Posssible Ban on Nudity at Tyagarah Greys Lane Beach

October 13 2017

There is a vote happen in Byron Council on the 26th October to decide whether to remove the clothing optional status for Kings Beach and Tyagarah Beach. Only found out by chance and signed a petition to help save nudity at Byron Bay. Be aware it looks like the police are now patrolling the beaches now after some alleged sexual assaults recently.

It would be a shame to see clothing optional removed from any beach. But having been there whenever we pass on our travels you can understand the concern for people's safety. There are more guys lurking in the dunes than on the beach and like meerkat they pop up and can make you feel uncomfortable. Some will follow you up and down the beach if you move to avoid them. Still we need official clothing optional beaches and in our travels so many communities are trying to have them closed.

Simply because some criminals assault people at these beaches does not mean that the council should take away from the people something as valuable as a place where people can be free to be themselves. Send me the petition I will sign it in a heartbeat - Posted from rhpmobile

there has been a call to remove the clothing optional status ? We have heard, that other clothing optional beaches , have met the same fate, due in large to the unacceptable , lewd, behaviour by some beach goers. - Posted from rhpmobile

Apparently there has been recent sexual assaults on the beach and at the tea tree lake. Although we haven't heard of and rapes, just someone grabbing someone else's arse is still sexual assault. We were talking to a guy the other day that said he went to the beach alone, went into the dunes to lay down under a tree, fell asleep and woke up to another guy trying to rub him up. Worst part is, if they close Tyagerrah, these sorts will only move to the next beach, Kings now has a reputation of being only for men looking to play with other men, pity because it is such a beautiful beach. As usual the few ruin things for the many.

While I have to take everyone's word on the dodgy behaviour that goes on there sometimes (I've never been to Byron yet), I can't help but wonder if some local conservative councillors are simply using it as an excuse to ban something that is not part of their own lifestyle. It's something they personally don't understand which in their minds means it should be feared and banned. Of course, any harassment/sexual assaults should be dealt with but it wouldn't be the first time something has been banned because of some councillors agenda. Didn't they try to stop the blues and roots festival at one time too? Wasn't there some silly reason used to try and justify stopping it? (Maybe a Byron local or festival goer can help me out with that).

There has been a lot of effort into closing Tyagarah by certain councillors. One vowing not to rest until its done. However since this national park how can they?

I also complained about the state of the road after the bitumen by the lake and was told its not Byron Shire its Nat Parks. Then no standing signs were erected. National Parks told me it wasn't them. So who? Has anyone been booked there?

As far as I can see not one of you are from the area.Tyagarah is a clothing optional beach. You will see losers in the dunes, just as you see losers in the streets on the cities,If you just want to tan naked then don't go into the dunes, and if you don't like someone near you "politely ask them to move"common curtsy isn't hard

I'm a bloke just for starters, I may be common but don't curtsy.

If you go to the nude section of the beach you will have to head to the right from the walkway. there is a sign about 100 metres along saying from this point on it is clothing optional. Hope this stops someone from copping a fine.
