Photo vault apps

June 21 2015

Just after some advice on phone vault apps for android phone. I have been looking on playstore and there is quite a few to choose from. After some real world experiences. Went to show a photo on my phone to someone the other day and on the little preview panel down the bottom of the screen I noticed the next photo was a bit "naughty".Thanks for any advice.

Audio manager is great. It's a yellow and blue symbolyou can add a password or pattern. It allows you to hide pics, videos and even messages. And if you lose your phone no one can access them. I've used it for a while now and havnt had any dramas saves having to worry if you show someone something that naughty pics don't show up. It is very discreet and secure thanks - Posted from rhpmobile

I keep a camera app specifically for the saucy images. It is set to write to a directory on the SD card. When done I remove the card. When I get a chance I can copy the contents onto my computer, erase all the images from the card and pop it back in. To stop the phone from finding images on the SD card or phone memory create a directory the starts with a period (.) such as ".myPics" the period prevents apps from searching that directory for images. At any time you can add a period to the start of a directory to hide the contents from gallery apps. All images in that directory will be hidden. To make the images visible again just remove the period from the directory name. This stops any chance of accidental embarrassment when showing family and friends the holiday snaps. As for vault apps you will have to try them out. From past experience I found them to be a waste of space and I have never been a fan of locking data behind passwords or passkeys. Its great at the time, make up a pass code. Something i wont forget, but not so obvious like my birth-date. Then 7 months later you want to have a look and there is no chance of remembering what unforgettable code you made up. Even worse the app gives you three goes and then locks you out. You give up and forever the images are locked.. An alternative is to use a Cloud storage. I use google keep which is connected to my google drive account. All content is uploaded to Google drive account as you create it. I have looked on the phone and i can not find any of that content being stored on the phone, though there may be a system directory holding it, you will have to hack the OS to get at it.

I use KeepSafe and haven't had any issues with it. It's very easy to use.

Hide it Pro. It looks like an Audio manager app, and no one would suspect it was a vault unless they have it themselves. Great if you have kids that have access to your phone (or a partner).

often the apps don't encrypt the files themselves, the application itself just won't show the files - I've had some where you had to know the password to get the files through the app, but if you looked at the filesystem hidden directories the photos were all there in the clear.

There is no way to keep images safe, the encryption methods are simple, most apps have backdoors. If you lose your phone a determined snoop will find the images. The best way to avoid people seeing images you dont want is to not have them on the device. The safest place is on the net in the cloud. There are many cloud services that allow you to store your images and other content. With a good password you should never have to worry about unwanted eyes seeing them. Make sure that the cloud provider uses encrypted protocol to access HTTPS or look for the padlock icon. Moving files on public WiFi networks over unsecured protocols allows anyone to see and get a copy of the images. I use google drive, it uses secure protocols and is vigilant to hacker attracts.
