Let's settle it :)

February 18 2013

Female body size and misleading descriptions are a somewhat regular topic on here. And we can't seem to agree :) So let's settle it! The latest Target add has a woman - who would be described a plus-size in modelling - in a pink bra. She's a brunette and I think she's also wearing jeans. How would you describe her body shape? I'd say ample or possibly large.

..which is odd. I don't watch much commercial telly. But as for size, I'd say ample. Desirability, I'd say totally.I recall MsDevi saying something along the lines of;8-10 - thin12-14 - average14-16 - A little extra padding18+ - large, ample (or something)I've been thinking of where athletic fits into this? I've come up with the idea that you can probably be any of these sizes and be athletic. I've seen some very large women who I'd in no way describe as over weight. I think these people are athletic?

You can be voluptuous at any size. The question is probably really how to describe her size, rather than shape. Just to clarify :) DG - and is jiggly good or bad? Hard to tell from your comment ;)

Quoting 'LittleRedEngine'I recall MsDevi saying something along the lines of;8-10 - thin12-14 - average14-16 - A little extra padding18+ - large, ample (or something)I've been thinking of where athletic fits into this? Close, though I have a problem with the words "thin" and "skinny" and prefer to say "slim". I agree with being able to be athletic in a range of sizes. Women can be fit at most sizes, whether they're a ballerina or a pro-wrestler.

I'd forgotten how good it is to flick through the lingerie section of a catalogue... *ahem* I tried to google her, 'cause I dislike my tv. There were a couple of different models. I'm not sure, but I guess I'd say ample or large. I'd prefer to say "here's my number, call me", or better, "let's blow this joint, you're with me". ....I'm the first person to celebrate curves, and buxom and ampleness, and all those things - and it's refreshing to see a big chain lead the way - but, I do wonder if the pendulum will swing too far the other way, and there won't be any 'average' or 'medium' figures out there in the press - just 'slim' (and stupidly-slim) and larger. We'll see.

I would rate her as confident ;-) Her size is immaterial as she exudes confidence and very bubbly But if you had to put a size on it hmmm Ample / plus size Beauty is in the eye of the beholder Till u go blind I think I will get glasses ;-)

I think the answer to this is to have additional fields. I agree that 'athletic' shapes come in a variety of dress sizes - my girlfriend is a size 10; I'm generally a size 10 (sometimes a 12) and would not describe myself as 'thin' But she's athletic with a six-pack and I'm not (though sometimes, I reckon I see a 2-pack if I squint in the right way ).Maybe 'clothes size' and 'something else' (am home poorly in bed and have a malfunctioning brain). The point is, surely there is more than one measure of body type!Oh, and haven't seen the advert so can't comment on the Target lady - yet!Mrs InAddition
