STI's, germs, risks and probabilities.

November 09 2014

sti

As much as I am loathe to admit it, since adolescence and growth of secondary sexual characteristics, the head of my circumcised penis has touched almost every toilet bowl I have sat down on. I have been paranoid that it is inevitable one day that I will catch an STI or a flesh eating bacterial infection and ruin my sex life potential forever. Nothing has ever eventuated, thank goodness, but it does make me question my paranoias. What, in your opinion, actually does constitute a risk, or a probability with STIs etc? How does it affect your choices and behaviours?

You can't catch STI's from toilet seats. From the ABC website (health section, 2011): No you can't, according to sexual health expert Professor Basil Donovan, because even if the bacteria and viruses that can cause an STI got onto the seat, they can't survive for long after leaving the human body. As their name suggests STIs are most commonly spread through sexual activity, including intercourse, oral sex and, in the case of some diseases such as genital warts, direct skin-to-skin contact. "There's nothing very magical about STIs, they're fastidious bugs which don't like dry [conditions], heat," Donovan says. "Most organisms are quite fragile so don't last any more than a few minutes... because they dry out and die." So unless someone wipes their Chlamydia infested cock on the seat right before you walk in, you won't have to worry about catching it there.

STD's are not like pretty butterflies, you don't have to catch them all. OP be very careful when in the garden and sniff "pollen" as it's plant sperm, Therefore hay fever is a STD. ;) Apparently, There's a new STD out called "FEELINGS"....believe me, when I say you don't want to catch that shit!! We were chatting to a Dr who is head of Infectious Diseases. He mentioned that the flu virus, for example, can remain active on surfaces for hours and even days, obviously In colder conditions which is why flu is always on the increase in winter. And if one touches those surfaces one can pick up the virus - Posted from rhpmobile

PMSL at Donovanosis! If you want something to be named after you, you'd want it to be a rare orchid you discovered rather than an STD I'd imagine! Mr Hither, paranoaia is a bit like fear. Sometimes they are both good things that keep you safe. Its good to know about toilet seats, but to me, one brush with herpes would be one brush too many. Best to be sensible and play it safe when it comes to sex IMO. To answer your questions on risk and probability, I imagine there is a degree of natural resistance to infection in a healthy body's immune system, such as being susceptible to the common cold or not, but still, I would prefer to play it safe than roll the dice when it comes to the family jewels. Cheers.

Your comment offered nothing of benefit to the topci, the forum, or humanity in general. Because humour, while its claimed is important in a profile, and by its profile owner..... clearly has no place in the forums.

Resistance.... not really "resist"... but combat and defeat.... or not. We need to come into contact with the little beasties to have a chance to develop "resistance" via our immune systems natural response, and for this to occur they need to enter our body and our immune system needs to react accordingly to the invasion. Most we can defeat. Some germs... you just dont want to come into contact with. DG

Quoting 'Come_Hither'Meander, to help remember my name, visualize the finger motion.... The problem is that I keep visualizing Hitler's hand motion instead. I hope we helped you make a bit less paranoid!
