Personality types

November 21 2012

Hello folks :) I was really tempted to post a personality profiling quiz or two - you know, like the Cosmo-style ones, but guessed the psychologists and doctors among us might think me irresponsible.   Through study and work I've looked at, used and been assessed via a range of personality profiling tools. Recently I came across a new (to me, not the field) approach which has fascinated me a bit, and has led to a whole bunch of new insights into who I am and how I relate to the world and others. Actually, it's probably given me some of the biggest realisations I've had in years. It certainly helped me understand why I can be such a pain in the ass to be around, and why I confound people - often :(   What about you? Ever done Myers-Briggs, Belbin's Team Roles, or others? What did you learn about you? How did it change the way you relate to others, make decisions, live?   Ever curious!   xxx

I did this test years ago.... and I am a   ESFJ - The Caregiver   and interestingly enough I keep a copy of it on my phone...(have no idea why !!) ...for reference ???   I just did the test again before posting and still come out as a ESFJ....is it me ?, well Braveheart you know me offline..so I will let you be the judge , but yes I do believe it is me to a T and reflects strongly in the profession I chose..and the partners Ive chosen thru life..   I didnt really learn anything new about myself as a result....and no it hasnt changed the way I relate to others...or helped me make decisions or how I live.....but I found it of great interest and I must admit if I had a partner in the future (haha) well it would be a test that I would encourage him to take as I do believe it is one of the more accurate ones developed...   If you read this history of the test, that too is interesting...

Oh what type of animal are you whats your favorite color what would you do in this situation........Sorry but I think that this type of profiling is getting out of control. Is it to help employers find the right people? I will give different responses in different situations I will not always let people see the real amusing me until I feel right. I do not believe we all fall into different catagories and dont think it fair to organise people so.

I love those tests,I am an INTP in the Myers Briggs and a Plant in the Belbin.I am equally introvert and extrovert according to Belbin which makes sense. I have cultivated the extrovert side of my personality because of my work.but I am equally happy to go into retreat for a few days or even weeks. What I learnt by doing these tests was that I understood a little better as to why the people I was working with often threw up their hands in horror or said that they had a headache, as I enthused about a new idea every 5 minutes. Sooooo Brave one ,telll us do,what is vous?x R

I'm ENFP - the champion.   I did a professional development workshop on this test and it helped me to understand how to communicate with people. I love the insight its given me and often suggest it to my clients.

Can be helpful in understanding the way you personally communicate with others, but I do like tests that actually extend on that and teach you how other personality types like to communicate and how you can approach them and effectively communicate with them...

Quoting 'Freya13' Sooooo Brave one ,telll us do,what is vous?x R:) Freya. It's been a long time since I did MB, but across all of the profiles I've ever done, I come out balanced equally across all categories, usually. The most recent one I did was about introverts and extroverts, and highly sensitive people. A highly sensitive person tends to have faster, often stronger emotional reactions, have a very strong conscience, often mistaken for shy (they might also be shy). They're often but not always introverted. A highly sensitive extrovert is often mistaken as being introverted. And then there are ambiverts - basically an even balance of introvert and extrovert. I'm a highly sensitive ambivert, and now a lot more of my life makes sense :)

I read this years aago, and found it excellent:   Partially in the way it classifies the 4 main characteristics into bodily fluids, as they were originally done so by "Hippocrates" - about 400 years BC   Four temperaments is a proto-psychological interpretation of the ancient medical concept of humorism and suggests that four bodily fluids affect human personality traits and behaviors. The temperaments are sanguine (pleasure-seeking and sociable), choleric (ambitious and leader-like), melancholic (introverted and thoughtful), and phlegmatic (relaxed and quiet). The book has a neat little 40 question thingy in it.. and it works pretty good.. showing 20 weeknesses, and 20 strengths of each category..   Of course... being a 32 Choleric... I believe the traits they refer to as Choleric weeknesses, are INFACT, 20 more strengths....

