You had one of those moments that stopped you in your tracks and left you thinking....Wow. After a few moments of the stunned mullet look or the rabbit in the headlights look....then you start thinking about it. You might like it, you might hate it, but those wow moments when you find out or have suggested to you something you hadn't considered are priceless in themselves!

I'd heard of paraphilia, but wasn't aware you could fall in love with objects. Just finished reading about American woman Erika Eiffel, who fell in love with, and "married" in 2007, the Eiffel Tower. Tall, dark and good looking, and he stays hard all night. I think I get it. (Erika is also in a relationship with the Berlin Wall. I swear I'm not making this up!)

Exactly. I watched an ABC2 doco last night and was definitely bemused. Emotional, sexual and spiritual connection to objects - cars, the Statue if Liberty, sound boards. Pretty intense. Google folks, it has all the answers :)

The whole 'objectum-sexual' thing is really interesting. A little known 'condition' (if that's the correct word), it's catergorised by (only women - so far, and only about 40 worldwide) 'falling in love' and 'committing' to an object; hence the Eiffel Tower, The Berlin Wall etc. No Opera House so far as is known. Some prominent psychiatrists with expertise in this field think that it is an extreme manifestation of the need to control the environment, and by extension, the object of affection, which suggests a history of abuse and trauma. The lady Mesmerised is talking about admitted in a documentary that she had been sexually abused by a family member as a child and abandoned to foster homes by her parents. We would never dismiss a person's sexual practices / beliefs etc, but this might be one that is the product of a fairly horrendous background and requires specialist (and compassionate) guidance to work through, either to continue to conduct the practice in psychological safety or to withdraw from it with professional help. But yep, we humans are weird and wonderful and pretty out there sometimes :)

I watch a doco on this years ago. One of the women they focused on had fallen in love with the Eiffel Tower and was in the process of arranging the wedding. The wedding shots were of her dressed like a meringue standing at the bottom of the tower ... And of course the kiss was so romantic. Wonder if they are still married?!? Bet there are heaps more people married to it now. :D Don't the Japanese have blow up dolls and pillows as girlfriends? They take them out for dinner and all. Or is that not considered an object? I am I love with my iPhone. I take it everywhere!!

Ever watched that show 'TABOO", a few years ago and it interviewed people who has this disorder.Same as that show "My strange addiction"?There are people on there addicted to so many objects; like inflatable blowup animals, hairdryers to blowup dolls! As weird as it sounds it's out there. The world sure is interesting and full of many wonderful interesting people addicted to objects.FOXY

Its usually something with an engine in it, which gives them a hard on, thankfully I have passed that stage in life, hmm maybe not the Queen Mary 2 looks attractive.By the By we are all in love with women we just have difficulty in settling for one, thats all.

Talking about engines..How is this for some light reading. :)Edward Smith, who lives with his current "girlfriend" – a white Volkswagen Beetle named Vanilla, insisted that he was not "sick" and had no desire to change his ways. Mr Smith, 57, first had sex with a car at the age of 15, and claims he has never been attracted to women or men. But his wandering eye has spread beyond cars to other vehicles. He says that his most intense sexual experience was "making love" to the helicopter from 1980s TV hit Airwolf. As well as Vanilla, he regularly spends time with his other vehicles – a 1973 Opal GT, named Cinnamon, and 1993 Ford Ranger Splash, named Ginger. Before Vanilla, he had a five-year relationship with Victoria, a 1969 VW Beetle he bought from a family of Jehovah's Witnesses. But he confesses that many of the cars he has had sex with have belonged to strangers or car showrooms. His last relationship with a woman was 12 years ago - and he could not bring himself to consummate it, although he did have sex with girls in his younger days. Mr Smith, from Washington state in the US, kept quiet about his secret fetish for years, but agreed to be interviewed as part of a channel Five documentary into “mechaphilia”. FOXY :)
