Starring fifty-eight year old Fred Astaire and twenty-eight year old Audrey Hepburn ..wholesome indeed .. Depends Peony what your definition of romantic is..flowers on Valentines day birthdays etc seem to me to be formulaic or what is expected ,it's probably something like a genuine compliment without seeking anything in return ,or someone actually doing something for me..I had an amazing compliment this week that I am still pondering over..was it romantic ,hell yeah and totally unexpected..I have always been a romantic free zone so I was a little shocked Q

Romance has been a little devoid in my life and not something I'm accustomed to. But there was one moment I'll never forget. A musician gave me a private performance, plugged his electric guitar in and sang "I can't help falling in love with you". I wasn't expecting it and his voice is incredible, sung it with passion, beautiful, took my knees out from under me. That was a pretty amazing moment

Wow... Is it because you like the song too? Jazz doesn't seem to be popular in Australia so it's always great to know of someone else who loves Jazz!

I remember coming home late one night after a stressed-out colleague and I made a spur of the moment decision to leave work on time for the first time in months to watch Titanic, and I saw a huge basket of flowers waiting for me on my doorstep! :-D I stopped abruptly in my tracks because I was caught by surprise and didn't believe it was real! But there it was, a huge basket of flowers with a lovely card that said, "Just because!" :-D Sigh...

An ex bf surprised me when we were in NYC with a booking made months in advance to Vong's, Chef Jean Georges Vongerichten's Asian Fusion restaurant. He knew I love food, cooking, and dining and had planned this special treat months ahead. He didn't tell me back then why he had been working so hard with extra shifts but when I found out it was to pay for Vong's and lots of other stuff during the trip, my heart completely melted. The memories have outlasted the relationship, unfortunately. :-P

Mmmmm. I think I've told this story before. I had mentioned to a wonderful guy that I was looking for a particle book that was special to me when I was a child, but couldn't find a replacement copy of. Fast forward a month or two, and I finally got to meet him in person. He handed me the book I'd told him about, and he'd managed to track down overseas and get it shipped. My heart still flutters when I think about it. The same guy has been my audiobook, on a long trip home late one night - he read to me over the phone, to keep me company, and to make sure I got home safely. Oh, and he bought me my first ever piece of lingerie - and gave me a wonderful reason to take it off. ;-) - Posted from rhpmobile

Notting Hill was corny but the music and that charming part of London, it sucked me in big time, don't know how many times I watched that and four weddings and a funeral, Hugh Grant again, I'm a big fan, and not even my body type or anything, who woulda thunk it

Received a you tube email the other day. It was the song from the old movie classic " High Noon " with Gary Cooper. I can only just remember seeing this as a kid, but always remember the song sung by Frankie Laine. Do not forget me ' oh my darlin.. The you tube clip shows photo still's only but the song and pic's bought it all back. Left me all melloncoly...

But my ex carved our initials into a huge boulder at our favourite beach place at Pottsville. Must of taken him a few trips of driving down there to do it. Yeh he's not my forever but it was extremely romantic when he surprised me with it. Patch - hours is one of those fairy tale romance events. The thought was so personal! No money can buy an experience like that

12 long stemmed red rises delivered to me on Valentines day. I was working in a contruction camp located on the edge of the Little Sandy Dessert in the East Pilbara. God only knows how he did it. Might pay for you to spend a little time searching for movies of around that era and see what else may take your fancy. I'm sure there are plenty you could find. ... a field day today, spending quite a few hours in JB Hi-Fi! :P I discovered an entire section devoted to the "Classics" which I've sadly ignored till today. I grabbed "Funny Face" and think I shall return for "Casablanca", "Breakfast with Tiffany", etc at a later date. I'm usually a big fan of the Horror and Action genre but lately, I've gravitated more towards Romantic Comedies. I still can't enjoy a large portion of Romance because it's just too unrealistic but the more contemporary and pretty real ones like "Goodbye to All That", "How to Plan an Orgy in a Small Town", "How to be Single", "Sleeping with Other People", "I Give It A Year" and "The Five Year Engagement", etc ... I love them! :D "The Vow", "Letters to Juliet", "The Bridges of Madison County" are favoured by me too. And the all-time favourite which I try to watch every year at Christmas is "Serendipity". I think movies that are based on books by Nicholas Sparks I kinda don't enjoy as much because I find that the idealistic love portrayed is pretty unreal. Just like in "Titanic", I felt that Leonardo di Caprio and Kate Winslet aren't physically compatible and pairing them up was just didn't sit well with me and the most romantic couple in that movie was, for me, the elderly couple who hugged each other in their cabin as the waters rose around them, sealing their fates together forever in a watery grave. :`( I picked up Pride and Prejudice and Far From the Madding Crowd today as well. And JB Hi-Fi is having the awesome Buy 2 TV Series Get One Free promotion which is simply the Bees' Knees! Looks like I'll be pretty occupied for the next few weeks! Hehe!

