Social Media

July 24 2013

As someone who probably spends more time on RHP than FB I was wondering what others thought of the whole world of social media.being a long time internet user I can date my age by bulletin boards and IRC. The world of FB and Myspace (what ever happened to that? Will FB go the same way when the next big thing comes along?) made social media so much more immediate; such that it is easier more often to use this than make a phone call.To date I have kept my FB persona separate to my RHP and other adult site personas but I am sure it wouldn't take a person long to join the dots from one to the other. Is that a problem? It really is just a case of perceptions and how they impact.Twitter? I actually enjoy that and find it a great way to link to all sorts of interesting information. I don't tweet much, rather follow some very interesting people who have links into some wonderful information on all sorts of subjects.I wonder what will come next?B

I have a gut feeling you are a detective. Would I be right? But not that I would hold that against you

It would be an interesting job if it was how it was on tv (I'm enjoying Elementry), but nope not a detective.

is the reason I am not on FB or other social media sites, much to the annoyance of many of my family and friends. I always try to keep my private information private.   Technology is a wonderful thing but it can open you up to so much harm as well, if you don't take steps to protect yourself. Not to sound too negative but with personal information out there you are open to fraud of all kinds including identity theft, burgulary (when announcing to the world when you are away), invasion of privacy, stalking....the list goes on. It is more common than you think.   Out of curiosity one day I googled my daughter's name and was horrified to find out so much private information about her and even some private conversations she has had through various sites she has visited. Once posted and sent off into the land of the cloud it cannot be retrieved. Maybe I'm just paranoid! LOL   SF

I saw what an IT guru could do with social networking sites while working and it scared the living crap out of me. For some, connecting the dots is not very difficult and the amount of personal information that can be gleaned is often extensive. I got to join more dots after the IT guy joined his for us and that is why I am not on FB. That's just me though, most of my family are on FB and other social networking sites and love it.

We seem so intent on wanting to share but generally on our own terms. One of the reasons that FB cops so much flak is that that seem to continuously change the rules. But of course it isn't just social media, mobile phone location, shopper loyalty schemes (I always wonder whether I am messing with some data collector's head when I swap to Kleenex toilet paper after a year of Sorbent use?)

Has it's place. It's not difficult to join the dots, as justforfunisall says, anyone with half a brain can navigate the web and put two and two together. It disturbs me when people say "IT guru" or the like, similar to when people say ask the kid's, they know everything about computers. They only know what they know.Just a heads up for those that are interested, anything that is posted on the net is there forever, cached away in a repository to be unearthed whenever required. Either by stealth or by accident.

yes it is an interesting fact i agree Beebs with you on FB ... it staggers me to this day that people are so explicit on there very day functions and have to express this via a social media such as FB ..... i myself don't have this particularly for the reason of a few things... namely one of invasion of privacy, it is another form of Big brother watching your every move ........ but when the shit hits the fan ... you are knowing with a click of the button on your every move with the authorities ......... is totally recorded. and yes your right what is then the next big thing, good question? ... something that will make millions for some young person (and good on them) it is called progress wouldn't you say? or is it called opportunism for someone who thinks outside the preferable box.Nothing is really in secret .......... all is known really by every man and his dog as the saying goes ..... but you know what this is done by the person themselves...... by displaying their every more to all and sundry....... in the first place via FB or other social media........so what do anyone else think?

I have been playing around on here ( showing my age), since 26k modems and bulletin boards were up. I am talking a 'large' network of 500 people. What really throws me is seeing kids in a room texting each other instead of talking. The impersonal world we live in today is why there is so much violence. People do not interact with each other any more. As far as privacy, it is GONE when you get online. Just recently they found out the NSA in the states didn't just tap suspected terrorists phones, they tapped EVERYONES phones. Supposably they dumped all non threatening stuff but did they? If you decide you want to run for political office, rest assured somebody out there will dig up all your dirty laundry here on RHP and hang it out for all to see. This stuff can take over your life. Sometimes it is best to push yourself away from the computer, turn off your cell phone, and just listen to the world around you.
