I have pretty broad tastes in music (as alluded by my entries in the 'Link the song' thread). The appeal might be a lyric, a tune, a melody, a memory, or a mood. It really is an incredibly powerful mode of communication. I've appreciated and been very interested to hear the songs brought to light in these various music related threads.

Just watched them on the weekend and love them even more now I've seen them live. The rawness of the singers voice and the music combined with his lyrics just gets me. Apparently their whole new album is about a relationship from start first meeting till the end. The vulnerability he shows in Birthdays is really moving. It's about the first time he meets his girl and the aftermath of intense attraction. Love it. - Posted from rhpmobile

I have some pretty big gaps in my music tastes, I think. I grew up small country town, listened to country music and Top 40, until I moved to the city and slipped straight into pretty hard dance music. These days I'm an Indie fan. I listen to Triple J, and Spotify - always looking for new Indie tracks. I tend to love a song intensely for a few days, a week, then seek a new hit. Currently loving: Band: Kingfisha - Electro Reggae band from Brisbane Song: Drift - Benji Lewis, Electro Pop from Melbourne. Because of the lyrics, the beat and his voice. Song means a lot for me this week. I'm drifting :)

(My point here is not the political issue, but the passionate satire). I've not purchased many albums over recent times, so am not sure whether bands are still sometimes putting away for listeners little surprises such as these?

Carrie & Lowell by Sufjan Stevens Stevens wrote this album to help him come to terms with the death of his mother who abandoned him when he was one years old, more than likely due to the her depression, schizophrenia and drug abuse She is the Carrie in the title of the album and Lowell is her second husband, Stevens's step father, the only father he ever knew The album is very stripped back compared to Stevens previous albums, being predominantly acoustic and raw The album is about death, dying with dignity, loss, grief, reconciliation and closure I've listened to this album a thousand times and more, and my favourite song is "Death with Dignity". This song was recently played in the first few moments of the opening episode of the TV show "This is Us" and also played again in the final moments of the last episode of the season, which, if you watch the show, is very fitting due to the subject content Death With Dignity Spirit of my silence I can hear you, but I'm afraid to be near you And I don't know where to begin And I don't know where to begin Somewhere in the desert there's a forest, and an acre before us But I don't know where to begin But I don't know where to begin Again I lost my strength completely, or be near me tired old mare With the wind in your hair Amethyst and flowers on the table, is it real or a fable? Quoting 'Kittyesque' I so want to date you :-) Glad you liked what i posted.... :) Your post sent me to check out Sufjan Stevens on youtube and found the Carrie & Lowell (Official Film) ......He reminded me of Simon an Garfunkel initially and some sounds reminded me of Pink Floyd not really sure about those perhaps style/ influence descriptions though.....perhaps it's best just to embrace the essence and beauty of this masterpiece....
