Skene's gland - is it equivalent to male prostate gland? ....

January 18 2015

Curious about more info on the Skene's glad as squirting is such a popular topic I thought I'd share this article with those that are interested. It also gives a good description of the fluid. (from wiseGEEK - clear answers to common questions) Skene's gland is part of the human female reproductive system and is located near the entrance of the vagina. There are two of them, one located on each side of the urethral opening. While some controversy surrounds these glands, many researchers believe they are related to the G-spot, G-spot orgasms, and female ejaculation. They are named for Alexander Skene, the physician who first described them in the 19th century. Anatomy and Relationship to the Prostate These glands are also known as lesser vestibular or paraurethral glands. They are generally considered analogous to the prostate in men, due to similarities in their structure and function, and a microscopic examination of their cells and tissues supports this connection. Researchers have found, for example, that the gland produces proteins such as prostate-specific antigen, which was previously known only to originate in the male organ. The main difference is that, while the prostate is almost always fully-formed in men, this is not the case in the female equivalent. Some women have fairly large and well-developed Skene's glands, but others have much smaller ones and still other women seem to lack them completely. It is believed that this wide variation might be why some women experience G-spot orgasms and ejaculation while others do not. Function During sexual arousal, the Skene's gland becomes swollen with blood, stimulating nerve fibers associated with it. Ongoing stimulation of the area can produce an orgasm, but the nerve fibers are different from those in the clitoris. Many women report that orgasm associated with gland stimulation feels different from clitoral orgasm. The glands are believed to be the sole source of the fluid expelled during female ejaculation. They produce varying amounts of liquid, but generally no more than around 0.5 cup (about 118 ml) at a time. It is thought that the gland produces a small amount of fluid throughout sexual arousal, and that sometimes, a larger quantity of fluid is released upon orgasm. Many women who experience this believe that they have accidentally expressed urine, and some deliberately suppress their orgasms to prevent embarrassment. The fluid the Skene's gland produces does not resemble urine at all: it's typically clear and does not have the same odor. It contains a mixture of blood plasma, proteins, and enzymes similar to that of prostate fluid. For this reason, and because of the anatomical similarities, many researchers and medical professionals have begun referring to the gland as the female prostate. Controversial Issues Historically, some researchers have questioned whether the Skene's glands actually exist, and those who did accept their existence still debate what roles they play in female arousal, orgasm, and ejaculation. Another question yet to be answered is whether it plays any part in sexual dysfunction in women. The controversy about the existence and function of the gland is similar to that which also surrounds the G-spot. Research studies have produced evidence both for and against the existence of this spot, which is said to be located inside the vagina, on the front wall. Women who report having G-spot orgasms tend to be more likely to also experience ejaculation. This suggests there might be a physical link between the G-spot and Skene's gland, but overall the body of research is considered by many medical professionals to be inconclusive. Diseases Healthy Skene's glands generally cannot be felt or seen. Sometimes, the ducts can become blocked by infection, causing pain and tenderness. If the infection does not resolve on its own, an abscess can form within the duct or the gland itself. Not all abscesses require medical attention, but severe infection might require that the abscess be drained by a professional. The most common treatment for infection is a single dose or course of antibiotics, typically the same as those used to treat urinary tract infections. Very rarely, the gland can become cancerous. The type of cancer that develops is referred to as Skene’s gland adenocarcinoma, and it is very similar to prostate cancer in men. This disease is so rare than only a small handful of cases have been documented in medical literature, but surgery is typically an effective treatment providing the disease is detected early on.

The fluid in mens prostate is certainly not urine, it is a fluid produced that protects all those little swimmers. If we don't piss while we cum, why would women?

Quoting 'madotara69' The fluid in mens prostate is certainly not urine, it is a fluid produced that protects all those little swimmers. If we don't piss while we cum, why would women? Nobody said that the piss comes from the Skene's gland. Did you even read the excerpt I posted in the other squirting thread or just immediately dismiss it because it goes against your assumptions? The amount of ejaculate that comes from the glands alone (max of half a cup as stated in the OP) simply can't account for the large amounts of fluid that some women squirt in a session (certainly not for amounts I've squirted before). And using male ejaculation as comparison falls down regardless because of the differences in amounts and consistencies of the fluids ejaculated by men and women. If you can come up with another plausible explanation for where all the extra fluid is coming from then let's hear it. But to me, before squirting = fluid in bladder, after squirting = bladder is empty, plus all the other evidence they came up with, can't be simply discounted by 'I know it's not true because men!'. I'm also rather tired of men thinking they know more about women's bodies than we women ourselves do.