I decided to post the questions afterall - I'll post the scoring and results info a bit later.   DISCLAIMER: This is not a professional, psychological assessment and shouldn't be relied on for life decisions etc etc blah blah. Both quizzes are available in the public domain, but if you want a proper assessment, see a professional :) QUIZ 1 - Introvert/Extrovert/Ambivert (answer true or false to each question, then add up the number of trues and the number of falses) 1-I prefer one-on-one conversation to group activities 2-I often prefer to express myself in writing 3-I enjoy solitude 4-I seem to care less than my peers about wealth/fame/status 5-I dislike small talk, but enjoy talking in depth about topics 6-People tell me I'm a good listener 7-I'm not a big risk-taker 8-I enjoy work that allows me to "dive in" with few interruptions 9-I like to celebrate birthdays on a small scale, with only one or two close friends or family members 10-People describe me as "soft spoken" or "mellow" 11-I prefer not to show or discuss my work with others until finished 12-I dislike conflict 13-I do my best work on my own 14-I tend to think before I speak 15-I feel drained after being out and about, even if I've enjoyed myself 16-I often let calls go through to voicemail 17-If I had to choose I'd prefer a weekend with absolutely nothing to do than one with too many things scheduled 18-I don't enjoy multi-tasking 19-I can concentrate easily 20-In classroom situations I prefer lectures (being talked to) over seminars (discussion) QUIZ 2 - Highly sensitive person (answer each question according to the way you personally feel. Coose true if it is at least somewhat true for you; choose false if it's not very true or not at all true) 1-I find myself needing to withdraw during busy days, into bed or into a darkened room or any place where I can have some privacy and relief from stimulation. 2-I am particularly sensitive to the effects of caffeine. 3-I am easily overwhelmed by things like bright lights, strong smells, coarse fabrics, or sirens close by. 4-I have a rich, complex inner life. 5-I am made uncomfortable by loud noises. 6-I am deeply moved by the arts or music. 7-My nervous system sometimes feels so frazzled that I just have to go off by myself. 8-I am conscientious. 9-I startle easily. 10-I get rattled when I have a lot to do in a short amount of time. 11-When people are uncomfortable in a physical environment I tend to know what needs to be done to make it more comfortable (like changing the lighting or the seating). 12-I am annoyed when people try to get me to do too many things at once. 13-I try hard to avoid making mistakes or forgetting things. 14-I make a point to avoid violent movies and TV shows. 15-I become unpleasantly stimulated when a lot is going on around me. 16-Being very hungry creates a strong reaction in me, disrupting my concentration or mood. 17-Changes in my life shake me up. 18-I notice and enjoy delicate or fine scents, tastes, sounds, works of art. 19-I find it unpleasant to have a lot going on at once. 20-I make it a high priority to arrange my life to avoid upsetting or overwhelming situations. 21-I am bothered by intense stimuli, like loud noises or chaotic scenes. 22-When I must compete or be observed while performing a task, I become so nervous or shaky that 23-I do much worse than I would otherwise. 24-When I was a child, my parents or teachers seemed to see me as sensitive or shy.

Very interesting results for me. . The INFJ type is believed to be very rare (less than 1 percent of the population) and has an unusual set of traits. Even though their presence can be described as very quiet, INFJ personalities usually have many strong opinions, especially when it comes to issues they consider really important in life. If an INFJ is fighting for something, this is because they believe in the idea itself, not because of some selfish reasons.. INFJ personalities are drawn toward helping those in need: they may rush to the place of a major disaster, participate in rescue efforts, do charity work, etc. INFJs see this as their duty and their purpose in life. People with this personality type firmly believe that nothing else would help the world as much as getting rid of all the tyrants (though preferably in a non-violent way). Karma and similar concepts are very attractive to INFJs..These tendencies are also strengthened by the fact that INFJ personalities have a unique combination of idealism and decisiveness. This means that their creativity and imagination can be directed toward a specific goal. Few other personality types have this trait, and this is one of the most important reasons why many INFJs are able to eventually realize their dreams and make a lasting positive impact.. INFJs are masters of written communication, with a distinctively smooth and warm language. In addition, the sensitivity of INFJs allows them to connect to others quite easily. Their easy and pleasant communication can often mislead bystanders, who might think that the INFJ is actually a very sociable person.. Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness.Martin Luther KingINFJs should be careful to avoid “overheating” as their zeal and determination can sometimes get out of hand. As Introverts (I), INFJs need to have some “alone time” every once in a while; otherwise their internal energy reserves will get depleted really quickly. If this happens, the INFJ may surprise everybody around them by withdrawing from all their activities for a while, and since other people usually see INFJs as always friendly and sociable, this can leave them both surprised and concerned.. INFJs take great care of other people’s feelings and expect others to return the favor. Unsurprisingly, people with this personality type are very sensitive and vulnerable to conflicts. Even the most rational INFJs may find it quite difficult to not take criticism personally—this is the INFJ’s Achilles’ heel. If someone with an INFJ personality cannot escape the conflict, they will do their best to deal with it head on, but this will result in a lot of stress and may also potentially lead to health problems or highly irrational behavior.

I am an INTP in Myers Briggs.....I...introversion.... They prefer to socialise with a small group of friends...N..intuition They tend to think about the big picture rather than focussing on every detail..T..thinking..they are logical and base decisions on objective information ,rather than subjective feelings..P..perceiving....they like to keep their options open and feel limited by structure and planning.......INTPs are quiet, reserved and thoughtful. They can be very independent and place great value on personal freedoms....... Some famous people that exhibit INTP characteristics are ....Albert Einstein...Charles Darwin...C.Jung....Socrates.....and from fiction Sherlock Holmes and Dumbledore:-) :-) In the Belbin test of roles in teams I am a Plant...Plants are the creative, unorthodox generators of ideas and solver of difficult problems.xx Q

Always used to give me a mix between E and I, but i retook it just then and now i appear to be INFP... and really strongly too. Like only 1's or 2's in columns other than what i INFP. I agree with the results more than i ever did before. Maybe doing it in front of people skewed my answers, while just doing it alone and for myself i think i did it more honestly and accurately. INFP, the idealist...

The last time I did the Myers-Briggs I came out as INFP, with only a slight variation in the F vs T. And I think that does reflect me pretty well. e.g. "They are flexible and accommodating, and can often see many points of view. It is important to the INFP to support other people; however, the INFP may react strongly if they feel their own values are being violated. They especially hate being steamrolled by people who insist there is one right way to do things. INFPs want an open, supportive exchange of ideas."
