My son saw a bright orb when he was younger, I took a picture (cameras seemingly pick up what the eye doesn't) and there was a figure standing near him..... it was a woman dressed in a long dress. I showed it to a medium and she said it was someone in our ancestry looking out for him. Then we did a night tour of Freo prison, which was entertaining, I took a few pics, and in one a tall hooded figure showed up at the end of a corridor. I sent it to the prison and they couldnt explain it. I do believe in spirits, I have a few more personal stories, but there is an afterlife as far as Im concerned.

I lived in a haunted house with some friends. We think the spirit was male; he used to look after my friend who was having some troubles with her man. The spirit used to slam doors shut in his face when they were fighting. I never saw the ghost/spirit but often heard him walking down the hallway which had timber floors. It was a distinctive sound, a heavy and measured tread. Other girlfriends heard it as well but no male ever heard or saw the spirit.

Halloween! Yes, I believe in spirits and have encountered them. I was talking about my uncle with my aunt two years ago, when from an empty sky a white feather landed between our feet.Me: ?!Her: Oh, he does that all the time.

Sees me in places that are closed for the night, sometimes just for patrols, sometimes alarm activations. Needless to say I've had more then my fair she of encounters that have left me believing in things I used to be sceptic about.

When I was younger, My sister was trying to get in to the attic (the hatch to it was in the room where my uncle died), and we saw 'something' in the form of a glowing human shape staring at us. Her girlfriends were with her for a sleep over. They all saw it and ran down the steps screaming. Me, being just about 6 or 7, was the last one, as i was almost trampled by freaked-out girls. felt like something was chasing me down the steps. And i saw my dad after he died, plain as day, standing in the hallway looking at me.ACTUALLY, 'Halloween' was established as a religious holiday by the catholic church to try and bleed the paganism out of the british isles, where they would still practice human sacrifice during the fall and winter. Druids would go around looking for a 'treat' (young virgin to sacrifice). If you didn't come up with the goods, you got a 'trick' that night, your house surrounded by candles made out of human fat, and you were terrorized that night until someone died of fright, so the church tried to turn it in to 'all saints day'. over the centuries, it turned in to what we have today. There are many 'unknowns' in the world today. we DONT know more than what we know. The universe is a big place, and all of human knowledge would amount to a grain of sand in it.

I had expetiences when I lived in a Tibetan Buddhist Centre...Tibetans tend to believe in spirits, zombies, flesh eaters, hungry ghosts other realms...I tend to believe in recycled energy, positive and negative...I think some people are more sensitive ,their sixth sense is more highly developed ...they are the people who can often see what the rest of us can't... sometimes it's a gift but often it must be a burden...I do think there are different realms coexisting with this one and when we die that our consciousness continues but maybe not in the way we think it might xxFreya P

This afternoon I was sitting in my house with the front door open and looked up to see an attractive woman standing in my doorway. She was wearing a beautiful Halloween costume ,I thought that she had come for some treats, but no,it was a trick...she was selling Foxtel:-)

My first experience of any Halloween related was in Ireland. Some kids knocked on the door trick or treating, they were given something and off they went. I passed a sarcastic comment about them being sucked in by such a crass Americanism...they took great delight in telling me the origins of Halloween Doh...egg on my face

So I was walking from the milk bar last night. It's a short walk, 10-12 doors down. I went past a neighbour's house and saw a lady standing by the verandah. It was a cold night so I said hello and walked past briskly to the shops. On my way back, I saw her sitting down in the bench on the verandah. It was a bit dark but I can make out she's about 60-70. I said hello again and mentioned it's a bit cold to be standing out. But didn't get a response. This morning, on way to work, I met my neighbour. Told him that I hope his mother didn't catch a cold standing out in the verandah last night. He looked puzzled. He said his mother passed away years ago and no older lady lives with them. Go figure...😶

I know it's not Halloween but I didn't want to start a new thread when one will do upon searching for existing threads. 😊 It's all about recycling and sustainability. 😉

The Coven was based on a real house in New Orleans..the character played by Kathy Bates was also based on a real person.Apparently she murdered quite a few servants and s Aves in the 19th century. The house still exists today and is said to be haunted. My daughter went there a few years ago and said it was definitely an evil place..she didn't see a ghost Hugh. Hugs Q who used to be Freya :)

About modern Halloween, rapacious consumption of absurd amounts of crap.

Why? In this age of stranger danger, we encourage kids to knock on stranger's doors to ask for what at the best could be described as junk food and at the worst could be drugs or tampered with. Then there's the potential refusal where a trick aka vandalism is the punishment by children for saying no. Not my thing 🍑

an Aussie custom. Leave it back where-upon it came from. If you're really that desperate to celebrate it, go to where they do it best for a visit. Tall

The coven series of American horror story, I have not followed. I watched the one in the hospital or asylum and the hotel series. Scary as it is, I enjoyed it. Imay have to catch up when time allows. Thanks for the heads up 👍

"I grew up in a college town, and one Halloween our doorbell rang and we opened the door expecting to see a trickortreater --- but what was in front of our open door --- was another door! Like, a full-on wooden door, that had a sign that said " Please Knock." So we did, and the door swung open to reveal a bunch of college dudes dressed as really old grandmothers, curlers in their hair, ect, who proceeded to coo over our "costumes" and tell us we were "such cute trick or treaters!" One even pinched my cheek. Then they gave us candy, closed their door, picked it up and walked to the next house. --- np312 on MetaFilter ---