I certainly won't let you stop me from learning what I can, I have spent over twenty years learning about a woman, discovering things about her and liberating women in general. What I do know is the skene's gland is capable of re hydrating itself a damn site quicker than than the bladder does. I am rather tired of some women taking that for granted, that we men can learn about women. Mado Mado Tara xx

For the benefit of those who may not have yet read it and so you don't have to go searching for it in the other thread I mentioned above, this is a summary of research that was done last year on squirting / female ejaculation, and also talks about the role of the Skene's glands (from a health student and generally curious person perspective I'm interested in this because I think the way the human body functions in general is incredibly amazing, and I like knowing the anatomy and physiology behind it. From the perspective of a woman who squirts though I don't really care where the squirting comes from, it doesn't change anything in that sense for me). "When aroused, some women may experience squirting, or a rather noticeable discharge of fluid. What it is exactly and where it comes from has been hotly debated: female ejaculation or adult bedwetting? Researchers are now saying that squirting is essentially involuntary urination. Female ejaculate is technically the small amount of milky white fluid that’s expressed when climaxing, New Scientist explains. Squirting, on the other hand, results in a much larger gush of a clear fluid, which comes from the urethra, the duct where urine is conveyed from the bladder. The findings, which combine biochemical analyses with pelvic ultrasounds, were published in the Journal of Sexual Medicineon Christmas Eve. A French team led by Samuel Salama from Hopital Privé de Parly II recruited seven healthy women—who’ve reported recurrent and massive fluid emission (enough to fill a cup) during sexual stimulation—to undergo “provoked sexual arousal.” The team conducted pelvic ultrasound scans after urination and during sexual excitation just before and after the squirting event. All of the women had empty bladders before sexual excitation, however, urine collected just before squirting showed that the bladder was filling up. Urine sampled after squirting revealed that the bladder had been emptied again, revealing the origin of the squirted liquid. The researchers also analyzed chemical concentrations in the urine samples (before arousal and after squirting) as well as the squirting sample itself. These included urea, uric acid, creatinine (a byproduct of muscle metabolism), and prostatic-specific antigen (PSA). The latter is a protein that’s produced in men’s prostate glands and in the “female prostate” called the Skene glands; PSA is found in “true” female ejaculate. Urea, uric acid, and creatinine concentrations were comparable in all of the urine and squirt samples. However, PSA, which was not detected before sexual simulation in six of the women’s urine samples, were present in urine collected after squirting and in the squirt sample in five of the women. Squirting, they found, is essentially the involuntary emission of urine during sexual activity—though there’s also a small contribution of prostatic secretions as well. Salama’s team is now working on a protocol to test whether the kidneys work faster to produce urine during sexual stimulation than at other times, New Scientist explains. And if so, why."

All the fluid that a woman squrts is a combination of what is ejaculated from the skenes gland and urine,it is secreted through the urethra, not the vagina...if it was it would only be a tiny amount one fifth of a cup..Why can't some women squirt?...because they don't have a skenes gland or it is very small...thats my take on it for what it's worth xxFreya

But what about the gusher ?? I had a lover years ago (yeh miss her) she couldn't squirt but my god did she gush everywhere ;) the sheets would be soaking wet. So I ask why do some girls gush but not squirt

Argh yes, changing those sheets and towels can be a real pain. I'm guessing she had a very large Skene's gland and the confidence to use it. I often wonder about hotels when the poor staff come across those extremely soaked beds and how they handle it. Do they change the mattress? Sneaking out feeling a little guilty LG

Does it get more prominent like the prostrate as we age? I've noticed through these threads that it seems a lot of us ladies only discover the ability as we get older. It certainly happened that way for me. As for what is it? In my humble opinion it's not wee, different taste, colour and consistency, it's more slick, a definite lubricant rather than a waste product.

Quoting 'rocknminx' Does it get more prominent like the prostrate as we age? I've noticed through these threads that it seems a lot of us ladies only discover the ability as we get older. It certainly happened that way for me. As for what is it? In my humble opinion it's not wee, different taste, colour and consistency, it's more slick, a definite lubricant rather than a waste product. When the lights go down In this little country town People set in for the evening Just jump into this bed'n spread yer legs Semen all over the ceiling Cuming on the walls Spoofing on the floors People round here turn squirting into more's. Good question, ripe and sweet silky slick lubricant perhaps from the lust, want and desire of the reproductive system Maybe with the age thing, from our perspective only, each to their own. First: It seems that as we age we spend more time in the moments and less time thinking for anything else, that euphoria we often relate too the state of mind reached during the passions when fucking. When we were younger the sex was great no doubt about it and making love was all about making kids and the life with all that. Now we are more riper dirty fuckers and spend more time edging each other, shit, my prostate goes into hyper drive and pre cum runs like a tap, same with Tara, squirting gushing, pre cumming, wetness with passion, it is all a form of squirting. Personally if in amongst all that perhaps an in-continent dribble in the throws of things is understandable, considering all, you can't speak a word sensibly either so the vioce box just sings. Second: Same as anal sex if you get a bit of colour on your dick after a douche even, in the throws of things its a pleasant accident and not worthy of bringing discouragement, accidents happen. Tara does not spray the room when squirting,(I do:)! she lets go a fine slick stream of silky cool sweet passion, once she believed it was not urine she was able to let go. That is what matters, that is why there is search for higher meaning and reason too want for it with magical passion so amazingly wonderful. Its the full body uncontrollable orgasm that follows the reaction of that pent up passion being released during squirting or what ever it is named at the time, is what is. IMHO. Food for thought: No literal science or research can take us too that place. Mado Mado Tara xx
