*Prostate check*

June 13 2018

In line with the girls current topic of "Pap Smears" by PeachyPearl, here is the equally unpleasant male version. So guys, have you had it on your calendars for those of the recommended age of regular checks? Do you put it off? I'm well overdue but have it down for this winter for a full check and skin cancer check. I'm partial to a bit of anal action but the docs is totally different. Let's hear your thoughts. Lives are at stake and if we can prompt a few checkups, it might just save someone.

Had one a few years ago after a scare (pain accompanied by blood in the urine). The doctor had huge knuckles and I was terrified, but it turns out prostate checks are normally done by ultrasound these days - not subjective and more accurate. That was quite a relief (as was the diagnosis - nothing wrong, just a larger-than-usual crystal of uric acid scraping a path down the urethra)! I make sure to drink plenty these days. Sometimes even non-alcoholic... - Posted from rhpmobile

You had one a few years ago...... Regular checkups should be considered after 40 and definitely after 50. Perhaps being 47, you should be due. And another one when fifty? Just saying.......

Great Topic! IMO, there's not enough support for men in the community. 😕 Yes, I am doing/organising another charity bike ride this year in support for men's cancer. Last year there was over 125 bikes! This year hoping for double that. So that means more $ towards cancer research. Like last years charity ride, there were doctors/nurses checking riders out for free skin checks. Will be doing again this year too. Ms Foxy

Lost my Father to Bowel cancer when he was still reasonably young, Dr’s have said 45 is the magic age that I should start getting regular checks so I’m planning to do as he says. May be uncomfortable but sure as hell beats the pain and suffering that can be avoided by a quick test.

I was advised not to ride a bicycle or to have an ejaculation for 48 hours before my last blood test because this can lead to a false positive result. Previously after a blood test I remarked about the Doctor not needing the rubber gloves, he said maybe we should check it out anyway, turns out there was some enlargement of the prostate. So both the blood test and the DRE have their place.

Annie, I've been having prostrate tests since mid forties. PSA blood test just requires a fast beforehand as I recall and a blood sample. I'm happy to watch the blood being drawn. Some people might prefer the twang of rubber gloves ;-) - Posted from rhpmobile

I'll get around to it sometime. Put it this way, in the tropics you drink water all day every day, and the water exits me just as easily as I drink it. Plus, whenever I microwave something I shove my groin up against the microwave to cop some rays down yonder. Seems to be working so far.

Regular sex also is a good preventative. Failing that, regular wanking is a good substitute. Remember failing to get it checked in time can result in losing the ability to have sex......period. Let alone the ability to continue breathing....... To all the macho guys that feel its against their image to get checked, you could end up the opposite to that image. A friend of a friend failed to get checked and ended up with advanced stages. Treatment removed the ability to sexually function. Throw in marital problems that the scenario exacerbated, he found himself single, with a very reduced chance of finding a new partner, throw some more complications from the aggressive treatment, he had a stroke. And not too many more years left to live. Perhaps worth a doc appointment?

Quoting 'AnnieWhichway' Regular sex also is a good preventative. Failing that, regular wanking is a good substitute. Definitely all over the regular wanking - check, check and double check that one. I am sometimes early, I am sometimes late - but I never, ever fail to arrive. Not so the regular sex unfortunately. All jokes aside I am approaching 50 and it is time to go and get cameras shoved in unlikely places, blood tests and all that kind of rubbish on a regular basis. A sad but necessary part of getting older. I'm definitely not the macho type - I rather like to think that I am stylishly masculine.

Thank you for this important thread Annie. Too many guys remain far to cavalier with their health. Although I regularly have to see doctors and specialists, it's surprisingly easy to let some things slip. I remember last year, when I turned fifty, I received a bowel cancer testing kit from the government. It's actually still sitting there. Life can get in the way, to the point of death. .. As for sex and masturbation being a preventative, for prostate cancer, the most recent information I saw, (can't remember where off the top of my head, I no doubt took a screen shot as I generally do with random bits of info and scientific papers on subjects of interest), anyway, it appears there is some evidence that regular sex has a degree of benefit as a preventative, however, masturbation, far less so. The paper I read noted the next thing to do was better understand that difference. Take care all and look after your health, we only get the one chance at a life. Mr. urn. .

For those who shy the test. I started having full bloods done at 50,when I reached 55 my PSA level began to fluctuate, only moving from 2.7 up to 3.2 then down again. At 58 had an MRI and the result indicated abnormalities,so biopsy. Result, I had prostate cancer with a Gleesons score of 6. After weighting up all the options there are only 3,I had as much sex as I could ,and had a radical prostectomy. Out come is mixed,no incontinence, but erectile dysfunction. It has been a journey to deal with something that came so natural. I now can obtain a good enough erection, for penetrative sex if i have heaps of stimulation and usually resort to injections which work well in my case ,but does not make up for ,no droop any more, loss of penis size, and no ejaculate. Not complaining, just giving you an idea why a test is probably a fairly good idea.

Obviously the blood test is the easiest and least invasive , however every 5 years or so I also have a physical....maybe the Doc is a kink but he still believes a physical is good practice. So taking his advice, I thought hey why not have a prostate milking too , so its still all good down there....hehe But seriously, I have had a number of mates now that have had Prostate cancer, certainly no fun and mixed bag of results. Keep up the checks and thanks Annie for bringing this to our attention. CheersLets

Are so resistant to going to docs for prostate check which is so serious, I'm Kinda thinking that they wouldn't be too arsed to get regular sti checks? It really should be easy. 6 month blood checks for sti, every second time get a PSA check. Or do they just say " yep had my blood tests last week. All good......" Or is it bullshit?

PSA blood test, or rectal digital. When my PSA was fluctuating over the 2 year period,my GP performed 3 rectal digital examinations, and my prostate did not change in size at all. Prostate enlargement can be the result of a few different causes, but increase or fluctuation in PSA is suspect cancer.

I have had an enlarged prostate and had biopsy which showed 3% cancer. I had the operation and had it it shaved. All good but have to keep getting it checked in case the ratio of cancerous cells increase. Only negative was that the surgeon shaved off all of the original surface so now I ejaculate into bladder. Perfect contraception..

Having had colleagues recently go through Prostate scares and treatment, i will not be being shy about being checked out. While i,m probabably just under the age where i should get checked, it will be a question i ask regardless on my next checkup. Great topic. Its important to put these issues front of mind.
