Identity theft or identity shift? Is a change as good as a holiday?

April 21 2014

As we regular forumites know, many of our regulars ebb & flow with their profile. For many reasons, and most I agree with, are valid. Some of us keep up, most don't. It matters little. Those representing themselves remain comfortable and that is all that matters. For those with successful alias's, have you been happy floating your new alias? I still chuckle at my recent faux paus apologising to Ralf with the wrong profile :-) (My non forum profile) She thought she'd pissed off more people than she knew;-) In the real world, identity theft is a scary truth that I have had severe real experiences with. Horrifying stuff! But the question I am posing is can I 'adjust' my current profile without you all feeling I'm being deceitful? The reason I ask is that all of my real life experiences with wonderful RHP souls say that my profile doesn't reflect me. Rather than starting from scratch, I'd like to realign me to me. Even my pretend name of 'Kay' can put people off. Should I start from scratch or change my current profile? What would you do?

That is, what do you feel like doing most.......change your current profile or start from the scratch? I often get my answer crystal clear when I consult with my first instinct :-) I have always kept the same username since day 1 I signed up, but have changed about 95% of my profile content as I cruise along. What my profile reads today isn't the same as what it read before. I also change it every so often to reflect the change in my needs and wants. So, to answer your very last question on "what would you do?"........I would just change my profile content to reflect who I am and what I seek at this stage of my life, if I were you :-) - Posted from rhpmobile

So being ME and yapping too much honesty on here is not a good idea due to possible ID Theft? I'm pretty much like this on FB too lol Mrs_AJ - Posted from rhpmobile

I've changed my profile and username quite a few times as I discovered more and and my needs changed. My profile has always been a true representation of who I am at the time.

I have no idea who is who on here at the best of times. My profile changes occasionally to my desires at the time, tho my name never has.. I don't see the point in that.

Hello. Hmmm the way I see the topic of change is how the profile reflects the change you make. People are not stagnant....because we have developed a complex brain and a heart that feels....our world that is constantly changing can affect us. I don't believe people can say they never change. So in saying all this Miss Kay...I say change is healthy...as for your profile, I say the same...as long it it reflects you.

People do seem to get het up over what other members are doing for them - complaints about responding, about not responding, long profiles, short profiles, sounding pompous, having poor grammar, detailed profiles, too much information in profiles, profiles that are continuously changing, profiles that never change, people being online, people being invisible, blah blah blah. Can you imagine anyone having the nerve to hold you to account for any of these so-called failings in the real world? Not a chance. Because you don't owe them anything, and the same is true here. I'd go with evolution. It's the same you, but evolved. And if that means a name change, then go for it. You'll then still be associated with your old posts in the forum I guess, for that sense of who you were/are... Just 2c worth.

I closed my account a few months ago and started from scratch. This was mainly to leave my three hundred or so posts behind me.But I think I'm still a stalker's dream. I disclose far too much.

Reading this has made me contemplate a re vamp of my profile, does it honestly reflect where I am right now and is it worded to project that.

MissKay, only YOU know that answer, no one can answer it for you or tell you what to do with your profile. However, people do like honesty. Why, are people telling you that your profile does not reflect you?? What is their reasoning behind it?? I have changed my profile so many times, but kept the same name! I own my name and I own me. Stuff changing for anyone else! I only change for me, no one else. How many X's can one have in their name before it becomes X-rated? LOL... Ms.Foxxxy

Quoting 'Kermit_The_Trogg' I'd go with evolution. It's the same you, but evolved. And if that means a name change, then go for it. You'll then still be associated with your old posts in the forum I guess, for that sense of who you were/are... I like that, a lot. I want to change my name but still be associated with my past posts. Mea - you start new profiles but your username is always similar, I want to do a complete turn around, hence me liking Kermit's idea. Foxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxy - I think I'm telling myself it's less like me than others are, but so many who meet me, men and woman alike, say they expected a far different persona. I guess like most when setting up your profile you are in a rush and can get lazy. I've been here for nearly 18 months now (where is the shocked smiley face) and I've also grown tremendously. Exactly Shy - and PFFT!!! "But I've not been around long enough for my opinion to matter much" sod off, I adore your opinion, especially if you spell something wrong

Quoting 'Meander' I closed my account a few months ago and started from scratch. This was mainly to leave my three hundred or so posts behind me. 300 Pages of posts, that is. And MissKay,yes, but any new members joining won't find my old posts. I was smart enough to change Mes to something completely different right before deleting my account. Only those who know me will recognise my old stuff.

Quoting 'ShyPrincess74' Whenever I post a typo now I'm not going to correct it or apologise for it, as much as if annoys me, just for you! :-) I don't believe you. Wow Q that is some number of profiles, but you are easy to spot despite what your name choice is at the time. Mea - and I know why you chose to do it that way. 300pages! Sheesh! That's quite a storm in a teacup. That's what I thought too Mado. Miss Kay signing off.

guys stop changing things its hard enough keeping up with who's who changing profile pics now your changing names man I'm lost I'll keep mine as is. It might not be much to look at or read, but its mine that's who I am. If there is one thing I have learnt being on RHP is that you don't change for any one be yourself.

I was MissKay for 18 months, but felt the need to realign to the progressed me. (Not that it has changed much except a name change & a nasty dig at Bob Dylan fans *losers) Hence me starting this post. Glad I didn't start with a new profile and happy with the result. Still being myself xxx
