Is there a Christams break ?

We're new to the swinging game and were looking for a party to go to around the 5th of Jan in the events section. There seems to be a break from new years till the 12th of Jan....does everything shut down over this period ?

I thought most people shut shop and left Melbourne over the Christmas break... I have been told that Melbourne is deserted early January. So maybe it isn't worth their while being open.
