Apparently the acid in your stomach kills a lot of diseases so oral sex is not as risky to perform without a condom as sexual penetration is without a condom. But there is still risk involved. To be perfectly safe you can use condoms & dental dams for oral sex and rimming and thin surgical gloves for fingering and fisting. At the end of the day it is a calculated risk. I would never want HIV so condoms always for penetration... Except for fingers.

of mine got Herpes.. (1) but still herpes from her husband from a cold sore on his lips.. it wasn't a full on outbreak, but developed into one the next day or two.. Neither of them knew it was an issue.. (Straight couple friends) He was devastated.. as was she of course.. but.. he so because of what he had done to his wife.. So.. there are always risks.. Your body.. your choice.. just don't share SOME stuff eh :)

I guess the (OR ONE) problem is.. Let's say you are out and about.. and getting hot and bothered with a bloke at a party.. or other venue..and you let him "go the grope" but, it goes no further.. WHO is to say, he hasn't got an outbreak of Herpes, or whatever..and just gone for a piss, and not washed properly? As you say... "Everything is a calculated risk.." As is LIFE ITSELF!

That is why everyone who is sexually active but not in an exclusive relationship should get tested regardless if you have only a few partners over a year or a hundred. Cavey, it has happened to me before. Group activity with condoms but I still got a little STI. Lucky it was a matter of taking a tablet and it's all gone now.

Also with oral make sure it has been longer than 30 minutes since you have brushed your teeth.

This is a topic that always amuses us a little. People who choose to say they use protection "always for all activities". That means condoms and dental dams for oral sex (never yet seen a female whip one of those out). It also means making sure you always have sterilised fingers if you are playing in a group situation.

You can get just about all the STI's from oral, it has nothing to do with stomach acids, the first point of contact is your mouth.Interesting topic though because so many people think oral is safe so condoms are rarely used.

The rate of transmission of STIs via oral sex is much lower than for intercourse, but it is still possible of course. The risk is much greater if one or both partners have cuts, open sores etc. around the mouth area, so you should definitely avoid oral activities with that situation. Obviously the majority of people don't use protection during oral sex...I know I never have, and basically it's up to each individual to weigh the risks for themselves and decide whether they are willing to take that risk.

But condoms aren't the disgusting tasting things they were 20 years ago so really from the givers point it should happen more often. I guess the question is around ejaculation, our clinic told us it's riskier to swallow.

Meeka said.. the comment about brushing your teeth "Make sure it is OVER 30 mins.." Everyone opens SOME scratches in their mouth when they brush.. natural.. and mostly NOT SEEN.. It gives a LITTLE more protection.. if it has been a longer period since brushing..

I have regular testing for STIs, use condoms for intercourse, but perform oral without using them. I've always thought that sucking was low risk. However more and more often I seem to come across guys that will cum in your mouth without any warning (Maybe I should be able to tell? but it seems most of the time I can't). When this happens, I kinda think... Hmm... STI risk? I was playing with a couple on NYE this year and the guy asked if he could cum in my mouth... I said "No sorry"! He was welcome to cum anywhere else, or slip on a condom to finish up, however he was put off by my "no" and kinda lost his mood! At least he asked, as most don't, but I felt kinda bad and that I had let him down right at that moment! Ooopsy!! But I was thinking about there being a high STI risk, should I have? Now don't get me wrong. I actually like it when someone I know well & are really into (on more levels than just "the moment"), cums in my mouth. Actually I don't just like it, I really, REALLY love it... just not with a one off sex partner or a casual "friend", nor in a group situation! So do you think you're at a higher risk of an STI if the guy cums in your mouth? Or is oral without the happy ending, ending up in your mouth just as risky?Same with fingers in a group situation... I once saw a man stick his fingers in more holes than one, on the one woman, just to move onto the next woman with the same fingers... she hadn't seen where he'd just been shoving them, but the image has stuck with me and I'm now "finger" paranoid at parties!

We are new to this and were about to post the same question. Have heard about the recommendation to use dams but have never seen one. Mr thinks it would be no fun for him to go down on a partner via a sheet of latex. and yet oral would be such an important part of playing. Has anyone actually used a dam for?cunnilingus? Mrs would expect guys to wear condom for oral. Would most guys agree to this? - Posted from rhpmobile

What about pre-cum LemonDance?

