I think it is hard to seperate hype from reality with any celebrity.Mundine has certainly always polarised public opinion.

Mundine is far less influential and far more innocuous than, say, Pauline.Mundine is a caricature of himself, he is a cartoon character. He hasn't tried to create a political party, he isn't trying to re-write social policy. Mundine has more in common with - say - David Campese or Brendan Fevola. Boneheads with big mouths who don't add much - aside from their sporting prowess at one time - but humour to the world. My 2 cents.

I actually guarded Mundine once when he was in Melbourne! Yep a whole 5'4 woman at 65kgs guarded the boxer bwahahaha! He is actually very nice and soft spoken and does a hell of a lot of charity work behind the scenes! . I guess he is like one of those Wrestlers in the ring? All show? All mouth? Guess you have to do whatever you have to do to get the crowd in! xFunlovingx

Anthony Mundine is infamous for his comment re: 9/11 and the US have not forgotten what he said. Some things you say cannot be taken back, no matter how hard you backpedal. The betting odds were against him for win last night. I am embarrassed that Julia Gillard is PM and that Tony Abbott is leader of the opposition. Where are the real leaders that we need?

We really need to give Gillard and Abbott the boot and get Tuscan Red to start campaigning.

He is an embarrassment to this country,as far as getting da crowds in well if anything his constant grand standing and sledging does the opposite, take danny green or kostya tszyu they didn't carry on half as much as mundine yet they sold out there stadiums whenever they fought, now hopefully he will retire and go about all the good charity work he does behind the scences without da big mouth

Like Mundine or Hate him, BUT, how many of us really ever heard of Daniel Geale before this? He is also a world champ before this. Without all the Mundine hype I guess Geale would still be a neville nobody world champ. So much for boxing in this country. Discussions in the lunch room at work proved this. We have some 35 people at work. Only 2 said they had heard of Geale before all of this. So I guess, Geale can thank Mundine for giving him some fame. As for his Aboriginality, and why he says and does what he does. Unless we walk in his shoes we cannot judge him. As for his mouth, trash talk and boxing go hand in hand. It gives boxing some life. If there was no Mundine in boxing, would any of us even notice the sport? I say, Mundine do as you please. May be some of us need to lighten up and have agood look at ourselves. I can guarentee you the next time boxing makes headlines in this country I bet that Mundine is involved. I have also read about how much he does for his people giving his money and time. So I guess he deserves some praise.

I'm not a boxing fan, but I'll watch the odd bout at times. The Man is a bit of a knob, and it was good to see him get his cumupance. The predictable tirade afterwards was as always entertaining, so more power to the Man I think. He at least has an opinion on any topic you like, but especially himself. Just don't take home as seriously as he takes himself and you'll get a laugh out of him

Anthony Mundine lost and would not even shake the hand of the man who beat him.. After all the crap talk he has shamed himself and presented a very poor standard of sportsmanship.... He is no role model for young people..... Mike

So I guess he deserves some praise. Geale is respected outside of Australia within the boxing world, where as Mundine is an unknown outside of Australia. That's a fact, Mundine knows how to rile up the average Aussie and get him down to the local RSL to watch his fights, however, he's never really intended to mix it on the world stage because he has a glass jaw and he knows it.

This thread that is......for the first time as far as I can see, not a catty remark, grandstanding or put down anywhere.....just people with a valued opinions. Fantastic!!! As far as the fight, Mundine starting promoting himself for his next bout before this fight even started and as soon as the bell rang to end the 12th round he just stepped it up. It’s his job. He has never fought in front of an empty house and he is in it to make money and secure a future for himself and his family. He has been a great promoter of the sport and I would argue that there hasn’t been a fighter like him. I don’t condone his comments or behaviour but he has been a very strategic and shrewd businessman. Don't confuse his self promotion and eccentric mannerisms with him being a “dumb jock”, he is far from it. He is the sole reason females are talking about boxing....post Johnny Famechon and his model looks, how many other fighters have done that?

Ali was a master of it. I remember, when they forced McEnroe to curb his tantrums, his game suffered because of his repressed emotions. When the officials lightened up, his game returned and his antics entertained the crowd. I was unaware of Mundine's charitable work. I still wish he would avoid politics though. He doesn't have the head for it and his efforts don't help anyone, they are just devisive.
