Messaging Etiquette and Managing Masses of Messages: HELP!

December 03 2013

Hi Forum-Dwellers I need a little advice about the most polite and appropriate way to deal with the ridiculous amount of messages I'm receiving here. I know single females are hot commodities and understand that it's not about me, it's just a numbers game, but I find it hard to concentrate on more than one person at a time, especially when I'm REALLY interested. I'm so overwhelmed with options that it's almost making this process impossible for me! I suddenly feel like I'm in a rush with everyone and I'm being really rude to heaps of nice folks who have taken the time to message me by completely ignoring them! Any other similarly inundated folks who've figured a way through this tangle of profiles to some success? Advice please? And men/couples, you are mostly aware of this phenomenon, right? How would you prefer to be responded to and in what time frame? How about flirts? Feeling demotivated. CT

I gave up! Friend of mine kept a spreadsheet with all details of the guys she was regularly chatting too prior to meeting them. LOL!!

Sorry, can't offer any advice as can't say I have the same problem. Can I ask, you're inundated with messages yet no profile pic? Maybe try putting a face pic up! :-)

Atleast you can reply with something you prepared earlier that will still allow you to be polite in your dismissal and yet acknowledge the individual politely....this works a treat, 'cept when they message you back and want to engage in polite conversation until it gets narky because you aren't interested and they take offense. Then the "block" feature comes in handy. Good Luck out there Miss.

Craving, Best advice I can give is be truthful! As the immensely qualified Indagine said, create some simple templates that state that the different scenarios: You are chatting to someone else and wants to see how that goes You appreciate their contact but don't wish to take things further They are too far away for anything to happen You wonder if they are intelligent enough to be able to use a computer since they are too damn stupid to read your profile before sending a message You have to be fucking kidding me! See there are lots of different templates you could create to handle any situation ! Mooka

re flirts, use the autoreply feature and say you are not interested... Re messages...ONLY answer the ones which interest YOU!... there is a template reply, simply mark all the others and say I am not seeing new people right now... That should see your messages start to dry up... Btw, this only takes 5 minutes, then you can sit down to the guys which you really fancy... have fun... S'nP

I've found that a combination of template replies for the 'no' column, coupled with a comment at the end of your profile about being inundated and only responding to potential candidates.... works. If someone doesn't accept that, they're hardly going to listen to you or pay attention to your words when they ARE in front of you. So, template 'no' reply, profile comment..... and the judicious use of the word NEXXXT!!!!! ;-) DG - Posted from rhpmobile

But sooo true. Start the campaign - March is "root a regional couple, woman or man" month, put it into you diary Get some corporate sponsorship from an airline, perhaps the one that starts with a "V" and fly the city folks to the sticks for some good old regional hospitality

I saw the template responses but I was hoping there'd be a better way, I think a nicely worded response is a good plan.

Love your response! I will add the disclaimer thingy to my profile too, this is good because then I won't feel like a douche about not replying to people! I use NEEEEEXT as a personal mantra in real life anyway, makes sense to apply here too, thank you! I feel my motivation slowly creeping back...

Root a Rural..... Perhaps it could be run similarly to the way they post teachers in rural areas. Take a few rural postings, get your points up, then you can have preference for a city posting? Or maybe everyone could have a quota. You MUST take your turn and root at least 4 rurals per year ....rather like conscription. (Ofcourse shows like farmer wants a wife may suffer!) - Posted from rhpmobile

The way I deal with my inbox overflowing is by organising a mass meet lol. Come one, come all....then I make em parade up and down in front of me, bend over touch your toes, cough for me, then I give the ole motorboat test. - Posted from rhpmobile

Can I plagiarise and adopt this template reply. It would soooooo ease a burden 😇 Quoting Mooka: "You wonder if they are intelligent enough to be able to use a computer since they are too damn stupid to read your profile before sending a message You have to be fucking kidding me!" As for Root a Rural HP I think you may have something there, get in touch with the CWA's and I reckon they'd run with it!!! Lol yes the crickets are deafening in them here parts!!

Hi OP, when I first joined again I was similarly inundated with messages. It felt as though RHP should offer office juniors to the female members in order to sort through all the messages. Here's what I ended up doing: Flirts = no response. Get too many of them, no possible way of sorting through them all. Messages = if they weren't in my defined age group, no response; if they had a template profile, no response; if the message was crude or just generally uninspiring, no response. I think it helped to weed out the crap from the cream. Some advice I could give to guys is to send a follow up message in a couple of weeks if there's someone you've sent a genuinely nice message to, hoping for a response. If she's just joined, your message may get lost in the fray so a second message after the inbox has died down a bit can be very successful.

HP, I've done that now, works well, I had a few guys reply thanking me for saying no, which eases my sense of douchebaggery. I feel a bit more in control of all of it now. Phew. Thanks for all your advice folks and spokes. ONWARD AND UPWARD! (Or should it be... Onward and Inward...?) xx CT

Yes! I have been wondering the exact same thing...I agree it is totally a numbers game (I think women are outnumbered 10:1 here?) but Craving Touch, I read your profile and I am not at all surprised you're inundated. You're articulate, passionate and you sound like great fun. I'm straight and I'd flirt with you for sure! Mooka - your templates cracked me up! Thanks for the laugh. *runs away to copy & paste* So much fun here! - Posted from rhpmobile
