How long is too long?

February 12 2013

Some are long. Some are long, but a bit 'thin'. Some are short. Profiles. What is just too much? Yeah, yeah, not another thread about profiles, you cry! Not another blokes attempt at "hey, check my profile... wanna fcuk?", you wail! Well, I'm prompted by some recent discussions featuring statements like "how can you know me from 100 words" and "don't they read?" to think that there is some golden ratio of profiles... a sweet spot that is easily digested *and* gives a good introduction to the person. There are some very, very long profiles out there... and some long ones which don't actually say much. Myself, I've inflicted on an unsuspecting public 300+ in the about me section and, after an update, another almost 400 in the seeking part. Who's got time to read all that waffle? So, if "I'm lost for words" doesn't cut it, at which point to you just wish they'd get to the punch line? How much is too much? (As for charges of engaging in "hey look at my profile ...let's bonk", I'm pretty sure anyone on the forums in the last couple of months already has an idea in their mind about me, and is probably from Perth anyway ;) )- Posted from rhpmobile

I like detail and someone's ability to weave a story. If it includes humour, great. If it doesn't have humour but does reveal something that seems sincere, great. A big long whinge is a total turn off, of course. Most short profiles bore me. They suggest a lack of effort, or depth, or an ego that is way too big. Some are funny but most pithy one liners are a dime a dozen - not clever, not original and not personal. So for me, long over short, thanks :)

Yours is a bit long... That said... Long is better than short, better to be inbetween though. Longer gives people more reasons to either eliminate or choose you. That can be a good thing. You get better matched responses, less of them but better quality. I'm sure with a good edit you could cut it back a bit while retaining the information that you want to convey.

When I read profiles I look for things that make me curious to sent someone some sort of contact .. I also look for use of imagination that captures me..IE: own written words. Now in saying that..I've only sent one email and one flirt the whole time I've been on here... As they say "curiousity killed the cat" or in my case curiousity killed the Fox" Foxy.- Posted from rhpmobile

It's the quality of the profile... the words that are used to convey what you're like in a few short paragraphs. If I start to scroll through & want to get to the end, then it's too long.On the other hand if it's too short & filled with template profile fillers, I don't care how gorgeous you are, not interested.

haha, we love long profiles :)We found the single guys that used to message us when we clearly aren't looking for them, stopped messaging when our profile got larger than 100 words. We figured they just got bored trying to read :P

My opinion ,i like a profile where i can get an understanding of someone. Its nice to know where you stand ,and what an eligible partner may be like before meeting them.Im all for a profile that is more than size ,shape, looks and a "do me" mentality. You can get a feel of someone who has a profile stating the essence they want in a partner. Not to long, not to short ,but just right

And I do remember telling them so once. Less is more, but long is most!

..... and I'll guess the bloody rest.Anyone can fill a page with words, but it isn't worth squat if, A: none of it's true, or B: the person reading it thinks you'd be better suited scaring ghosts out of haunted houses !

... to snatch a bargain so my profile is practically non existent! And if I was, well I would definitely be more wordy :-) - just have an aversion to the template fillers :-( KK xx

A bit of waffle is good, but I just switch off with too much to read. It makes one wonder if they can talk a leg of a chair as well.   Same goes for long-winded forum topics/essays, sorry, next!   Get to the point please with a reasonable amount of words.

Too much ??...inconceivable – to me it shows you’ve made a n effort – and if you make an effort on your profile – you will make an effort in the place that truly matters - like my friend Freya – I too am aural so words affect and move me..I love a great reading profile…its brave when you put yourself out there and a long profile means that you are interesting…you have a lot to say and give…and its gives us a glimpse of who you are and what makes you tick ....I no longer apologise for my profiel and its length and what it contains.... - funningly enough its called my profile for a reason... Buts its irrelevant….most people are visual and go for the pics…some have low attention spans..and there are profiles that cater for them………to each their own..I chop and change my profile around every so often according to mood and my current status..if a person reads my profile and contacts me.. bonus as they are exactly the kind of person that I wish to meet…but then I find people fascinating..most people on here are just here to fuck…end of story….and if people can’t be bothered reading…then don’t…the beauty is you don’t have to !! –
