She's possibly stressed her last owner gave her up and is now looking for love and willing to please. Bella sounds lovely, I miss my dogs Gauge and Chevrolet but they're with my ex and he loves them too. Now's your chance to educate and train her the way you'd like abd find out what she's capable of. Huskies are very smart.

She is a beautiful bitch and great with the kids. But never around food, not worth it. Huskies are loyal, extremely intelligent, yet can turn on a heartbeat around other animals, they have a killer instinct, so you need to be careful for some time yet, very strong dogs. Mado Tara xx

I have a pure bred Siberian Husky, he's the most beautiful dog, until he gets out. Then he looks back at me, smiles his husky smile, and dances off down the street. He'll stop and wait for me to get almost in arms reach, do his little smile again and prance away. I swear he deliberately taunts me. Thankfully it's only happened twice.

... to walk her - if I was in Sydney of course I would suggest environmental enrichment to provide mental stimulation, giving Bella something to do and something to think about when you're not there. Interactive toys (for example), that require problem solving and/or effort, or even hiding (or burying) little treasures around the back yard for her to find. Have you considered doggy day care at all? That may be an option.

I agree with wizard , love escaping and taunt you to catch them, last time I chased mine for 5 k before I caught her (she kept stopping to look at me and take of when I got close) then she wouldn't walk home had to carry her lol.Have never heard of a husky attacking a person, ours wouldnt hurt a fly , she lays on her back to anything no matter how small, she never barks only talks but the BIGGEST annoyance is when she molts , grrrrrrrrrrrrrr they have this undercoat that is so fine and it comes out in handfulls twice a year .

Yep ours gets that cheeky glint in his eyes and he is off! Interactive toys are the way to go and long walks when you get home. Pusscat xxx

Had a Malamute in Sydney and use to walk him down to Balmoral Beach in the hope that the walk and run along the beach would tire him out.........It didn't Fantastic blue eyes, but got a little hot in summer. Energy to burn Watched me one afternoon put in an irrigation system, just stood beside me all the time. Next morning the fucken whole lot was on the back deck

Bella make so many mates

... having a dog :/ No real practical advice to offer unfortunately because I've never owned a husky. I think they're beautiful animals, and from what I understand they're super-smart and very affectionate. They're also 'working' dogs, so I think the advice given by Pusscat & Kiwi is spot on... lots of toys for entertainment when you're not there and plenty of exercise :). And hopefully she's an indoor/outdoor dog... I don't agree with dogs being kept outside all the time. Can't see the point of having a pet who doesn't have full access, but that's just my opinion and each to their own :) Much love, Elle xx

When I worked for Council back in 2002, animal control had twice as many found huskys, as were register in Brisbane. i.e. each registered dog got out (and were caught) at least twice a year. so double that for unreported/not found by council. Lots of exercise. I would recommend finding a local husky sled club. In Oz they pull riders on a scooter sled. If you were in South East Qld you could try Northern Exposure racing club. Must be an equivalent in Sydney.

Best advice is to get one of those robot vacuums. The fur gets everywhere and I mean every where :)

They do love to hunt. When they are fed dried dog food, (which I think is every morning,) some get put in their bowls, the rest scattered and hidden in places in the backyard for them to 'hunt' out. I thought that was pretty unique :) I'm actually not a dog or cat person but I found the huskies intelligent and very friendly. They do enjoy long walks. As soon as she is asked, the female of the two starts howling in excitement until we're out of the house. Very cute :) - Posted from rhpmobile

For dog walkers, huskies can go for miles. A good dog walker will have other dogs with them, so Bella will have social interaction and then when she's home won't be 'as' demanding (well at least not straight away). I don't know how old Bella is, however with any dog, obedience school is a big plus, it takes a lot of stress off both the dog and the person...... Enjoy the absolute loyalty you can only get from a dog

Mines a bull mastiff bitch named bella :) best ever dog... I found her at RSPCA and they told me she was simply a very nasty dog ? But as I looked through the cage into her eyes I could see a different heart and soul :) the RSPCA said no one was able to go into her cage without poles n she was to be put down the next day :( It took me almost 2 hours to convince then to let me in! I had to sign wavers in case she turned on me? But to the amazement as I entered the cage she simply came up looked at me n latex at my feet... This big girl has never ever shown any signs other then a great heart and soul :)) I later found out the nsw fire n rescue found her in a house fire? Anyway way the rest is history and I've had her for 4 years now and her best mate is little Maltese terrior next door lol

I have a customer with one, so far it has, chased a cat under the house and got stuck, had to remove kitchen floor to get it out. It ate a block of chocolate and had its stomach pumped, it ate poisonous fish on beach so a week in vet hospital. I think the bill is getting towards 20K. I'd give it back.

Absolutely awesome dogs. It is often said that Husky doesn't consider itself a pet, but a companion. Never a truer word said. They love to dig holes, they are incredibly intelligent, they are loyal, loving and affectionate. They are great with children, but they don't tolerate outsiders to the family, so need to be gently introduced. They will defend your property & your family resolutely. They balance on things like a cat, love to get up high, they sleep in funny positions and are quite cheeky. They have the most incredible howl, and generally bark when they are supposed to. They also like to talk to you as well. Mine is laying at the backdoor loyally as a type. Just a beautiful dog.

... require strenuous exercise and can run tirelessly for miles on end, have you considered using her instinctive drive to pull to burn off excess energy? You could set up a harness and have her pull you along on a skateboard or a bicycle (at her speed or leisure). Oh and swimming is another good one too.

I have two rescue dogs (terrier mutts), ages about 10 and 9. I got them a year apart, when they were roughly a year old. Best thing I ever did. They're bloody useless as rat catchers though.

Take the time to go to obediance school. Most vet practices run them these days, or will put you in touch with one. And the school is as much about training you as it is the dog. No morerunning away laughing at yoou over its shoulder! It definatly makes it a lot more enjoyable have a dog that does what it is asked to do. I have no fences where i live, and my dog goes every where with me. I have trained her not to step of the kirb untill she is asked. occationaly she will go for a walk around the block, but the majority of the time she is under my feet. Best mate i have ever had. As far as exercise, i think they get more stimulus from human interaction, so take her with you where ever you go. Hour's of her doing your stuff with you, will do more for her than you trying to do a bit of her stuff for her. It wont be long and your mates will be round asking if they can borrow your dog to go to the markets on sunday morning.

But I do work with a lady who has owned Huskies most of her life. She tells me they are willful dogs. I can ask her anything specific on your behalf. She loves animals, volunteers at the zoo, looks after gorillas and orangutans.
