I feel your pain. It must be most heartbreaking to get news about family, loved ones etc in times of severe events such as the monsoon. However...... You have an emotional attachment to that event, so of course it rates higher than the cricket. But take that emotional attachment away, and yes you become concerned and have sympathy for those caught in it, but it doesn't rate near what it is right now.- Posted from rhpmobile

Quoting 'cwhereitgoes' I'm into Sky, CNN, Huffington post, Rense, Crikey, and in the older days even pravda (that has an english before it and a ru as the primary domain name FYI).How can Channel 9 tell you on Friday what will be "A Current Affair" Wednesday of the next week.Good topic, I love geopolitics news about this storm has being available for 2 days now.. we were aware through news media channels available online that this was going to be one of the biggest super storms in modern history..Its being news now for two days...Here in Aust it only just hit the news one hour ago...To me that is pathetic ..Im telling you a nuclear event could take place on the other side of the world , you would turn on the news here and all youll hear about is politics and cricket..Also, news here is very inconsistent and inaccurate and outdated most of the time.. During the earthquake the deathtoll on every news channel stated it was 200 dead.. At the same time here in aust they stated the death toll was 6 ????? You have to be kidding me lol Do they even put an effort it? International media groups must look at these guys and laugh..what a joke.

Heartfelt hopes that they, and everyone, are safe. I have little tolerance for the sensationalistic Australian media.

on the ABC radio, today there was updates to the storm at least every hour, and some live feed interviews with people over there, 3 000 000 people evacuated to the hills, 7 metre seas 320 km wind. The government was going into action a day ahead of the storm, they are worried about mud slides as well. There is a digital TV channel ABC 24 hour world news.Mado

Quoting 'Sun_Kissed'Heartfelt hopes that they, and everyone, are safe. I have little tolerance for the sensationalistic Australian media. Yeah to tell you the truth yesterday when I was skyping ..she told me a big storm was coming and she was worried..I kind of didnt worry about it too much, I thought it would miss Cebu and head further north but it bloody didnt .. its gone straight for them ... then seeing her on Skype this morning freakn out with her street starting to flood at knee level .. I started to panic..i have no idea where she is or how she is .last time I spoke to her she was herding her family into a jeepney to find an evacuation centre.. that could of taken hours since her family consist of 50 or so members..communications are totally impossible atm..guess I wont be sleeping tonight...feel so bad for them , imagine being hit by an earthquake at 7.2 loosing your home etc then a week later getting hit by a super storm..why couldn't it hit a Taliban village instead .. Anyway thanks for the support..

OMG! I am so sorry about the situation you must be in right now. I can understand, yes I would be more than pissed off. This is important to you.I know it's a different/situation however I can relate to the feelings you have.Had them when I couldn't contact my parents in the floods we have had. They live out in middle of nowhere and no way of contacting them.I knew mum would've run out of medication.I had to contact SES and get medication out to her via helicopter and to see if they were alive.I had so much fear running through me.The fear of the unknown seeing them again.I was glued to the news, any news!!HUGS and wish you well.FOXY xx

My best wishes for your wife and all of her family who may be involved in this natural disaster. Our media, dominated as they are by the same company that produced Fox News in the US and that violated the privacy of hundreds in the UK, is not interested in the real lives of Australians and their spouses.

News here in OZ is very sports oriented, we can't believe that the lead news stories are usually about who did what with the damn football, cricket, tennis or golf. I thought sport was meant to be a break from the mundane of working life but in this country work seems to be the break you need from the bloody sport crap!! Are we really so blinkered that we place so little importance on what is happening around the world. Sky news is better or CNN (Carnage Network News), we do hope all is well for your wife and her family.

Commercial news in this country is a joke. Al Jazeera provides some of the better global (commercial) coverage. - Posted from rhpmobile

goldcoastcple... Reading your post made my heart sink to my knees.. I felt the pain in your words and sympathise your terrible predicament. I did find the ABC giving regular extended reports last night which the commercial channels only seemed to pick up this morning. Agree' not good enough..I truly hope your wife and her family are safe and well. I fully understand how you feel and know you will feel this way until you know something positive.. Australia will rally when things finally subside so chin up and all the best.. My thoughts are with you...Jay...

Sorry but Australia is quite insular when itcomes to the news. I don't care for 7,9 or tens so called reports. Better to watch abc or sbs or ad sn alternate watcb bbc news on the net.- Posted from rhpmobile

seriously thanks for the comments . I really appreciate the support. Firstly, my wife and her family are fine. I spoke to them this morning , they took shelter in an evacuation center nearby. Cebu city was spared somewhat compared to leyte and bantayan island which is an island i spent alot of time in.. Cebu city suffered some damage, chuilys family house was destroyed ..Nothing they cant rebuild though, philippinos are super resilient people. very tough, so im not that worried about her house. Im just glad there all ok , there the nicest people I know her family. Even though I was pissed off about the tiny amount of coverage on the larger media channels in this country ie 7 news nine news etc ..abc did have half decent coverage, but live leak and al Jazeera are very reliable news. Personally I believe the media in Australia doesnt represent Australian people at all. Australians a very caring and charitable people that's for sure. And the Filipino people know this since a lot of their charity orgs are Australian based. Maybe, they just have bad policies in place when it comes to reporting news I don't know.. but thanks for the support , it was really nice reading the comments. Just goes to show, swingers are nice people lol

I was worried , I have never worried about her as much as last night. At first I was busy with my assessment that's overdue ,wasn't really worried so much ,but then when the storm started, and I couldn't contact her..Then I read how last years typhoon killed over a thousand people?? I just shit myself. I was really stressing. but luckily nothing bad happened and shes fine. Shes a little pain the ass sometimes, but I do love her to death lolThanks again.. @ Fourhands.. "Insular"..thats the word I was thinking off..Good choice of words there..Explains it perfectly lol
