every time I go there. As they say.... Home is where the heart is. Foxy REST IN PEACE...Anzacs.

I've been in Australia for less than 2 years. My whole family except my younger son is a 14 hour plane trip away. My older son, parents, sister and friends all seem so far away and I miss them like crazy. Recently my boss got a phone call to say his dad had died. He had to make that 14 hour plane trip back. It's a phone call that I dread as I haven't seem my parents for a year. Having said all that I have met some amazing people here who have welcomed me into their hearts and their homes. Everyday when I cross the Sydney Harbour bridge to get to work I say thank god I had the ability to immigrate here. It is truly a great country!

I came here from Scotland six years ago. The plan was to settle here, buy a house and live the amazing lifestyle that you Australians are so lucky to have. Last year that all fell apart. But....because we have so many great friends here, we are staying in Perth and have a wonderful ,life. I, too, like looking4quality, thank God every day that I live here. I miss my family and friends in Scotland, but Australia is our home now, and we love everything about it ( and the people.) Just waking up in the morning with the sun shining is a joy.

I have been to 7 different primary schools and 2 different high schools. We left the town I was born in, and now live again to go where the work went as my father was in earthmoving. We lived in a caravan, Mum, Dad and 5 kids!! I was born in Victoria, bred in Queensland. My father died in Queensland and my mum and the kids moved back to Vic to all her family and the house they they owned. I stayed in Queensland a bit longer but ended up moving back due to wages and cost of living.