Quoting 'Meeka100' What about pre-cum LemonDance? It isn't like I've not thought about the risks with contagious things living in pre cum too... smallish dribbly bits of pre-cum compared to a big mouth full of cum... I guess it's easy to convince oneself that the latter would contain more risk than the pre. Would spit vs swallow change the risk level I wonder? But this is a topic that makes me think. Taking all precautions for intercourse but none for oral activities. I'm a huge lover of giving (and receiving oral) so could never abstain... I guess I'll just keep up with the regular STI testing, though my Doctor is starting to think I've a fetish blood tests I think!

I would expect that anything you can catch from not using a condom you could just as easily catch from giving oral...I have tried oral using a condom and it is just terrible both for him and for me and I could never do that again.I might ask my doc next time I am in there, that would make an interesting discussion !!!

It always makes me laugh when a guy insists on a condom for intercourse but never for oral. A female may have blown a guy the previous night who had syphilis, gonorrhoea, herpes, chlamydia and anything else I may have forgotten to mention, and pass it onto another despite maybe having. A sore throat. Same the other way around, we females grow all sorts of bugs which may not necessarily irk us, but we can pass on staphylococcus, streptococcus, candida, herpes ,and again other things I haven't mentioned. There is no safe oral sex with multiple partners/encounters. As was said previously we take the risk when we do this. I have used condoms with fellatio but it tastes awful.

I am fortunate that my GP has worked in prisons and with a wide array of sex workers. He has a genuinely open mind and knows a few things. So basically his feedback to me is that to be completely safe there should be a barrier at all points of contact including with sex toys. Of course he isn't stupid enough to think most people do that. However when playing condoms for intercourse will only reduce your risk of catching an STI by about 30% if that is all the barrier you use. All STIs can be transferred from genitals to your throat and then from your throat to the next genital you put your mouth on. Not allowing the man to ejaculate in your mouth helps but there is just as much of the bug in the pre cum and in the woman's juice so that is not a guarantee. Similarly sharing toys can pass all sorts of things around UTIs as well as STI so cover em up or keep your personal toys for your use only.

...and don't forget HPV.. the human papilloma virus, which is found to be causative of not only genital warts (caused by some varieties of hpv but not all) and often, a contributing factor to cervical cancer (different varieties to those which cause the warts - but all under the HPV umbrella). This requires no exchange of bodily fluid but is passed along by skin to skin contact.. usually the mucosa but.. can be exchanged on the skin of the thigh, fingers, etc... oh... but the world if full of greebies, just waiting to take a hold.. unfortunately. Regular std checks.. and screening screening screening for the others.. not perfect but then hey.. abstinence is really your only other option.

There is no such thing as safe sex really. All you can do is get tested regularly so you don't unknowingly pass things on.

You can contract gonorrhea from giving oral. It can also be passed then from mouth/throat to penis. As mentioned, there is always a calculated risk.- Posted from rhpmobile

Very low risk of contracting anything. Even some sex workers (the very high class and expensive) don't use condoms for oral sex (at their discretion) and most do a very sneaky (discreet) inspection of the genitalia before any action takes place. I think all people should probably integrate this into their adventures -- professional, or not! I have a little little handbook that explains what to look for (rashes, broken skin), any unusual discharge from the penis (other than pre-come) lol. It even has photos! If anything looks sus workers will refuse to service the client, and recommend they go and get tested. If its good enough for a sex worker......? (I'm a former one) Short answer: No I don't use a condom for oral sex generally... (In my personal life) I check things out... If all is good, I figure it's a very small risk, and as said above, we take risks all of the time.

The book also suggests not to brush, floss, or eat for a few hours after unprotected oral sex, especially when he's come in your mouth.

We have met a few couples on here and AMM and we have said from the outset that my partner will only blow if he is wearing a condom and that is the last I have heard from them... We enjoy swapping and going to the odd party but since we desided that she would only blow with a dom it has dropped off considerably.... Doesn't bother me either way but playing safe has made us wall paper and not the center of attention. Seems to me there are plenty of men here who think its ok to get a BBBJ but I wont.... and happily will remain STI clean... but still go every couple of months to Melbourne sex clinic anyway...