Quoting 'Summersolstice' Maybe not romantic perse, but very special. I had this lover I met here. One day I came home from a funeral, and he was at my house. He looked at me, pulled me into his arms, and only said "I've got you." No questions, no advice, no asking what he could do to help. He took me to bed, and just held me all night. It was exactly what I needed, and he couldn't have been more perfect. ... was really really special! Guys who just want to f**k are a dime two dozens. But those who go beyond that and truly care for you... they are keepers! Glad that you had someone who watched your back when you were at your lowest. :)

ash, love your Freddo Frogs idea! So romantic and original! Too bad I don't like Freddo Frogs. :P Hmm... I think stones would do for me! I love semi-precious stones like Moonstones, Opals, Rhodochosites, Labradorites, etc. and given my age (ahem!) I'll end up with quite a collection if I get one for every year! LOL!!! I passed by a new whimsical little booth at Melbourne Central today. They had cute terrariums that were sadly way overpriced but it was a bunch of powder pink roses that made me smile. :) I think I shall turn my unused aquarium into a terrarium with moss, succulents, a Venus Fly Trap and little ferns! :D

I don't know if JB's collection goes back far, but when you next get the opportunity, try looking out for more of the 'older' classics - say, from the 20's to the 50's. There were quite a good number of movies of various genre's made during that time frame - as you have made mention, Casablanca, Tiffany's and so on are only the tip of the iceberg. If you like the old fashioned comedy style, try searching for "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". Well worth a watch IMHO. Tall

I'm going to slowly check out the Classics collection although I've got to be in a certain kinda mood to watch the classics. Thanks for the suggestions! I got a tad curious about "Cleopatra" after watching "Liz and Dick". I was quite surprised that Lindsay Lohan bore a pretty stunning resemblance to Liz Taylor... well, most angles. Have you watched "The Artist"? It's produced pretty recently and it pays homage to the B&W movies of Charlie Chaplin's era. Awesome movie!

A short, perverted reflection by Pure "No Rose can be Purer" Peony. Warning : No PG rating! I felt lovey-dovey recently after spotting a huge bunch of powder pink roses outside a florist, and I started to wonder, why roses would evoke that sentimental kinda feeling in me, and in many other ladies. I love roses that are TIGHT and have not fully bloomed. There's something VIRGINal and mysterious about rosettes. The subtly curled-at-the-edges petals are the flowers' equivalent of PUSSY LIPS. They look delicate, feminine and demure on the outside, but ooh, wait till they are fully bloomed - they throw their petals WIDE OPEN and SPREAD their glory out for all to voyeur at their delicate, mysterious stamen and pistils... the flower world equivalent of SEX ORGANS. At this stage, if you zoom in for Macro shots, you'd be taking the flower world equivalent of COCK and PUSSY shots! They attract all manner of bees, butterflies and insects who come to LICK and SUCK at their SWEET JUICE aka pollen. The insects go at it so avidly that they get the pollen ALL OVER themselves. They are very ardent lovers of the roses and can't get enough of the pollen. The insects can't help themselves for they are somewhat like NYMPHOMANIACS. These insects often indulge in ORGIES as well, flying tirelessly from flower to flower. And so... mystery solved! Roses are symbolic not only of love, but of sheer LUST and it hints of clandestine SEX. Next time you get a bouquet of roses from your lover, think about the sexual connotations - it just might not be as innocent a gesture as you think!

Clint Eastwooed acted and directed alongside Meryl Streep, great film!!! Ive seen most of Q's list and still love tuning into an old classic on Sunday's. Romantic gestures or just sentimental .....hmmmmm when my ex-husband and I had just started dating I had my (passed away) friends daughter with me one night and we were in the kitchen at his place. We girls were talking about makeup and he just reached out his hand and then tipped my chin up and brushed by cheek with his thumb and said "it's too much, you're beautiful without it, it's just too much." I could hear Nikki exhale she'd been holding her breath....lol she said it was the gentlest most romantic thing she'd ever seen. I know it's no grand gesture (as I wipe away a tear) but mmy here was a time when that moment meant so much. He's still a wonderful man even if I broke him. Sometimes it's the little things hey Summer that mean so much. Same lover below....ended it..... I left him alone and he came back. We met over a drink to sort it out. When we walked out onto the Main Street in our town we kissed, deeper than I think I've ever been kissed before. What that kiss said was way more than the discussion that preceded it.....I'm sure everyone's had a kiss like that at least once in their lives 😏 The most (what I thought) romantic thing I've ever done was fill my home full of candles for a lovers visit. All through the open plan lounge, dining, kitchen, up the stairs, hallway and bedroom. I wore lingerie and prepared a meal....the whole time in my lingerie, chatting over wine with him watching my every move....until it got the better of him. I think I've been lucky ..... Eat Prey Love and Under the Tuscan Sun are good movies to add to your list Pure Peony and Lonesome Dove if you like epic westerns. They don't make musicals like they used to....

Has anyone watched "Midnight in Paris", directed by Woody Allen with a big name cast of Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams? That's one magical movie!

... here insisted on meeting at a pub that he deemed to be very classy and which he was sure I will enjoy. Oh my gosh... that place took my breath away! It was so kewl to sit back and relax with my very first Chambord with Lemonade whilst we sat back and admired the chandeliers, the old world decor, the dozens of candles all around, people milling around in their business suits relaxing with a drink or two after work ... We discovered shared interests in lots of things, my imagination ran wild with interior designing as I got lost in thoughts of what I would do if that place were my clandestine underground shelter from a zombie apocalypse (what else?! LOL!!!), and the old world charm was simply mesmerising! Hmm... the theme for this period of my life seems to be pretty nostalgic! I recently watched "Pride and Prejudice" and "Far from the Madding Crowd" and loved them! And Q, you are so right on the mark - I do love men like Mr Darcy!
