Mistaken Identity

April 20 2016

This topic has been triggered by a situation whereby I was mistaken for another forumite. All good. It happens. My question to you is whether you were mistaken for somebody else? Did you use that opportunity to have fun with it or get away with murder? (Not in a literal sense). Or was the occasion quite a negative thing and has negatively affected you. How did you handle the situation? Over to you.

I haven't been mistaken for anyone exactly but I often get told I look like their sister-in-laws, or a cousin or some distant friend and a couple of times I was told that I sound exactly like other women as well. So much for being unique! 🦄

...and in different locations. More than once the person who approached me (by other people's names) became kind of indignant when I insisted I was not the person they thought. There was one occasion I was waiting at traffic lights and saw my doppelganger sitting on a fence on the corner to my right. I was completely amazed. He had sunglasses on so I can't be 100% positive, but he appeared identical to me. When I have been mistaken for someone else, I've usually suggested they're mistaken; it's just my generic head!

I occasionally have people who are convinced I'm someone else. In a shop the other day and this guy was convinced he knew me, asked if I'd lived in a town, it wasn't me. And the same a few more times in the last month. I must have a twin out there somewhere. More of a worry was a man who called out to me in a shopping centre, did the celebrity double take, absolutely convinced he knew me. I know where he knew me from, few giveaway signs, along with likely places he knew me from, not the kind of places I hang out at. That was embarrassing, it drew attention from people close. They really need to stop and think

But not in the sexual sense or way. One of my siblings and I look very alike, according to the people who got us mixed up/mistaken 😛 So, when my sibling's first born commenced school a few years ago, I needed to step in and helped her out with picking up her kid after school at one point. For three terms, her kid's teacher thought I was my sibling and always asked me to sign the legal documents that were relevant to her kid's participation in school activities and sports 😆 - Posted from rhpmobile

when I was out with the girls a couple of years ago. This gorgeous mid 30s guy was trying to join me on the dance floor while I was dancing with my 2 gfs. Our little trio were having a great time dancing and drinking and generally letting our hair down. This guy kept trying to talk to me but with the music so loud I couldn't understand a word he was saying so just smiled at him. His frustration grew and then he grabbed my hand and dragged me off the dance floor thru the crowd to the outside area. Kept saying "why are you ignoring me?" .... "didn't you enjoy yourself with me?" I kept saying "I don't know you". He fly into a fit of rage as he wouldn't accept that I didn't know him and yelling at me saying I was lying, then he eventually left the club when my friends came to my rescue. It was kinda scary and killed the mood for our girls night out .. so we ended up leaving too. Some lady definitely left a lasting impression on the guy. Or maybe he frightened her enough for her to stand him up that night. I never went back to that club. Such a pity coz it was our fave hangout.
