Mateship

June 14 2015

A question mainly for the guys: I know from women and couples that they will occasionally make long term friendships from being in this community, whether they happen to play or not. But for the (single) guys, I'm wondering on whether you have found new "mates" (ie strictly buddies, friends, pals) of the same gender? While we might be on here for certain reasons, our other interests still stand, eg sports, motoring etc. Obviously the best friends are those that accept you the way you really are, and on here, people are supposedly more free to be themselves. Any thoughts?

Like how people have a long list of "Friends" in here, you mean..... Nah.... I get it.... and with no offence to those two blokes i can consider as mates...... we're mates in the way you can be friends with people on Facebook..... due to geographical reasons. One owes me a dozen drinks.....

Only had limited opportunities for meets with guys without any sexual connotations. One guy in my friebds list we had a couple lunch type chats about stuff. He's from Darwin now and come down here occasionally and the odd text and message. I feel if he was local that we would be normal mates. So it is possible for sure. But i think that most opportunities would be from forumites who you sort of meet on here and get the common interest going first. Otherwise be a bit weird messaging another guy and asking out for a beer cold turkey....... Same for my female friends. Still it all boils down to the situation. You'd never kniw when you are out having a beer with your new mate and suddenly his hand goes on your knee and you are in the midst of a pash! probably a bad time to ask you out for a beer, OP?

Some of my RHP guy friends socialise together. Although its true, women have more social friendships on here. Its been nothing short of fantastic meeting new friends (male and female) through RHP

Men are here to find roots, they are not here to find mates because they already have those. =P

I find any other blokes for example, that I go for a Motor Bike Ride with has to tell me in their second sentence. "I'm ex SAS but they destroyed my record" or " I use to be a Bouncer" I get sick of it. But I'm a natural Dom. Mates, not for me. Anyone that I gets close to. I either collar or eat. Kidding! - Posted from rhpmobile

I have made great friends on here. But no real plutonic friendships. Ive wanted to in the past with a couple ppl on here I found interesting outside of sex - but alas no avail. Whoops i meant to say platonic.

There's a bloke here who is/was a member of another forum type of site. I've exchanged a few messages with him. He's in a vaguely similar position to me, a sexless marriage he wants to stay in, but significantly different circumstances. He has offered me advice about how to "approach" potential lovers. Recently he posted here for the first time in a while so I sent him a message of gratitude for his advice which has proved to beneficial. I don't really know the guy but he makes a lot of sense, on and off the fora, so in a way yes I do consider him to be a mate. I'd gladly buy him a beer.

no. But again i point to Adelaide's tiny size, there aren't heaps of us to begin with. I don't even think any of the other forumite blokes are from here.

To your question Country. I have not made male friends here but talked to a few through the forum and messages if something I see warrants that for me. I do not think men socialise in the same way women do so mates are less likely for men to make here. I have made good friends with a couple of women on here and visit them in Melb. from time to time but I joined here to find connections with women (be it a sexual friendship or platonic) as I tend to enjoy very open conversation and women tend to be a little better at that than men are.
